Mooneyzs replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Hey Mark... I wanted to say thank you for swinging by here and checking out my thread and posting the pics of your 426 Hemi. I am Definitely interested in one of those engines. I will shoot you an email from my personal email addy. I was wondering why my emails didn't go thru and makes sense now. I have been going round and round on what I was going to use for an engine. Originally was going to go with the kits engine just because then was thinking of the Donovan 417 engine. and now seeing yours makes me wonder if that would be the better bet. You will see in the pics I post here in a few why I may change my mind yet once again...lol -
Rodger... Very Nice!! that car looks great. You did a great job on it.

Paul... Feel free to use any of my ideas you see. And you are more than welcome to save any of my pics for reference. I don't mind at all. I post my pics to help others as well show my progress. I look forward to seeing progress on this build. On another note I had a friend in high school that his mom has MS and I know some days are tuff. Keep your head up and build when you have time. I know personally for me building models is therapeutic and a stress reliever for me.

Hey Paul, As far as parts for the motor. here is all of the places that I have personally bought stuff from for my 1/16 Vega F/C build: Charlie at Pro Tech... has the best braided wire in the business I have seen to date. he is also getting some more parts in for 1/16th scale stuff. I recently received some throttle linkages and rod ends. He is also going to be having some cast seat belt hardware coming out in the near future. RB Motion (Robert)... Is who I get all of my turned aluminum A/N Fittings from, I also got my rod end links, as well as valve stems, spark plugs and spark plug/distributor cap boots. Micro Nitro (Jim)... has beautiful turned aluminum rims and they are very nice quality too. Scale Hardware (Bob)... They have various sizes of threaded bolts, threaded nuts, simulated bolts, rivets and other types of hardware. Very nice product. Machined Aluminum Specialties (Terry)... Terry has some various turned aluminum and photo-etch parts for 1/16th scale as well. I have some turned aluminum pulley's from him. he also has a photoetch engine detailing set. Flashpoint Motor Sports (Terry)... They have some great resin parts (engines and various engine part) and bodies as well as different size rear tires and antoher style of front tires. they are made of rubber and are great parts. Competition Resins (Rodger)... They also have great resin parts and bodies. I have a Donovan 417 engine coming from them that I will be using for my Vega F/C. Replica's & Miniatures (Norm)... I have gotten some seat belt hardware from them. but they have a bunch of and I mean a bunch of resin parts. Mostly 1/24 / 1/25 stuff. here is a pic of the seat belt hardware If there is anything that you'd like to see just let me know and I would be willing to take pics of these parts to show you. Hopefully I am not forgetting any companies that I have bought part from. also feel free to just ask if you have any questions on anything. one last pic to show some of the various items that I have:

Well not much of an update other than showing a couple of parts that I have received from Charlie at Pro Tech. He's got some great new parts in 1/16th scale. I got some throttle linkages and some rod end links. On another note I had Rodger from Competition Resin's get ahold of me and He is sending me out a Donovan 417 Engine that I have been itching to get for this build. He was redoing some parts and recasted them and has them back in stock for any of you that have been looking to order one for quite some time now. So I should have it at the beginning of next week. Here is a picture of the couple items that I received from Charlie: -
Brad that new belt material looks so much better. I had also gone out and picked up a roll of the same stuff since the other stuff I picked up wasn't right. I also picked up a roll of some 3M brand too just because the webbing looked a little bigger, possibly to use for 1/16th scale. I can't wait to see the belts all done. Its looking great man!!

Rom... Thanks Buddy... I have gotta keep on pace with your build... Jeff... Thanks man. I am glad you are enjoying all of the pics. It has been a treat for myself showing it step by step and sharing with everyone. I also wanted to let you know I was going thru some pics last night from some car shows and ran across a 69 chevelle pro street/ pro Mod... not sure which but it reminded me a little of your chevelle. I will have to scan it and share it in your thread. probably won't be able to get to it til I come home from work. -

John... this is just Beautiful. the craftmanship on this is killer. You always do great work. I can't wait to see some of these in person. I have to ask about the front wire wheels. did you scratch build them yourself or are they a photo-etch set? I love the paint on it, it is just gorgeous. Keep up the great work buddy!! -

Hey Bob... Not a problem on showing you the difference in the tires..... here are a few pics for ya So I have 2 different 1/16th scale tires it looks like along with the tire from Flash Point Motorsports. left (1/16th scale tire from Don Produhomme's Wynn's Winder Front Engine Dragster), Center (is Flash Point Motorsports 1/16th scale Funny car tire part no FPM116FCS), Right ( tire from the 1/16th scale Army Vega Funny car/Dragster double kit) View to see the differences in the width of the tires in same order as above: Here is what the kit will look like with the body and the wheels tucked underneath it: Here is and up-close view of the rear end and stock rear break hub (for mock up purposes only): Here is the tire with the rim, as you can see the rim isn't quite wide enough for the tire, and since it isn't i was going to have Jim aka Micro Nitro make me a trim ring to extend the rim to fit this tire and since I got the rims from him. who else but to have him help me with this.: So originally my plan with these tires and rims was knowing that they were wider than the stock wheels and rims, I was planning on shorting the rear end to get it all to fit. I knew that it was going to be tight and was going to have to modify the rearend a little bit. I never had test fitted the rim into the tires until this past weekend. So once I noticed that I decided that i would mock it up and see how the body would fit over them. I was lucky enough that it seemed to fit fine but was a little snug. I will be going back and shorting the rear end just a tad on each side to bring the tired in a little closer to the chassis to give clearance between the chassis and tire as well as between the outside of the tire and the body.
