Fuel pump for '64 Olds 330
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Harold! Those two pics will come in mighty handy! Googling is nice, but I have limited time (and patience) to go through page after page of trying to find a decent pic. I notice the intake manifold is slightly different than the one I want use. Then of course I'm trying to use a three carb manifold and "fake it". No matter as this isn't going to be a show car, but something that's a lot better than just a curbside build. -
Okay, I'm being stumped by a detail for my '64 Olds engine and can't seem to find any decent pics of it! Can someone tell me which side of the engine the fuel pump sits on for a '64 Olds 330? Looks like I'll have to scratchbuild one as there isn't one included in the '66 kit I'm working with. Thanks in advance!

David, you're doing a fantastic job with what's probably a very underrated race car. You just don't see much written about the Cunninghams (unlike Cobras or Ferraris) much less many models done of them. They could be quite formidable with their Chrysler Hemis and a good driver! Keep up the good work!
-
Now those two would make a clean sweep at any show they compete in! Gerald's models in particular could stump many a trained eye when it comes to "Real or Model" for instance!

Thanks for the compliments guys! I have to say though that a couple of the best builders I have seen and where I got my inspiration, have to be Larry Boothe and Juha Airio. Neither of them post on the board though. Those of you long time MAMA's Boyz know Larry and some of the FANTASTIC work he's put out over the years. And Larry was doing working features long before I was attempting it! Juha's work simply blows me away as he can take a common kit and turn it into something uncommon. A '56 Studebaker from a '55 Chevy?? Unreal! You've got to see this model to believe it! One that got me fired up back in the '80's, and made me determined someday to try my hand at roll-up windows, is none other than Ken Hamilton! I'm not sure if Ken's ever posted on this forum, but his work is well known among long time builders and his dioramas are simply outta this world! Aftashox as my son?? Hmmm.............

Yes, Johan made regular street versions of the '69 AMX. I have two '69's----one built and one never touched, as well as a '70 that needs a good resto. The Johan Javelin's (all years) will need pretty much the same mods as you're doing to the AMX. The inner structures were pretty much the same until the end of the line in 1974. As I mentioned earlier, the front suspensions on the '70 models and later would be a bit different as AMC switched to regular ball joints by then, instead of the hoary trunion setup.
-
Alright Cruz! One of my favorite year Catalinas! Chassis looking good so far! Ain't separate frames nifty for painting??
-
That orange AMX shown on your link is actually a 1:18 scale as I have one (somewhere). Yes, it's a very nice piece for the money, but to my knowledge-------no one's ever done a proper 1968-'70 AMX in 1/25 scale except for Johan. Now imagine if Revell or someone did an up to date modern kit of a 2 seat AMX! I'd think they'd sell more than a few of them. Throw in the Drag-On-Lady race options and it would be a definite winner!

That's a real beauty Jon! I've always liked Corvairs, and I had an Uncle that I think owned just about every model Corvair at one time or another. One thing I distinctly remember about Corvairs is that unique starter sound when they were firing up. I could tell one from a couple blocks away as a kid!

Kit prices for a well detailed kit??
MrObsessive replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It would depend on subject matter for me..............I've spent big bucks on diecasts that were super detailed (Danbury) but they were of cars that I've always wanted. In today's economy, manufacturers are watching every nickle, so don't hold your breath for something super esoteric. And finally.................. THERE IS NO "E" IN CAMARO!!!!! -
Niko, that's the kit you want! Should be pretty close to the suspension pieces you need with some tweaking.
-
That can be subjective as not all chrome parts are made equally. I won't name names---------but I've gotten repopped plated parts from a certain manufacturer that could have stood a good cleanup. Others were better than new as the mold lines, flash, etc, were taken care of. I've also found the resin plated stuff is harder to get the chrome off than the kit parts..........or maybe I wasn't using the right product that day.

Aftermarket 1966 Batmobile decals?
MrObsessive replied to Nitrozilla's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's one of the first TV shows I can remember that WAS in color back then! We just got a color TV set circa 1965 and most of the shows seemed to be in black and white still. Yeah, I have a GOOD childhood memory! -
How To Make Opening & Functional Doors, Hoods, and Trunks
MrObsessive replied to nwmud's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Gary, pick up the Nov. '08 issue of MCM (can be ordered here). I wrote a pretty in depth article on how to open doors on models that have gooseneck hinges. In other words, hinges that make the door swing on the outside of the fender. I can't remember if someone did a tutorial here, but I don't want to take money out of Gregg's pocket by hijacking the article on the board either. When I get the time, I need to do one on doors that pivot on the inside of the fender. This time of the year, I don't have much time for building, let alone write lengthy articles! -

Your post makes me long for a house with some garage space where I could work on a couple cars. I wish I could have put my '69 AMX into storage instead of selling it years ago. But you know they say hindsight is 20/20............. Good luck in getting her back on the road! I don't know your wife, but who doesn't love an old car to tool around in on a picture perfect day! Especially a convertible, nothing beats the feel and sound of a old, tuned V8 rumbling along. New cars have their place, but too many of them are just so dang sterile it's not even funny! They're nice for going back and forth to work, safe, and handle well-----------but many of them are lacking the personality that the old ones had IMO. -
There's a fella by the name of Dale Horner up the road from me that does chrome plating, and he's quite good rivaling Chrome Tech. It's Little Motor Kar Company, and years ago I had some parts sent to him to be replated, and they came back absolutely perfect. He has no website, but here's his address................... Little Motor Kar Co. 203 Linda Lane Reading, PA 19606 (610) 779-1462 Also, he has email, you can contact him here. His prices start at $20 for a 6" X 8" rack, but you'll have to contact him for any other particulars. HTH!

I got to see this car in person at GSL a few years ago, and still can't over all the detail! I have this kit, but don't think I'll be matching this level of detail anytime soon! In fact I've been considering getting rid of it at some point. Still ABSOLUTELY STUNNING Mark, and to think you did a number of these like this is amazing!!
-
Hmmm.........That WILL be interesting Alan! To keep everyone in suspense, that's the one that the public never saw except on the pages of magazines due to the "Andrea Doria". Also, if you want to know where Chrysler got the wild styling themes of the 1960-'61 models, you need to look no further than this car.
-
Beautiful! Just beautiful Tom!! That's definitely one of Chrysler's finest in their "better" days! I wish I could be as prolific as you when building.........between overtime at work and my own house to deal with, I just don't have the time like I used to!

Auto ID Quiz #4 COMES TO A SCREECHING HALT!!!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
One has to be really into the unusual to get this one.........I think I got it though. -
One thing I've done (actually doing right now with a build), is use Parafilm to cover areas I don't want paint wearing away from handling. Parafilm can be found on eBay, or you can check this site here. Here's a pic of Parafilm in action.............. It's also good for putting on painted bodies (after the paint has fully dried), especially a monocoque chassis where you have to paint the body before putting the interior in such as a D-Type Jag I built which is in my signature. HTH!
-
Wow Roberto, that color certainly gets your attention! Very clean and spotless! Congrats on the second place showing!
-
Excellent Build! Very good job on the trunk reinforcement and hinges!
-
I remember seeing a LOT of '56 Oldsmobiles when I was a kid, but NEVER one like that one! Looks kinda cool though with those body lines!
