1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018

Then I got a package in the mail that I have been waiting for. I had a few parts that I had drawn for the funny car, New injector had and some updated linkages. As well as a Donovan Manifold (for another Project down the road) and for Giggles I decided to have the FED Chassis printed to see how it would turn out that I drew up not to long ago.: Upclose shot of the manifold, blower and injector had. Sorry its hard to see the detail of it with the natural color of the media its printed in. It will be easier to see once I get some primer on them: So I was so excited to get this Chassis and see how it looked 3D printed. I did it for giggles to see how it would turn out. It passed all of their initial design tests that it went thru: Well when I opened the package up, along with the other items I had. Well that Chassis got damaged in the shipping process which made me super bummed. You can see thru the various pictures here that the front end of the chassis is all tweaked. So I have written Shapeways and they are looking into it as we speak. Now the front end didn't have a lot structure to it so I don't know for sure if it was my design or just from being bounced around after it was packed up. Shapeways will be letting me know soon on what they come up with for a refund or if I am basically out of the money. Although I am going to go back and add some more supports to the front area to stiffen it up so It can't get damaged during shipping. Anyway here is what it and the damage looks like: -

Alright Fellas... got a few little updates done to this. It's very minor but it means the build is moving forward. I had to make a parachute mount bracket so that I could tie the parachute lines too. Then I worked on getting a few items repainted. Here is what was done.... Here is the Parachute Mount Bracket. It is made up of a Photo Etch Bracket from Dirt Modeler to which I bent and then soldered a 1.0 mm Scale Hardware nut to it that way I can pin the line with a 1.0mm screw and take the parachute on and off: I got my body tin work fixed from where It broke on me when I was painting it last time. I had put it aside for a while and got the piece glued and repainted: I also repainted the Body Head Shields that attach to the rockers on the side of the body. As well as repainted the Spoiler and the parachute mount bracket: Then I have been sanding and priming the K-Style Barrel Valve that I drew and had 3D printed, Still little more work to go on this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/Mooneyzs/Plastic%20Models/1974%20Vega%20Army%20Funny%20Car/DP-Army-Vega%207899-1_zpsxhnrjejs.jpg[/URL] -

John... Thank you. There has been quite a bit of work that has gone into these fuel lines. I can't wait to call them done and move on to the next part of the build. Joe... You have me cracking up over the Mooneyz Plumbing... LOL... Very creative. Brad... It was great to see you at ModelZona even if it was only for a few since I couldn't stay long that day. Bob... Thank you. Mike... Thank you. I am getting there little by little Dave W.... Thank you. Ray... Thank you. I appreciate you following along on this build. Slfam.. Thank you Scott.... Thanks Brother! Nikko... Hey thank you, Its great to see you back around here. Hope life is good and school is treating you well. I gotta tell you I can't take credit for the A/N Fittings. They all are from RB Motion. My Opinion is they are they best in the business. Not cheap but worth it to me. Tim... Thank you very much my friend. It was a big hurdle for me with the lines. Thanks on the Pulley but I can't take credit for it, I have to give credit to Dave for taking it on his own to machine my pulley's for me. I had sent him the drawings I did to let me know if the sizes and what I drew up looked ok and Dave too it upon himself to machine the set up for me. I couldn't of been more appreciative because I know he spent well over 8 hours of his own time to do these for me. Paul... Thanks my friend... LOL that would of been funny to of put Mooneyz on the blower. Never even thought of that... haha Dan... Thank you. Martin... Thank you very much! Michael... Thank you. I am glad that the pics can help everyone out. I learn a lot from many others here as to why I post my progress the way I do. Dave.. Thank you! Mike R.... Thank you for the kind words. There have a been a few moments thru this build that I have taken a break and have started other projects. Then there have time times where I completely burnt myself out on this one. Currently right now my plan is to just continue to focus on this until its completed. In the future on other builds that I have planned, I am going to have multiple builds going so that it prevents me from getting burnt out on being on one build for so long. Also there is no need to apologize for being quiet. Randy D... Hey Buddy... Thanks for checking it. Gotta say I can't wait to see you and your beautiful builds at the DSC and GSL next year. will be great to hang out again. I gotta tell you that I am super excited to hopefully soon start plumbing the braided lines and everything on the engine. I want to see everything together really bad...lol Danno... Thank you..... Sincerly, Next Year.... Robert.... Thank you very much. I promise I am working as hard as I can to get it done as soon as I can. My plan is to have it done hopefully by April of Next year! Dave R... Thank you my friend. I appreciate the kind words. I had tried a few things to figure out the best way to go about bending the plumbing and Invested some time but I would put the same amount of time in with the results I ended up with. I am very happy with them but at times it felt like I was never going to get them the way I wanted...lol -
Casey... Yep that the one. Thank you very much. I will be keeping my eye out for when it hits the shelf.

Alright Fellas... It's time for another small update. I got a little time in this weekend at the work bench and I decided to work on the Manifold fuel lines and redo the brass templates I did on my first go around because they didn't turn out very good in my opinion. So back to the drawing board it was...lol. This time I decided to set things up just a tad different. So for the Fuel Distribution block I decided to super glue it to the height I wanted instead of just clamping it so it would be completely rigid and my points would stay the same when bending the line. I started by bending the lines from the Manifold ports back to the Fuel Distribution Block. I feel much better on how these turned out but They all are going to have to get done one more time because I can't leave them in the brass. I originally was going to bend them out of Piano wire/Music wire like I did the injector hat but the Piano wire has me concerned that over time it may start to oxidize so I was able to locate some .020" Dia aluminum rod from Detail master and ordered some today. Plus on the real cars I am willing to be that a good portion of them out there are running either Aluminum or Stainless tube but I would think Aluminum to save on any weight they could. Anyway I am waiting on the material to show up so I will wait til it gets here to finish them up and will continue on working on other items on this build. Here is what things look like.... Here are the bits and pieces of my original lines I bent for the fuel lines: So here is my spacer block that I rigged up to keep my Fuel Distribution Block located where I wanted it. I super glued it to the manifold so it wouldn't move and I will have to go back and repaint the manifold: Here is a side view of the lines: Here is a crummy back view: And here is the other side: -

Alright Fellas.... I was finally able to get back to the bench this weekend and make some more progress on this build. I was dreading doing more work to the fittings but It is work that had to be done as far as trimming them down and getting everything prepped and ready for paint. I spend more hours than I thought trimming and getting things ready but after all of the work I was able to get paint on those little suckers. Here is what it all looks like now.... Well first I started back on these fittings by breaking everything down and marking where it would go along with a number system so I would know what was going where after being painted...lol Here I got all of the parts placed on tooth pics so I could hold them to spray them with the airbrush and as you can see I numbered the spots they were in to keep things straigh: Here are the parts after I sprayed Mr Hobby's Clear Blue and Clear Red: And now here is everything done after having to spray some black on a couple of fittings as well as getting the check valves paint up: -

Randy.... Thank you very much my friend. I tried a different way with soldering these items this time. I decided that I would try and shave small pieces of solder and drop them in instead of feeding the solder to the joints. I found That I am able to use way less solder and that way there is really no clean up required at all. Brad... I had family in town for a few weeks and was finally able to get back to the bench. -
John... That is some mighty fine work you have done and the progress you have made is just awesome. I can see that you are just about to the end of the tunnel on this one and probably can call it done in just a few days if that. The details are really nice on the engine. Love your weathering on it. It looks so good with everything in place. The underside of the car looks great with your Weathering Magic you added to it. This has been a fun build to watch. Can't wait to see it done and then see what you start next!

Tim.... That chassis is one fine piece of Work. Top Notch stuff right there. Love that you have gotten the half's together. I also love the Jig you fabricated up to hold the chassis. NO better way than having a Jig to keep things all lined up a square. You are making me want to build a brass chassis really bad....lol. I can't wait until your next update. Nice Job Tim. keep up with the great work.

GSL 2017...SIX MONTHS AHEAD...ARE YOU STILL PLANNING TO BE THERE?
Mooneyzs replied to simonr's topic in Contests and Shows
I will be there so count me in. I can't wait for it again. Its one of the best shows in my opinion. Russell... I am almost positive and believe that Randy D will be there this year. I believe he will also be at the Desert Scale Classis as well prior to the GSL. -
Just today I was trying to go to Photobucket to upload some pics and count me in with the group of people that can't access it. This is what I am getting when I try to go to Photobucket and I have paid for extra storage: Sorry, an unexpected error occurred. Please try again or go back to the previous page.

John... This is looking awesome!! Your work is Killer. Keep up the great work on this. Looks like you only have a few things left to do before it's done. The contrast between the Dash, the Roll Cage and the body just looks great!! Keep up the nice work on this one. I can't wait to see what you will start building after this one is done.
