No less accurate than the 'professional' weather forecasters that have millions of $$ worth of Doppler radar. As one of the local radio stations morning radio said about the one local weather hottie.....if you're going to give me complete inaccuracy, at least give me something to look at!

1.1 cars that got away
HomerS replied to l88 chevelle's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1992...fully loaded, 5 speed, black on black 1986 Toyota Supra w/ low miles. The contractor replacing the windows in my house didn't know I was a car guy. I had just bought a POS Mercury Topaz for about $3K more than what he sold the Supra for. ARGH!!! 2.5 years and a AAA 'frequent flyer card, I unloaded it for a Dodge Stealth. -
i'm a die hard hockey fan so I know very little about basketball. My ten year old son plays in a recreational league. The team that they were playing today had a player get his fifth foul (so he should be out of the game). Not only did the home team have to point this out to the two refs, but between his fifth foul and the refs took him out, his team went down and scored a two point shot. At a minimum, shouldn't have the points come off the scoreboard?

The local school system passed a tax levy to build a new school replacing three schools the district has let deteriorate to the point its cheaper to replace. The location of the new school will need to have the road widened to accommodate the additional traffic. When the city council was asked what the traffic study recommended, it was announced one was never done! My tax dollars at work!!!!!!

One of the best commercials (I think it was on the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom Shot)....this safety moment was brought to you by the Nine Digit Tool Company.

I don't know if it's still there but years ago while vacationing in Florida, there is a small pond as you come out from The Pier in St Pete. Posted in several places was a sign stating boldly "Do Not Taunt The Alligators". Even before the Animal Planet channel, i would think this would be common sense but I'm sure someone got too close. I wish i could find my picture of that sign

Offbeat Places You Have Purchased Model Kits?
HomerS replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Kids toy resale shop. Per the clerk, the person didn't know who would take these. Nothing special other than a good price -
Other than for my fourth graders class field trip, I have't been to a top level sports game in ten plus years. Both professional teams in Cincinnati are pathetic. Reds set an MLB record for the most home runs this past season and no one from the managerial/coaching staff were canned. Bengals.....missed the playoffs again and they keep the 0-7 in the playoffs head coach. No comment needed with the revolving door of players in trouble with the law. Give me the minor league....Single A Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Reds) or the ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones (affiliate of the Nashville Predators). Guys that put forth the effort to get to move up instead of the $$$. Players meet the fans and sign autographs. Here is the reason for the rant....An excerpt from the Cincinnati Reds.... It took Billy Hamilton until his fourth big-league season to crack the millionaires' club. The Reds are paying him less than they'll pay Ken Griffey Jr. this year - and Griffey hasn't played here since 2008. If you count Griffey Jr., Hamilton is ninth on the Reds payroll for 2017. That's because the Reds are still paying the 47-year-old Hall of Famer $3,593,750 in annual deferred payments - and will until 2025. (In fairness to Griffey, that's because he willingly took less up-front money when he signed a nine-year, $116.5 million contract to come here in 2000. And he signed for less than market value at that.

Fudge...The owner of the Cincinnati Bengals threatened to move the team to LA if the taxpayers didn't pay for the new stadium. They caved (I can say they as I didn't vote for it). The owner said they needed it to be competitive. Another losing season and still haven't canned the coach after going 0-7 in the playoffs.

We've all seen their commercials advertising how they are not the big bank. I paid off my car loan this morning and because I added a little bit every month its a couple month early and the final payment was about a third of the usual amount. The payment date was on the seventh of the month (today). I walked in, handed the teller the paper and the exact amount of $124.22 in cash. She called it up and i needed to cough up another penny as they were already on Monday business (not quite 11a).....and the payment was now $124.23. Seriously? A penny!! I didn't have anything smaller than a $5. So much for getting rid of $0.22, I came home with $0.99 in change. Even if the teller made minimum wage, it cost Huntington more than that to collect the penny rather than hitting the delete key....even explaining it to me was more than $0.01 of her time. It's not the point of the penny....just the stupidity of big business truly squeezing the last penny out of a borrower.

What's left is on sale 40% off. The local stores only have the Chevy SSR and surprisingly, only a few Lindberg cop cars. Lots of dinosaurs, airplanes, eagle and the Shuttle.

You may recall I adopted our fourth dog back in April from a rural shelter in which the poor guy had two chips (neither with current info) and over a pound and a half of fur removed by the groomer. Feeling adventurous, I took him to Petsmart for his pic with Santa. I had a greyhound who was notorious for leaving 'clean up in aisle 3' every time we went so i wasn't sure what to expect. He was an absolute angel! I could not have asked for a better dog. 70 pounds of 2-3 year old overgrown puppy that is spoiled rotten.....and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My father was deployed to Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall (but the VA doesn't consider that a hostile deployment). He moved into a nursing home about a year and a half ago due to his dementia. He doesn't qualify for assistance as he enlisted too late qualify under Korea (he hadn't graduated high school yet) and after 7.5 years, he got out and started a family (a few months too early to qualify under Vietnam). Thank you Dad and all the other vets out there who never got their due!

I recently bought a couple JoHan promos, all mid to lates 60's (I think the 70 Cadillac is the newest one....all the rest are AMC's). They are solid 9-10's down to the chrome. I dont wanna bury them in a box never to be seen again. Besides out of direct sunlight and temperature extremes, any suggestions on how to preserve them? Carney case?

Ollie's is getting models. So far, the three local ones have the Lindberg Ford police cars, Lindberg Ford F150, Chevy SSR and Dodge L700 with the flatbed or the box trailer.

Cincinnati Gardens - Modeled after the Toronto Maple Leafs Gardens in 1949, it was built on the outskirts of northern Cincinnati. It's been the home to concerts, rodeos, minor league hockey, UC and Xavier basketball and the Cincinnati Royals (now the Sacramento Kings). A two local auction houses....one auctioned off the center ice scoreboard and practice rink boards, while today the other one auctioned off the Legends Museum memorabilia. Operation of the building stopped Wednesday. Port Authority bought it for the land to be redeveloped. Dayton Hara Arena - today was the last die cast show. There was a toy show scheduled for November, but due to a family dispute having drained the funds over the past TWENTY YEARS, it was decided to close the building. Built in 1964 north of Dayton, it's last tenant was a FHL ("A" level minor league hockey team). There is a comic book show next weekend but then that is it. Reportedly it may be raised for a new fairgrounds.

My irk today is the emission test/tax. I am the original owner of a 2004 Dodge diesel that has tested zero or next to zero emissions. I was just told they won't test it because it has no catalytic converter. It never had one from the factory and still put out next to nothing emissions. I had unkind words with the technician and plan to find someone knowledgeable with 2003/04 Cummins that run so clean catalytic converters were not necessary. By the way, they were only required on newer models because of regulations not need. I hate government! Ohio had a great idea of emissions testing years ago (and since been abandoned). I had a Dodge Rampage that had to get tested as it wasn't old enough for the exemption. First, it took a while to find THAT GUY who knew how to drive a manual transmission to pull it onto the rollers. Almost always they put the back wheels on the rollers before I told them it wasn't rear wheel drive. They typed in the VIN into the computer and it always came up as a V8. Really? It says 2.2 on the hood! Where would I put the other four cylinders??? The states "logic" doesn't end there! It was considered a truck so I had to buy truck tags or non-commercial plates (an additional $20 money grab by the State). We currently have a 2003 V-8 Durango. A beast of a vehicle, but the State calls it a wagon so it gets car plates?

At least one in my area has the Beetle Bus, Volare, Bonneville convertible and the Hurst Olds. It looked fairly recently stocked -
Hardee's. I'd be happy if they put one local as the closest one is 30 miles away. They have a mexican concept in some as well with The Red Burrrito but the closest ones are about 100 miles away.
