  1. My father has dementia as well so I feel your pain. His mom had it too but passed of an aortic aneurysm when she was 72. Dad turns 79 next month. He's had the onset before my mom passed unexpectedly of a stroke almost seen years ago but it went South big time last year. He was living on his own with an aide coming in three times a week but we had two walk away moments in one day so his living independently was over immediately. I moved him into a nursing home which started out great but their quality of care went from very good to deplorable in about nine months so I had to move him (which you do NOT want to do with a person with dementia!) He's been there coming up on two months and he's had tremendous improvement. He'll never be able to live on his own again but I know he's safe. I'm an only child but I do have a wife and a teenage son who have been helpful more than words can ever convey. You can put them away for a while but don't sell off your kits. They are a great escape from the stress of dealing with the day to day life of watching a family member's decline. Go grab a snap kit....something that won't take days/weeks to complete.....it's kept me out of the local bell tower with a high powered rifle!
  2. Barnes & Noble on Fields Ertle (just South of Kings island) had six copies this morning.....well, five copies now
  3. 1973 Plymouth Duster......$450. A dent in every panel but that slant six would never die! Option list: Power steering.
  4. OMG....my father went into a nursing home earlier this year so I applied for his DD214 (discharge paperwork) to see if he qualifies for any VA benefits. It came today.....SEVEN months after the request!!!! Dad was deployed to Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall but the VA doesn't consider this as 'hostile'/combat area so he doesn't qualify for the VA nursing home. He went into the Air Force after high school (too late to qualify for benefits under Korea) and discharged seven years later (too early to qualify under Vietnam).
  5. I could go for a TVR Tuscan
  6. Once again my home town complains about how the town is going into the dumper, but EVERYONE (mayor and all six council members) was re-elected...and it wasn't along the party lines.
  7. AMT AHC-100 Camaro ('75-77 Camaro).....sealed inside for $30. Fifth grade field trip was to the Cincinnati area (Norwood) plant to watch how the 1:1's were built
  8. As a commercial property manager for 20 years, the laws vary from county to county in my State regarding eviction/reclaiming the space. Call the number on the leasing sign and ask to speak with the property manager. The Landlord is now in possession of stuff they don't want (especially paint due to disposal regulations) and they would like to recoup some of their back rent. Reach out to the local model club and see if you can join forces to make a deal on all of it. They want it out and prep the space for showing/leasing.
  9. I'm a degree'd accountant but I've spent the last 28 years as a commercial property manager (19 years) before selling out to be a facility manager (for just one tenant but several locations) for the last 9 years. Why the career change? I was an auditor and later an accountant but in dead end positions when I started dating a young lady whose father was in the commercial real estate industry (thank you Sheri!) who said I had the personality to be a property manager. I have to be careful how I share this story as that young lady is not my wife....8^)
  10. Customize Matchbox vehicles (and a few Hot Wheels but most have out over-sized wheels and inaccurate dimensions..... Collect give minor league hockey giveaways (bobble heads, trading cards)...mostly ECHL, but some AHL Die hard Bullwinkle fan!! ...and stepfather to three rescue K9's. A 7 year old Jack Russell/Sheltie (Turner), a 3 year old Australian Shepherd/Pekanese mix (Miss Bear) and a 4 year old pure bred Australian Shepherd (Jamie).
  11. 1993 Dodge Stealth. Nothing makes an insurance agent cringe than writing a policy on one of these to a single, male, under 30 driver....even with a spotless record. (25% surcharge for the SE and RT (due to the 24V engine) and my carrier wouldn't one for the RT Turbo for ANY age driver). Always had the sensible car before this (but kept the Dodge Rampage as a second car as the hatch was only about ten inches deep). Front wheel drive so it was great in the snow. Even the base model had enough to break it into triple digits (common sense went out the window and took it up to 130 mph). Getting married and having kids made me re-home it as now i needed something with a usable backseat. Wife hated it as we pulled into a parking space on day and view out the passenger side window was the 16" wheels on a Ford F250 4x4. Bought it with 13,xxx miles and sold it with 110,xxx

If you need some ideas of how to accessorize the interior, I can post pics of the inside of the wife's SUV. LOL
  13. Be careful using a local auction house. 1) Two in my area charge a commission of 40%!! 2) I recently bought a lot where the auction house just lumped models together from an estate without doing any research. One lot of 20 (costing me a little over $3/ea) yielded a sealed Jo-Han Maverick and another lot of 40 built (costing me less than $2/each) yielded a 70 MPC Cyclone and a 74 Impala.
  14. I've been waiting two plus months DD214 (military discharge paperwork) from the VA to see if my father qualifies for a veteran's nursing home. In digging through his files I actually found it! He enlisted right out of high school in 1955 (four months too late to qualify under Korea) and was discharged in 1963 (six months too soon to qualify under Vietnam). Although he has proof of deployment in Berlin during construction of the Wall, that doesn't count as 'hostile' territory. My father has dementia and needs to be in a memory care unit
  15. My oldest son was in the 3rd or 4th grade and I was an assistant coach in what was a little league for basketball. They played an away game at a city where they took it much more serious than we did. They were running the score up on us and my kids were not having fun......until I pulled our team over and told them "you get five fouls....go use four!" Those fast breaks, run-n-gun and fancy lay ups stopped pretty quickly when bodies started flying. No one got hurt and now eight years later my wife still gives me grief over it. My sons friends still laugh about it.

  17. I was in the KHL terminal of the Detroit airport when they came on the speaker asking for volunteers to be bumped as the flight to England was overbooked and overweight! Say whaaaaatttt??? I had to call the wife and waited for the announcement to repeat as I wanted a witness to this one. If I was to be on that plane, I would have preferred just knowing 'overbooked'....didn't need to know the second part of that announcement!
  18. The wife!!!!!!!!!!!! (Which is why we no longer have joint credit cards)
  19. I make the occasional pilgrimage to the only small hobby store in the area, but they are 90% trains. Otherwise, I buy at shows or off the internet. Why? Because the Big Box store check out is the only employee interaction I've had during the entire trip! No, I don't have your frequent shopper card No, I don't want to sign up for it or to be on your mailing list No, I'm not in your system and I will not give you my phone number No, I don't want to donate a dollar to whatever cause you believe in this week No, I don't need batteries for my purchase today since I bought a Hot Wheel and a video game No, I won't be putting this on my store name credit card (I have this weird thing called C-A-S-H) I'd just like to make my purchase and get outta here!!!
  20. Much like the G8 truck, it'll never make it state side. I hope GM does a better marketing job with the new Chevy SS than they did when brought in the same car as the Pontiac G8.
  21. O-man.... Correct, it's not a GT. I'm 47 and suffer from a heavy right foot so with a son who turns 16 in a week, it's best not to put such a vehicle in either of our hands.
  22. For the past eight years.....2002 Mitsubishi Diamante For the past month....2009 Pontiac G8
  23. 42 out of 48...not bad for a 47 year old. My father taught me well !
  24. After a two hour drive to the Kentuckiana Model Car Club contest/swap meet in Louisville this morning, I'm greeted by a neon green that says the show has been cancelled. I presumed it was still a go as the flyers were available just a few weeks ago at the show outside Indy.
  25. I've tried Kangaroo meat.....it made me jumpy!
