It has been too many years since I have been able to say this, but I HAVE COMPLETED NOT JUST ONE BUT TWO MODELS!!! The red one is Tamiya's 1984 Honda Civic Hatchback built as the export version with the optional left hand drive dash and the black one is Fujimi's 2002 Civic Type R. I built these as a break from a few very highly customized builds, both are box stock, and showed I have a few skills to brush up on like trim painting and had a few glue goof ups on the windows even though I used Testors Clear Parts glue and tried to clean up the goof ups with water. The large black decal across the bottom of the window on the 84 also gave me a little rough time cracking as I was trying to position it. They by far are not the best I have ever built or won't win any contests, but at least finally ended a probably 15 year streak of starting but never finishing builds! I also started two Fujimi garage kits to serve as a backdrop for the pictures.

Kenworth W900 & 53' Smooth Side Trailer
highway replied to T.Ferrante's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes Kerry, that is the Moebius kit. They're the only company making a modern 53 footer, all of AMT's trailers are all 60s and 70s era 40 footers and the Italeri American vans are 48 footers. The smoothside version also includes a roll up rear door option as well as the swing doors Tony used on his. The original issue ribside did not have the roll door and the front bulkhead and rear swing doors were also chromed where the smoothside version does not have any chrome other than the wheels. -
I'm glad you did bring this thread back up!!! I just got one of the older 10th anniversary editions earlier this week from a purchase on Facebook that I was planning on building as the 10th anniversary but is unfortunately missing more than the seller originally thought. I'm soooooo happy to see this will be coming out, because now I can not only build the 10th anniversary but use the other one to build my old Firebird Esprit from high school! I just recently bought this, and it is very nicely done for the age of the kit, and offers a few different building possibilities. The T-Tops have a separate T bar to install after removing the roof section and also includes a flat hood that is meant for the separate raised custom hood scoop, so a base model Firebird or non T-Top equipped Trans Am is completely possible. It also includes the wheels on the box art plus the KITT style disc wheels.

1979 Firebird Formula?
highway replied to DrSprue's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I did a Google image search for "1979 Firebird model kit" and also from having many 2nd gen Trans Am kits, the only two hoods I know of are the shaker and the "Turbo" hood from 80 and 81. As for the 76 Formula, I did a Google image search on it too, and that would get you very close for your Formula with not much work. Although the front bumpers are different, the shape of the hood for the 76 should be the same for the 79 as long as both are MPC or AMT kits because the 79 kits with AMT on the box are the old MPC kits. Unless there is anyone that makes a resin Formula hood, using the 76 or scratchbuilding it may be your only options. Though this is just an image I found and not the one I had, especially since mine had the rear spoiler, this was what my high school ride looked like and would like to build someday, though I have to find a 73 Buick 350 to make it correct LOL. Mine was originally a V6 Esprit before the owner before me dropped the 350 into it. -
Rob, you don't have to do a save image on all your pics just to save them from Idiotbucket. Once you open an album, there is an option to download the album, so all you have to do is click that and then select where on your hard drive you want to download it to. It sometimes takes a little while, but of course I was doing some of that over the weekend when probably everyone was trying to do a mass fleeing of the sinking ship. It will save a zip compressed file when you download, and I have been saving mine under whatever album name I had there in separate folders on my external hard drive.

Photobucket Problems
highway replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The above picture is posted from Facebook, but appears as if posting pics from there to here do not like to have text with them. As soon as I tried to edit the above to add text, I got a "404 Page not found" message. -

Not Paying Photo Bucket Post Pictures
highway replied to Fast Floyd 2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just realized another horrible problem to my idea, because I actually began to try to restore the pics for one thread. I could see the pics through Photobucket after right clicking where the pic used to be in the thread, but that won't help because I forgot there would be no way to edit the post to upload and insert the pictures! -

I wasn't aware of the ad blocker problem, mainly because the ad blocker I use through my Avast Antivirus for some strange reason works on every site BUT Photobucket. -
Not Paying Photo Bucket Post Pictures
highway replied to Fast Floyd 2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I get it Bill, and there may be a solution, though it would be a huge undertaking. In Dave Ambrose's thread from earlier today, he said that by right clicking on the Photobucket symbol of greed and opening in a new tab, the pic will display through Photobucket. Also, Dave said that he removed the restrictions on how much can be uploaded through the sites uploader so that an outside hosting site is no longer needed, so it could be possible for Harry's photos to be saved by being copied from Photobucket and uploaded through the site uploader. I know this would be a huge undertaking as I said and would take more than just one person to do, but it would be an effort I would be more than happy to participate in when I can to help preserve Harry's legacy. -

highway replied to Fast Floyd 2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I cannot take credit for the pic, I didn't make it. It is just one of many that I found online. As for the rest of your statement, my mother always taught me if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all. So I'm going to keep my mouth shut, and I'm sure the naughty filter would have a field day with what I would say. Anyway, what I do or don't subscribe to and how I spend my money is frankly none of your business. Also, I would consider your last comment about the phone very close if not over the border of a political comment, which I do believe is a subject that is not to be brought up here. I wouldn't know about those phones anyway, I know how to pay a bill! -
Not Paying Photo Bucket Post Pictures
highway replied to Fast Floyd 2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have found Photobucket's new logo!!! And for anyone wanting to defend their idea of charging $400 a year for a service that other paid sites offer much cheaper or that would actually pay $400 just to be able to post a picture on a third party site. I'm currently downloading all albums to my external hard drive before I tell Photobucket where to stick their site and delete my account, an account I have used since the late 2000s. -

Not everyone has $400 to just fork over for what I consider a hostile takeover of a service many of us have been using for free for many years. If you are able to do that just to save posts on this forum and any others you may post to, that's fine, but many either have better things to do with $400 or simply can't send that just to be able to post pictures to a forum. Frankly, if I were able to pay $400 just for using a photo hosting site, Fotki would get my money because then I'd be set for 20 years! Bernard, if you go to the thread here by Dave Ambrose "Photobucket Problems" he explains a couple solutions that may help repairing your posts. I did check on the pic in your sig line, and when I did as Dave suggested and right clicked on the image and opened it in a new tab, I seen a pic of an older 60s? era (not that up on old drag cars LOL) rail dragster. I too have many threads here and years of use of Idiotbucket, so I know repairing every thread may be next to impossible to fix, but at least this may help on newer or in progress threads you may have currently. At least using the right click advise Dave gave, you will at least know what the pictures were and either move them here as Dave also suggested or to a new hosting site. -
I just created an Imgur account, only one pic uploaded to it and it's already much better (and easier) than Idiotbucket!!

I tried using Google Photos on my Google account, all I could find to share is a link that just shows as a link in the thread. I created an account on Imgur, and it will so the image. -
Yep, same here.

This is just ridiculous, in my opinion Photobucket has just run themselves out of business and is nothing now but a flaming plane crash on a mountainside, and they flew the plane into the mountain! I've used Photobucket for many years, ever since I had become active on this and other modeling forums around the interwebs, but between slow uploading to post pics and the bombardment of ads even my ad blocker would not block (and that is the only site I do see ads) and now this, I'm finished with Photobucket! If any photo hosting site gets money from me just to post pics to forums, it will be Fotki for the free trial account I opened a little over a month ago after getting fed up with one of Photobucket's ad bombardments that took up so much screen space that I couldn't see anything but ads! Fotki's cheapest plan, which offers 100GB of storage like Photobucket's $100 plan that still will not allow photo posting, is less than $20 a year. Fotki's plan is 1/5th the price, equal storage, and DOES ALLOW PHOTO POSTING TO FORUMS!!! Even Fotki's most expensive personal plan is $6.17 a month, or about $75 a year and offers 1TB of storage, which is between 1/5th and 1/6th the price the idiots at Photobucket want for HALF THE STORAGE!

So it will be the one in this pic??? Good to hear if it is, because I prefer this kit much more than any other 3rd Gen Camaro or Trans Am from MPC/AMT.

Italeri 1/24 Volvo VN 780
highway replied to weirich1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
You aren't the only one old and stubborn!!! As a driver, I don't like super singles at all and won't drive a truck with them not only for the safety factor of being stuck on the side of the road and not able to get to an exit ramp like I can with duals but they seem to me to ride much differently as well. I drove a couple tractors from a factory to a terminal for one company I worked for while waiting for a truck assignment, and the ones that had super singles seemed to ride much rougher and also wander on the road more than the same tractors I drove from the factory with duals. -
Jeremy, if you have a way you could print the decals or if someone here could print a set for you, I have the "Warbird" version and could scan them for you. I wish I could do more than just offer you the scan, but I am a Trans Am lover and finding the "Trans Am" names are near impossible in newer kits. Since you did mention specifically the "Bandit" though, you might be better off getting this kit: Though you would still have to source the "Trans Am" names for the front fenders, nose, and rear spoiler, it would give you everything else you need down to the correct licence plates for the "Bandit" and has the correct "Hurst" T-Tops that the 78 does not have as well as the correct automatic transmission. The only real downfall of this kit is that it has four screws to attach the chassis to the body, but other than that seems to be about the same level of detail as the 1/24th scale 78. One last suggestion would be this "Blackbird" from MPC, it also has the correct "Hurst" T-Tops and DOES include all the "Trans Am" scripts! This issue I have was reissued in the maybe about 10 years ago, and while I've personally not ever been a fan of the older MPC Trans Ams compared to the Monogram kit, it does have all the markings you'd need to make the "Bandit" except for the licence plates.

Yes, Lindberg did one of the trucks (99.9% sure it was the Toyota) as a "Baywatch" version. -
Datsun Monster Tow Truck
highway replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mike, while the Datsun kit has the appearance of a Holmes wrecker unit as in this box art pic it still does not appear to be close to the closest style of boom that I could find in a Google image search. Honestly in my opinion, if you want to build a correct light duty wrecker, I suggest the GMC from Revell. It appears other than an older version from the late 70s or early 80s from Revell called the "Capt. Hook", Holmes also called theirs "Capt. Hook". You could also modify the GMC kit's bed to make one like this with a little scratchbuilding. The old Revell "Midnight Cowboy" also has a bed like this one, though the boom is slightly different. I'm not knocking the Datsun in any way, because I don't have the kit yet, but I think the GMC or a Cowboy bed would be a much better starting point if you want a regular light duty tow truck. -
You're welcome Chris, and what you found online was exactly what I meant by permits making all the federal guidelines go out the window! As for the wheel size being a factor, I don't know able that either but since you did mention the manufacture rating, it could have an influence in the GAWR (gross axle weight rating) and the GVWR that the truck as the manufacture equipped it, but that still doesn't make a difference in the state or federal guidelines for allowable weights. The manufacture specs are different depending on how the truck is equipped, a vocational truck such as a dump truck, garbage truck, or a tractor built for heavy hauling is built with much heavier duty components than an over the road truck would be.
-
This may or may not help Chris, but by federal regulations the maximum weight is 80,000 pounds for a regular 5 axle tractor trailer with a breakdown like this: Steering axle=12,000 lbs Tandem drive axles=34,000 lbs Trailer tandem axles=34,000 lbs Trailer tandem spread axles=40,000 lbs but total GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) still cannot exceed 80,000 lbs That is the rules for federal interstate over the road trucks, but there are also state regulations that muddy the waters so to speak, but the max I would say a three axle truck could weigh would be more around the 50,000 lb range with a steering axle with wider "float" tires, which I believe may raise the max steer axle weight to 17,000 lbs. Other than the wider float steering tires, tire size doesn't have a difference in the allowable weights. The common size for wheels today are 22.5 rims, though 24.5 are still used, but the biggest difference is the sidewall height, which is why the tires for 22.5 rims are commonly called "Lo Pros" because of a lower sidewall profile than the "tall rubber" 24.5s. You could still build a dump truck with three axles, but at least most in my area in the WV, OH, and PA region near Pittsburgh hauling coal usually have at least one liftable "tag" axle and more commonly two or three tags, making them 5 or 6 axle trucks. 5 axle 6 axle The lift axles add 17,000 lbs to the gross weight, so one added to a 3 axle dump truck with a steering axle with the wider float steer tires (like the 5 axle Peterbilt has) would give the truck a 68,000 lb GVWR. Hopefully this helps you some, but those are the easiest examples using the federal guidelines. Everything can vary state to state, and permits to haul heavier can throw everything out the window!
