Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
highway replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very well said!!! Other than the "I'm helping Revell by buying a kit" posts, the other ones that I'm finding quite humorous are the numerous "Round 2 should buy Revell" posts. First, if that would happen, it would make Round 2 a monopoly in the US, which isn't allowed the last time I checked. Also, most of the same saying Round 2 should buy Revell would be the same that would criticize Round 2 for all the reissue kits they put out, because other than the latest full detail Camaro and all of it's various versions and maybe a few of the "Showroom Replicas" curbside kits, Round 2 hasn't put out much of anything BUT reissues. -
Thanks, though she's a little rougher now since the pic is about 10 years old. The gap is indeed from it being born as a chassis cab, but the previous owner but the regular bed on it. It's got the 7.3 L non turbo diesel under the hood. It was the engine just prior to the introduction of the 7.3 Powerstroke turbo engine.

One, maybe because they are nothing more than the "street" "custom" rear Goodyear G/T Radials that came in every 3 in 1 Monogram (remember, the first issues of these trucks were a Monogram kit) car kit that offered the stock, street, and drag building versions. Two, maybe because the tires used on the real 1:1 trucks are very undersized as well! This is my 1990 F350 dually with the LT 235/85/16s that is the factory size for the truck, and though mine is a heavy duty equipped 4x4, they barely even need a wheel well on my truck!

MCRC's 73' El Camino review?
highway replied to Sergey's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The first topic does have a pic of the El Camino and what it comes with, but the second of the build of the 76 is worthless thanks to Photobucket! I don't have the El Camino, but I do have MCRC's 72 Ford Ranchero and it was worth every penny! I had bought this off of Jeff (if I remember correctly) at a local show they were vending at, and also picked up the resin Ford 351 Cleveland by Scale Modeling by Chris to go under the hood. -
Yes, but I do believe an actual engine in this is necessary, which this kit does not have. I'm not trying to start anything but the lack of an engine and not fitting the rules is why I'm still searching through my stash to find something to enter and my 850 is remaining on the shelf.

1/25 AMT Kenworth/Challenge Transit Mixer
highway replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
They may possibly be just that, because there are also rims above the mixer half on the right, and also appears to be two other wheel pieces off to the left of the tires. I also noticed in the two pics under this pic in your original post there are four more of the Webb style wheels on the chrome that is what the box art shows in addition to the Alcoa aluminum wheels in the other two chrome sprues and non chromed inner wheels in the bagged parts that appear to be from the standard W925 kit. Anyone else notice the fifth wheel??? -
Whats the weirdest kit in your stash?
highway replied to mustang1989's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I, for one, would love to have one since I'm into strange and unusual subjects. As for your question of if this is in a railroad scale, being a model railroader as well, it is not. The most common scales in model railroading, when it comes to layouts anyway, are: O gauge 1/48th scale HO gauge 1/87th scale N gauge 1/160th scale A couple other somewhat common scales, though not quite as popular as the three above, are G Gauge 1/22.5th scale, though it sometimes depends on manufacturer and can range from 1/20th to 1/32nd scale S Gauge 1/64th scale Z scale 1/220th scale Even though I don't really consider this "weird", it is how sometimes my model railroading combines with my car modeling. This is an N scale tow truck I picked up only because it was something that appealed to me because everything I have in my model railroad collection is HO scale. -
1/25 AMT Kenworth/Challenge Transit Mixer
highway replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for the added info as I forgot there were the Autocar and Mack mixers also. -
As you said Bill, I think since at least this newest issue is a drawing (as probably the Texaco issue as well) and not a pic of the model, the vent window is just the artist's error assuming since it is an old pickup it should have a vent window. I'm guessing it is the artist either not knowing the subject or incorrect reference, though even using the previously issued stock versions of this kit should have been reference enough to get the box art drawings correct for the year of the truck.

1/25 AMT Kenworth/Challenge Transit Mixer
highway replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
That actually is a very good question Jim, because I know most modern mixers I've been around run a spring suspension just like the Hendrickson in the later issues of the W925 kit. Now to throw another question into the mix (pun intended ) with Jim's, if the Hendrickson suspension would be a more viable and correct suspension to use under a mixer, what are the differences (if any) between the Challenge mixer in this kit and the mixer in the International Paystar kit? I'm sure y'all can see where I'm going with this if the mixer bodies would be the same between the two kits or even if they aren't the same body it would be a way for us that have never had the original Challenge mixer kit to have one without kitbashing the W925 and the Paystar mixer......take the mixer parts from the Paystar and mix (again pun intended ) with the W925 and BOOM.....Kenworth mixer kit! Yes, it may not be the original, but at least it would be an option for all of us that would like to have one in the fleet. -
They still are, Salt Lake City to be exact.

Chevrolet Van/Medium Duty Chassis Cab
highway replied to Fabrux's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Using image searches for G30s, C70s, and Class C motorhomes, and Dan's countless pics of the Topkick and Kodiak, is this what you are describing? If so, as Dan's pics show, the Topkick and Kodiak are medium duty trucks and not the G30 van and chassis. The older models of the Topkick and Kodiak had the same cabs as the C/K line of full size trucks, though it does like as if the newer ones like the one labeled as a 2008 that Dan posted and the motorhome I posted does appear to share the cab of a G series van, because this G30 van chassis cab motorhome seems to have the same cab with the normal van front end. Other than that, the only other thing I could find that was a G30 van chassis cab with a tilt hood was this, and I'm sure glad I haven't eaten recently! -
What would YOU like to see as a model
highway replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't really think it would be as much civilian vs. military as to the openmindedness of the builder themselves. I'm sure I'm not the only one that notices the countless "I'd buy it if it was 1/25th scale" comments even on subjects that are done in 1/24th scale. -
My bad, I misunderstood! I thought you were meaning just in the cars. They weren't bad in the Astro either, my mom had a 90 with the 4.3L and that was what I learned to drive in. I could even get it to chirp the tires before the AWD started taking over!

Of course Molotow isn't going to suggest ANOTHER COMPANY'S PRODUCT, any idiot could figure out that wouldn't be smart especially when the other company also offers paintable chrome products! Before more bovine exhaust gets released, the 4th post on the first page of this thread from someone who knows what he is talking about says just the opposite:
-
And if you check a little more, the 4.3L WAS AVAILABLE in the C/K pickup line. http://consumerguide.com/used/1990-98-chevrolet-ck-pickup/

Freightliner COE Questions

I used Model Master USSR Fulcrum Gray/Green to hopefully get close to Detroit Green, and at least to my eyes, it is at least close.- 114 replies

Freightliner COE Questions
highway replied to TheSDTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My guess, and this is only a guess when it comes to Freightliner COEs because the only cabover I have ever driven was an International, but I would say it is probably an oil dipstick access door. Most cabovers have a door somewhere like that in various positions so you don't have to tilt the cab just to check the oil.- 114 replies

Freightliner COE Questions
highway replied to TheSDTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The easiest way to extend the driveshaft would be find a piece of plastic, brass, or aluminum tubing that would slide over the kit driveshaft and cut the tubing to the new length you need. You shouldn't really need to do anything to the radiator other than maybe to the shroud depending on how the fan fits or moving it just a bit.- 114 replies

The rarest AMT truck model?
highway replied to Mr mopar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There were actually four kits, the Bandag Bandit's hauler like the Papa Truck called the Hideout Truck was also done as a kit. The main reason there are so many Papa Trucks and Super Bosses available is because of the reissues, the Bandit and Hideout haven't been reissued yet. I thought when the first two came back, the Bandit and Hideout Truck were also supposed to be reissued as well, but I thought they were scheduled for last year and never seen them. -
Wow, where did it say he didn't have the time to read it!?!?
-
Unless this reissue has the turbo and Syclone correct intake plenum, just having a 4.3L does NOT make it a Syclone engine. The 4.3L was used in everything from the S series trucks to the Astro minivan, and also if I remember correctly even in the full size base model V6 powered pickups and vans.

The rarest AMT truck model?
highway replied to Mr mopar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh definitely! I know I've seen many complain about reissues, and some that seem to be out constantly I can understand, but some of the more recent not only with trucks but cars as well have allowed my stash (and I'm sure many others) grow by leaps and bounds! There have been some like the 1/16th scale Aerodyne I had as a kid and lost the originals in a house fire in 1997 that I wanted back but just couldn't justify paying the "collector's" price for them, and others like the Super Boss and Papa Truck that when they were released I hadn't started building yet. There are some of the others that the last time they seen the light of day was long before I seen the light of day LOL! -
The rarest AMT truck model?

Yes, and it just doesn't extend to AMT and kits like the Papa Truck and Super Boss among others that they have knocked the dust off the molds to. Another good example is the old Monogram 1/16th scale trucks, the Kenworth Aerodyne I had as a kid I got when the reissues came out and just in the last month I picked up an original issue of the flat top sleeper version and an original flatbed kit. Since for some reason Revell wasn't smart enough to bring back the trailer, I still had to pay a decent amount for the flatbed, but still what I have in all three kits is still much less than just one of the tractor kits were selling for before the reissues.
