More progress on the Killer Bunny. I have the front bodywork roughed in. There will be a lot of filling of gaps and sanding of cut lines but the basics are all here. I made a patch panel for the gap in the rear fenders. It's really starting to come together... I also widened the head liner to make the finished model look like it came this way. I know this is just the beginning, I need to make widened bumpers, front air dam and valence. Widening the grill will be a huge challenge. -

I now have the basic body roughed in with all the hard points established. I still need to finish up the engine bay and front bodywork as well as create a wooden buck so I can vacuum-form the new windshield. Once I have the front end finished I can make the new hood. -

The Roof is stock height, as the doors of the 1:1 were used unaltered. The altered proportions make it look chopped though. I lengthened the Rabbit / Golf engine compartment 7mm. -
I just finished cutting up three rabbits into tiny little pieces. As creepy as that sounds it was imperative that those poor little bunnies be sacrificed for this project. I'm building a replica of the 1979 Artz VW Golf bodied Porsche 928. I remember reading about this car in the December 1979 issue of Road & Track. I was always facinated with sleep cars, Q-ships as the germans would call them. The AMG Hammers, The original BMW M5, anything that hid it's light under a basket. This car was possibly the start of that. It was the antithesis of the American performance car paradigm. No bold graphics no spoiler or fender flares, just horse power and torque in a small unassuming package. in this case German madman Guenter Artz wrapped a widened Golf body around a Porsche 928. but is wasn't just widened. As you can imagine The VW Golf and the Porsche 928 are quite different in almost every dimension, so nearly every body panel needs to be modified. Artz solved this by scratch building every body panel except the doors, I on the other hand grabbed three Revell VW Rabbit kits, a vintage Revell Porsche 928, and my razor saw, and let the car-nage begin. I carefully measured every cut, being cautious not to cross too many trim pieces or body lines, as getting them lined up and straight again is very touchy. The wheelbase of both cars is actually very close in length, but unfortunately not in its position under the car. Thus the finished product takes on a the look of a 60's altered wheelbase dragster. The Revell Porsche 928 is typical of Revell at the time, it builds up well, but is lacking in detail... Since the Engine is such a focal point of this build, my plan is to make the engine compartment as detailed as possible. I carved a buck out of basswood and vacuum-formed the basic shape of the shock tower, and used Evergreed tube stock and sheet to finish it off.when the time comes I'll add the shock mount hardware.

Anybody suspect that Revell released the "High Roller" so people would by it for the wheels and tires to upgrade the Bronco?

Underneath that hideous body is a great frame and suspension that works good with AMT's 37 Chevy or other similar vintage rods.

The reason for this is that AMT kit is based on one of the first 75 Cobras that was equipped with a 260. It's actually a quite accurate representation since it also has the correct steering gear and flat steering wheel as well as the lack of fender vents.

This kit is worth it for me for the wheels alone.

All stories, even the ones we love, must eventually come to an end and when they do, it's only an opportunity for another story to begin. We will miss Harry. but he will always be remembered. -
I'm looking forward to the Eldorod as well as the Foose F100 If these are done right not only will they be cool kits themselves but likely be great parts donors for custom versions of similar vehicles. I can see me using the Eldorod chassis under things like 53-54 chevys, 50 oldsmobiles, hudsons, 50 chevys 49-50 fords etc

Sorry Bill. don't feel too bad I did work hard to make the flier as convincing as possible. I tried to keep the reissues as realistic as possible, and i thought the M*A*S*H* theme was a believable element. The VW Corrado was the hint of my duplicity, as that was confirmed years ago as being unable to be reissued. -

Thanks I'm really enjoying this one. The most challenging part for me is that nearly every part of this car is clearly visible when the model is finished. I'm used to being able to, on a closed car only do a little paint detail on the interior, or on some modern engines skip a lot of the engine detailing, but on this you will be able to see everything including the back of the dashboard.

I made a filler tube by heating and bending Evergreen™ plastic rod to shape... I added more structure to the roll cage... The pin fits into a recepticle I made in the fuel cell... It weaves though the roll cage... And meets up with the filler bung in the cowl...

As you can see in this photo I've started detailing out the fuel cell I added a photo-etched piece for the fuel filler plate. I will be scratch building the fuel filler, fuel pump, fuel filter as well as the swirl tank to add here. As you can imagine that is a lot of parts in a small area. So I wanted to assemble and test fit the roll bar so I knew what space i had to work with. I stripped the chrome from the roll bar, and cleaned it up, bit the rear uprights don't fit well to the front hoop... ...So I added some gusseting and filed it to shape. not only does this make it look better but strengthens that joint as it is a very delicate part. I also wanted to make sure that the modified cowl fits over the roll bar. Because it does I know if I keep the fuel system withing the space of the roll bar I won't have any fit problems later. I also cut away the top of the foot box so that I can detail that area after I've glued the tub together... The stock kit provides no pedal detail and very little in the way of cockpit detail at all, which on an open cockpit car can make it look very toy-like... Now i will have access to that area right up to final assembly.

Considering this is an open wheel car I felt it deserved a much better detailed front suspension. My piece is on the left. The front wheels will be steerable. The wheels will mount Tamiya style using posts and poly caps. The spindle and the brake are one piece for strength, and the pivot point for the posable steering is reinforced with metal tubing for durability. The lower A-arm has been modified to accept the pivot gear for the steering and to make more solid and accurate mount for the spindle. The interior tub has been drilled out for accuracy.
