Thanks for the pictured review Steve! I have this kit ..............somewhere. I was wondering if the newer tool '66 Fairlane chassis would work underneath that? Hmmm............now my curiosity is up, and I'll have to dig these kits out and take a look see.
-
Well, if your LHS doesn't carry Model Cars Magazine........Shame on them!! You can always get a sub here though.........
-
You can try taking 400 grit sandpaper, folding it in half, and V-sand your grooves. It may take some work, but I can't think of any other method to get what you're after. Plastruct comes to mind also as they make styrene sheets with a diamond pattern in different measurement grids. Once again though, the thickness can be your enemy for bending and shaping that trans tunnel. Check your LHS if they can carry it, or you can check around on the 'net.
-
I could be wrong, but I think Evergreen makes diamond pattern sheet plastic which is real close to what you want. The only problem would be the thickness, since you want it to be at least .020 or thereabouts. That trans tunnel would be the killer though------you might have to heat it up somehow and bend it without distorting the pattern. Or you could do a criss-cross pattern yourself carefully with an exacto blade...........

That's lookin' sharp Clay! You know I'm a fan of all Stude coupes.......especially the '53's to '61's. That's too bad about the BMF...............it was looking really good!
-
Wow nice Gasser! I wish my fourth model was this nice..........and I WAS an adult (well almost at 17) when I started building!
-
I love Shelbys of all years, and you're definitely doing this kit justice! What a nice color to contrast with the gold stripes!

Well, having a much needed jump start from building the 1/43 Ferrari.............I've been looking over this for a while now. I haven't seen one of these built up in a very long time, so I figured it's time to do this nice kit some attention. As most of you know, this was an old tool reissued by Lindberg some years ago. The tooling has held up well as I see no excessive flash, and the parts are molded pretty crisply for tooling that dates back to the mid '60's. Some foibles are bound to turn up, such as the finicky door hinges------I haven't decided to use these or to make brass ones for durabilty. I'll have to see how my patience holds up to this point. Not a whole lot to show right now, but I have started on making the gas door functional as well as make the door creases a bit crisper than they were.............some tweaking will be done to the door jambs to make them sit more flush to the body. Here's a couple shots of the door creases made a little more defined......... I used the back edge of the exacto blade to open up the gas door------here is the rough hewn shape of it at the moment.......... The gas door needed some plastic around the perimeter to fill out the gap......... Just a scooch more tweaking, and it'll fit perfect in the opening------the next step is to hinge it swivel style. Here's the package of the Herb Deeks PE set of wire wheels............the jury's out if they'll work or not, but the diameter appears to look correct for this type of car as opposed to the junky wheels in it now. That's all for now-----later I'll hinge the headlights and tweak the body a bit more to accept acetate glass and then start on the engine a bit. Painting the body will be way down the road as I like to make sure everything will fit well without much hassle..............that's the last thing I want! Stay tuned!

1963 Ford Cougar II
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for all the help guys! A lot of info I can certainly use! As for the wheels Ron, I picked up a set of Herb Deeks PE wheels on eBay a while back------probably not the exact spoke count as the 1:1's on the Cougar, but they should do. Stay tuned for a thread on the build later............... -
Why thank you Mike! I figured it was 'bout time I tried my hand at writing something! I've got a couple more ideas in store, but for me it can be an effort at times as I sometimes just jump in and do things--------it can be hard for me to express in words. At least words that'll make sense!

1963 Ford Cougar II
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh okay..............Lindberg was right! I stand corrected! I've seen the car listed as both a '63 and '64 but seeing how the car was an answer to the then new Corvette Stingray, being a '63 would make more sense as Ford was quick to respond to markets in those days. Too bad the car never made production-----it would have been a real screamer! -
1963 Ford Cougar II
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Be patient my friend! My computer is going to be undergoing some "down time" shortly as I'm waiting on new memory chips that are coming from Crucial.com. I got an email saying they were on the Fed Ex truck so hopefully they'll be here sometime this morning. I'm going to be pretty busy with other things today and tomorrow after I get the computer up and running again, so I won't be posting any pics until maybe tomorrow evening at the earliest. I'll have a total of 3 GB of RAM in this thing.........that'll definitely make it speedier than the 1 GB I'm running now! -
Very NICE!! Perfect heel and toe positioning!

1963 Ford Cougar II
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup Peter, that's one of the pics I have! In another photo the hue seems a little darker. Yeah, that's what I was thinking too Steve. So either would be correct------the Lindberg box art car is done pretty well. In fact, I remember the "Those Famous Fords" box art car from Testor's years ago was painted a bright red. That'll probably be what I'll go with so I can get rid of the rest of the Krylon! Over a dark gray primer should do the trick. Thanks for the help guys! -
Okay! I'm in the midst of starting another project.......the Lindberg '63 Ford Cougar II (I know the box art says '63 but I believe the car is a '64 ) I've seen and have various pics of the car, but what was the true color of the car from back then? Some show a dark metallic red, while others show a bright solid red. If any of you remember seeing this car (or have good pics) from the show circuit back then, I'd sure appreciate some info! I'm tempted to just paint the car Krylon Banner Red and be done with it, to minimize drama.................we'll have to see. I'll post pics of the project this weekend------I've taken pics, but don't have them loaded on my hard drive and posted on Fotki yet. Thanks in advance!

Those wheels and stance are a natural for that car Brian! So nice and clean as a whistle!

Two-toned paint schemes masking question.
MrObsessive replied to GMP440's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I use two things for masking paint...........Parafilm M, and Tamiya Tape. Both leave no residue, are easy to handle and are relatively inexpensive for what you get. The Parafilm can be found here but it's a little pricey IMO for the size roll they give you--------you're better off finding it on eBay on the cheap if you want to buy it on the 'net. Also if you have a medical supply shop nearby, they may have it as it's used in laboratories for sealing beakers. Tamiya Tape can be found in well stocked hobby shops, if not there then definitely on the 'net. HTH! -
1970 Mercury Montego from Missing Link!
MrObsessive replied to kevin's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Kevin here's your pic..............That is a real BEAUTY!! For those of you that want to see this reaaaalll big-------click here and then click on "Get Original Uploaded Photo". -
Nice build Marty! That's actually an Imperial ('64-'65?) which was the only full frame Chrysler that year as the rest were already unibody at that point. Yes, that car came from a TV show which I can't remember the name either, 'cept to say I think that was originally an AMT kit.
-
Well, lets see.......... Finish up the languishing '55 Ford. Just started the old '64 Cougar II from Lindberg-------will post pics later. Might start an old Triumph GT6 that I've had for years after the Cougar. I found out through the grapevine that kit's being reissued, so I won't feel guilty about starting an original kit. And for something new, I may build the '06 Viper roadster that keeps calling me to build it lately.
-
Guys, these pics don't do justice to the fantastic work that Mr. Biggs does! I've seen them up close and personal and they have to be seen to be believed!! Those other projects you've got goin' on are gonna be knockout when done!
-
Yes, I'd really rather have THAT Buick! Not today's! Beautiful car Harold! Great job also of lengthening the chassis from the '67 Chevy..............hard to tell where you made the cuts unless you told us. 1965-66 were the pinnacle IMO of GM's styling prowess with the '61's coming in a close second! I bet if they had that same styling panache 20 years ago as they did then........they might not be in the mess they're in now.

Toby, your link's not working..............I don't know if this was the one you were referring, but here's the link for it. -
Excellent solder work Jairus! I always have trouble keeping the adjacent joints from coming apart------which type of solder are you using? I was thinking about soldering the inner frame in a Mercedes 300SL down the road as to why I'm curious...........
-
Nice Dio MJ!! But why are they making that poor alien work? Yup, that's how I remember seeing most '57's back in the '70's as a teen.............now everyone seems to want one like new as they were in '57!
