Yes, it should. Red plastic is particularly nasty to deal with because of the pigments in the plastic itself. Yellow plastic can be another head banger. What may have happened though is the plastic was "etched" and some sanding may be needed to get a smooth surface again once the paint is removed. I mentioned that certain primers are "hot"............Duplicolor is one of them especially using it straight out of the can. One of the things you can do when dealing with red or yellow plastic is to "barrier" it first. Even with certain primer coats------I get on the cautious side and use a barrier. I like to use Future Floor Wax, (or Pledge with Future Shine as it's called now) to barrier plastic against hotter paints. You can brush Future on the plastic directly and it'll leave no brush strokes, or if you're careful you can airbrush it on-------but you have to work quickly as it can run fairly easily. Check out this link here which will give you the lowdown on Future and it's other uses. If you can, show us some progress pics on how it turns out!

I'm not much into street rods...........in fact I only ever built one, and that was over 20 years ago! But I really like this one! The stance, the color, the cycle fenders..........it all comes together so sharp and clean! Hmmm...............some inspiration I feel coming on!

If I were you I would completely strip the paint and start over. Spraying over a bad brush paint job won't make things any better...........it'll just bury the fine details on the body such as scripts, body creases, etc. There are several products for stripping paint------some guys use CSC (the Purple Power), Easy Off Oven Cleaner (yellow can and my favorite), Polly S Paint Remover, and a few others out there that some guys can come up with. Follow the label directions very carefully using these products! The oven cleaner particularly can be nasty stuff so using some rubber gloves are paramount! After the body is stripped clean and thoroughly washed, you can spray paint your body with the paint you described. If you haven't spray painted before though, I highly recommend you practice on a junk body to get the hang of how it works. Use a good quality primer (NOT Testor's!). Duplicolor or Plastikote primers are excellent..............but be careful spraying these directly on bare plastic. The Duplicolor in particular can be a bit "hot" for certain manufacturers plastics, so once again practice makes perfect here. I would also recommend you get in the habit of block sanding your body work before doing any kind of spray painting. Especially around door lines and such, there are "troughs" which come from the molding process. You'll want to block sand these flat to avoid any paint separation around those door lines-----and sanding your body will make the paint adhere better. A lot of info for sure, but the main thing is take your time and have fun doing so! Hope all this helps!

Wow! Seeing those dates on those old mags brings back some childhood memories for me.............some not so pleasant. July 1965..............My mom and dad had just separated on their way to a divorce. My mom took my sister and I from a large 3 bedroom home to a small apartment. From there on it was weekends between two parents and still endless arguing. Anywho..........that is some PRICELESS stuff! The model mags I would want to scan so at least there on some kind of digital format in case something would happen to the mags. The John Kennedy articles appear pretty neat too..............I wouldn't remember much about him as I was just two when he was killed.

Sad but very true......... My first car with a stick was a '65 Dodge Dart Convertible with three on the tree. It was a little intimidating at first, but after a day or so------I could shift it with no problem. The only thing I didn't like about that car was first gear wasn't synchronized. If you weren't at a complete stop when you wanted to shift into first............CRUNCH!!

When I bought my Saturn Ion coupe several years ago.......I INSISTED on a manual! In larger cars I can see an automatic as big cars don't seem right with a stick. But nothing drives me crazier than to see a "economy" car with an automatic. It kind of negates the extra MPG's that a manual would bring? Now mind you, some folks who are handicapped can't drive a manual for different reasons so I wouldn't ban them..................it just seems with the disappearance of manuals from the road, bad driving has increased due to more inattentiveness. The stop and go traffic doesn't bother me as I've learned to let the car coast along a bit, to save wear and tear on the clutch release bearing. Especially sitting in traffic I don't sit there with my foot depressed on the clutch. BTW a Corvette with an automatic is HERESY!! I've also wondered what's the ratio of cars stolen that are automatics as opposed to ones that are sticks?

2006 Dodge Magnum SRT8 Review (Long!)
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Seems as though my original post is threadbare! The pics were from Fotki, but not long ago I changed the sizing to a larger resolution there..............so I guess the URL's have changed. I may go back in redo them.............but just check my Fotki site and you'll see 'em. -
...................................And that's what's contributed in part to the woefully inadequate driving on today's roads IMO. Folks yacking on the phone, putting on makeup, texting, you name it. Having to shift gears for yourself?....................Naaah!

I also wanted to add that you could try sanding out those bubbles------------but I'm afraid you're gonna see bare primer/plastic underneath because the paint did not fully stick for some reason in those spots.

If it were me I'd strip it and start over, but I'm very particular when it comes to paint. Seems as though your paint had some excess propellant in it when you sprayed............I'm not sure as I seldom if ever use cans when I paint bodies. A slightly further distance away when spraying may help. I would also make sure the paint can is warmed up a bit before spraying. I had a similar problem with Tamiya's spray cans when I tried to decant them some time ago. There was so much propellant to gas out, I had to wait a good hour before all the bubbles went away.

Another idiot eBay buyer
MrObsessive replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well there are some good folks out there selling.......... True Story: Years ago I won a MPC Aston Martin (a '66?) kit that believe it or not had 10 bucks in the box! Seems as though the guy felt he charged a little too much for shipping and wanted to make good on it. The model originally came from Canada and I didn't think the shipping was too bad considering. Or maybe the guy was hiding money from his wife and forgot it was there! -
Another idiot eBay buyer
MrObsessive replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I tend to agree..........I've gotten things off eBay that I probably paid a bit too much for. Also there's the matter of waiting time-------Modelhaus can take up to six weeks to ship. At least this guy should get it within a week if he paid the same day. The seller I think is Ed Cervo of Island Collectibles. He's a great guy as I've met him at the shows in person and have bought from him before. -
Nice and clean.........just the way I like 'em------and I love the interior! BTW, that stripe looks great with the white paint!

That's one of my favorite colors for early/mid '60s Pontiacs! Excellent build with flawless paint! If GM would have given current Pontiacs the personality it had when this car was new--------they may not even consider letting the division go. In fact, a lot more of GM cars could stand some good "character" styling!

That is a beautiful model..............but nope, it's not mine. I have that kit laying around somewhere-----whoever built that took great care in doing so because of all the separate panels. If the top sits on the body without being crooked, and the decklid sits flush, I'd say this builder is top notch as that's not an easy build to begin with.

Unusual car video.

60's styled 2005 "RETRO-VETTE" COUPE
MrObsessive replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in WIP: Model Cars
AAAH another watch pin user! If you need some pics Dave on how I did mine with another model................you can go here to my Fotki page where I did my Turbine Car in a similar manner. The pics have some text on how it was done...........but your 'Vette being a totally different body style, will naturally be not quite the same way I did it. Hope this can help a bit! -
60's styled 2005 "RETRO-VETTE" COUPE
MrObsessive replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Alrighty now! This is looking mighty good! The hardest thing is getting opening panels to be symmetrical------you've got that hurdle beat Dave as those door jambs look good! Now to get the full title of being "Obsessive" you're gonna have to make working struts for that opening hatch! -
Real or Model #75 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
It's not really misaligned George-------that's how hardtop Camaro glass was fitted from the factory back then. It was probably more practical for the designers to have the front glass shut against the rear quarter glass that way against the weatherstripping, particularly since the glass has no frame around it like they did hardtop glass a few years before. I've got a book on Camaros that shows every minute detail for each year from 1967-81. That's one of the details they highlighted particularly with the '67-'69 models. -
Real or Model #75 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Hey, I got this one right this time! The tip off for me was the side glass. Most modelers don't put in the side glass, let alone make the rear quarter glass slightly offset from the front like the 1:1 -
Beautiful car Curt! That's one body style that will never grow old!

I have the one you have pictured Dave............and it's a real nice body! Juha always does excellent conversions and this one's no exception! A least with the Modelhaus kit you get a complete kit with chassis and all in case you don't have the Barracuda fastback to kitbash it with. And of course you get that excellent Modelhaus quality!
