  1. Thanks Jim! The paint was '57 Corvette Venetian Red (has a somewhat orange cast to it). I had it mixed locally by a auto paint shop. I've been using them for years as I get to control how much thinner to use since I mostly airbrush, as opposed to spraying from a can which too many times for me has been unpredictable. They know me pretty well, and make just enough for what would be a touch-up amount for a car. Yes, that is BMF for the chrome trim on the coves, as well as the windshield frame. I still have the model as it's in a case 99% of the time which is in another display case to keep my nosy cats away. Hard to believe I built that during 2001-'02! Time flies!
  2. Oh I'm sure of that. My '69 AMX originally equipped came with a space saver spare, and may have been one of the first cars to do so with the intro of the AMX/Javelins in '68. I just hate how the styling across the board has dictated what they put in a car and what they won't. Too many cars have the back ends and deck lids so high up that they want to put a back up camera in cars now as standard. IIRC, isn't that a mandate for cars in a few years? How 'bout making the cars so that they're not so hard to see out of in the first place! Someone mentioned about the high beltlines in cars these days. That may be more of a safety thing than anything else. With the proliferation of trucks and SUV's, regular car styling seems to me had to go that way for better side impact protection? Some cars look OK with that and some don't. The smaller the car, the more ungainly it appears.
  3. Magnets!! Now why didn't I think of that years ago when I was building my D Type?? I actually made mine to tuck in the buckle, but man this is a MUCH more practical and great idea!
  4. Me neither! This is way out wishful thinking, but could it be that the tooling for that '61 Chrysler Slant Six is out there? I have one, but wouldn't it be cool to see THAT back on the hobby shelves?? Problem is there aren't very many people under 45 that may even know what that is. But to us 'Boomers' that rode in Mopars that had 'em, they're unmistakable! In sound and in looks!
  5. I did forget another things that drives me absolutely crazy about today's cars. I can't stand to see that stupid 'donut' of a spare on a car instead of an actual spare tire. I know why they do it..........to save space and weight. But for goodness sake--if they would STYLE the car so that it would have an acceptable spare, then there'd be no need for the dumb donut in the first place huh?? That brings me to another point about things I miss. A nice, BIG expansive trunk! Say what you will about the Challenger, but that is a nice size trunk it has, and two or more people can pack very well for a nice getaway weekend, and not be cramped or have their stuff all smashed up. Of course, despite its size my car has that woefully dumb donut too. Is this part of the reason people have migrated to trucks and SUV's? Or are they now afflicted with that dumbness??
  6. You can blame the Safety Nazis for the demise of that style. They won't make those, but convertibles are still around?? Same goes for the four door hardtop. The cars looked SO MUCH BETTER without that ungainly center post!
  7. Snake, I don't remember which car magazine I read this, but they mentioned how the Challenger is actually the last American full sized two door car on the market. Comparisons to the Camaro and Mustang I understand because of its looks, but size wise there's no comparison. The Challenger on the inside is VERY roomy, and I can take long eight hour trips (I've been from here in Central PA to Toledo OH), and not feel stressed or dying to want to get out of the car at all. I can't say the same for my Saturn Quadcoupe! While it was not a bad car at all performance and reliability wise (except for the very last year), it just wasn't a car for long trips. I think the Challenger has spoiled me in that I don't think I ever want a small car again if I can absolutely avoid it! I think society today dictates what options are most wanted on a car and what aren't. 30 years ago when I was in my late 20's, I owned my TOTALLY stripper '69 AMX as a daily driver. It literally had no power anything! No power steering, brakes, windows, and believe it or not VACUUM wipers which I thought went out with the '50's. No AC, AM radio, vinyl seats and the exhaust was loud coming from that 390 C.I. It was a 4 spd manual---fun, but a real PITA to drive in stop and go traffic, and without those creature comforts made a drive around town unbearable at times due to no AC. But I was a young 20 something and just put up with it. Now in my late 50's I don't think, in fact I KNOW I wouldn't want a car like that today to drive on a daily basis. Tastes change, and my Challenger has just about every option except the NAV system which I can use my phone for. Buyers today are a lot more choosy, and except for a few real diehards, a stripped down model I don't think would go over very well in today's world. Some would buy it, but when it comes time to trade in or resell, I think a car like that would take a real hit, and end up losing money in the long haul. Yeah, it's not 1968 anymore when a car like that sold like hotcakes. For good or for bad, society has become a lot more sophisticated and 'spoiled' to a degree in what they want in a car.
  8. Ahhhh Ok! That's why they look familiar!
  9. Yes I know..............was hoping that somehow the Pontiac would come back to life too?
  10. Thanks for posting this! Looks like 3D printing is going nowhere anytime soon and that's a GOOD thing. I'd sure like to see the reissue of the '66 Pontiac. Despite the lack of detail, there's a lot that can be done with that. Is it true that was originally an MPC tooling? I have an original '66 and it sure looks awful close!
  11. You got to hear my Corvair starting sound effect! Nothing ever sounded quite like them starting up! OK, I know I'm not crazy now. When I was a kid in the '60's, I used to think gasoline smelled so good!! I knew that something changed over the years and that was it..........the lead was taken out! Ahhhh the memories!
  12. A G8 was one of the cars I was looking at when I needed another car. I DO like the proportions on those............long dash to front axle ratio, clean looks and V8 powered although that was not of utmost importance. I wanted to be able to get in and out of the car, and not be cramped when I'm inside. I ended up not getting one, because the bank mentioned that the car was 'too old' and couldn't be financed. This was in very late '14, and the GM stopped production of those in '09. I do hate the short front ends on a lot of the cars today. Small cars it's not so bad for obvious reasons, but on larger cars it looks outright ungainly and totally unappealing to me. About the Challenger: I own one and when the car first debuted, I was a little put off by how 'tall' it was. As I did some digging into the design of the car, I learned that Chrysler had to use an existing platform's hard points (cowl, basic frame architecture) and in this case it had to be the Charger/300. Perhaps it could use a slight sectioning in the middle, but I have to say that for long trips, nothing beats the flat out roominess of it. I don't see the car as a direct comparison of the Camaro/Mustang. My insurance company tells me they consider the car full sized due to its dimensions, particularly interior space. I found the Camaro and Mustang to be woefully cramped, so I doubt I'd ever buy one of those. You could say that the Challenger is the truly the last full sized two door that's out there. Everything else is either a 'pony car', or some type of small compact/sports car. Full size two doors have gone by way of the dinosaur unfortunately. No, I'm not a fan of the Crossover/SUV's either. I'll take a nice size wagon any day over one of those. If I had to have one, I did like the Toyota Venza.........a vehicle they've since stopped making. That had some nice lines and wasn't overly big or too tall. Who knows-----in time those might grow on me too, and who's to say 30-40 years from now they won't be collectible like certain cars years ago people thought were never going to be worth anything. A 1955-'57 Chevy comes to mind............
  13. Carl, you and I are around the same age, so growing up in the '60's and '70's there was a whole variety of cars one would see on a daily basis at least in my neck of the woods. Although not as numerous as they were in the early '60's, you still saw the finned freeway flyers used as daily drivers, parked right next to (or in front of) a brand spanking new '68 Charger RT for example. As the '70's wore on, while the performance was way down, the cars (especially GM A bodies) still had a certain class and presence about them. And there certainly was no mistaking what they were coming down the road. Being a car guy, I can tell most new makes when I see them despite a lot of the sameness in styling cues. I just wish there was more variety and daring style in cars today as opposed to what I saw on the road 40 years ago when I was getting out of high school.
  14. Proportions, Proportions, Proportions! I cannot stand the way a lot of these cars are styled today proportion wise. I'm so tired of the windshield over the front wheels look! Yes, I know that many of them have FWD architecture, but I look no further than the original Olds Toronado from 1966-'67. FWD, but there's not a bad line or disjointed styling cue anywhere on 'er! Now styling is subjective and someone in their 30's and 40's may not appreciate this. But with so many cars sharing the same styling cues (rooflines come to mind), where is the daring and dashing style from the '60's and '70's?? Yeah, today there really are no BAD cars, I just wish a lot of them had the "gotta have it" looks about 'em. OK rant over!
  15. You can just about guarantee that any future release of kits that Don and Carol put out will be an instant collectible, ESPECIALLY since it'll be a limited run. You think it's crazy now on the 'Bay with their items? Just wait until they release something in a limited run of say 100, and then poof it's gone. If it's a popular subject of something that hasn't been offered before, or not seen in quite a long time, BOOM! The feeding frenzy and bidding wars will be intense! This is just my own 2¢ worth, and others may disagree. Seeing how crazy it was this past weekend however, I think I'm correct on this one.
  16. BTW, a BIG shout out to Marcos Cruz! I see your car is also featured on the site...........beautiful '60 Ford!!
  17. A couple years ago, I spoke to Bob personally at the NNL East and I had asked him about the Shelby PE. He had said then it was still under development and I mentioned that if he could include some of the Green Hornet scripts that would be great. This was before I got started on that WIP, and with all the pics I have of that car now, it seems that it used the same scripts and such as the other models, save for the side striping and maybe the '428' badging on the sides. This is the first I've seen them pictured though (along with the T-Bird set) so hopefully that's a good sign that they're soon ready to sell.
  18. Sure did! I've been asking about a set for those for years now! I don't see them listed in his catalog yet, but I did drop him a line to see when they might be available. That Shelby set will come in mighty handy! Hopefully it's ready before I get my Green Hornet all done......especially the things I see for the interior. Thanks Mike!
  19. I was in high school when these were new and I always thought that is WAS a kit car and not a real car company! For whatever reason, the car reminds me of the Kelmark GT kit car that a guy I knew was building in our shop class back when these were on the road. Maybe that's what made me think kit car! $7800?? You could have bought a new Caddy for not much more than that, and at least you'd have the full backing of GM for whatever that was worth considering that period of time.
  20. That's such a neat and great looking model, and one I'm sure my Uncle would've loved as he had a '66 in nearly the same color. He still had it until he passed away back in '09........I'm not sure what became of it. I became VERY familiar with Corvairs (particularly the first gen) as a kid in the '60's as they seem to be everywhere in my neck of the woods. Of course, my Uncle owned Corvairs pretty much ever since Chevy intro'd them. We had family friends that had them, so I got to be real familiar with how they sounded when they ran, and even how the starter sounds when firing up!
  21. Ahhh! That worked! I put it in a separate post and it now takes it..........funny how that works!
  22. OK, I think I zeroed in on the issue with my intermittent posting troubles. I was just trying to post what I was seeing on The Model Car Garage as I had did a screen capture, and was linking if from my Fotki page. Once again, I got the "Page Not Found" message, and decided to delete the whole message in this text box. I tried uploading the pic from my hard disc and was getting the same message. The problem seems to be something in that pic that the board doesn't like. I don't know if it's because of the type (.jpg), or if using the different colored fonts is the issue. I use the dark blue bold font as it makes it MUCH easier to see this board, and spruces the joint up a bit. All I can say is if you click here, and look at the cars scrolling past, you'll see what I was excited about.
  23. I just bought some of his gauge faces with the sale he has. You buy five of them and the fifth one is free. He'll refund your money through PayPal which was in the amount that one of the gauge face sets cost. Neat deal as the shipping was free, and his gauge sets are VERY nice!
  24. One saving grace of the updated site is that it does autosave whatever you have typed in to a point. However, until this gets worked out, I'm very reluctant to do any long posts such as my WIP's going on. It's very annoying to spend upwards of a ½ hour to an hour composing something, posting pics, grammar checks, spelling, etc, only to have that annoying error message come up. What I was trying to post yesterday I'll try again, but I'm not hopeful.
  25. Well it didn't.............I've had enough!
