For me, it is just coming up with a build idea. I thought that too until I started digging through my stash. I was surprised by the amount of kits I had that I didn't even know had an inline engine in them.

What kind of builder are you?

On some older Petes and KWs I believe, they painted the engines white no matter the manufacturer. There are a few threads in the truck section going into detail on the white engines in Peterbilts, but as for all the Cummins engines in kits anyway are a sand beige to be correct. Newer versions on Cummins are either black or red, but other than some resin versions there are no newer versions of these engines in any kits that I'm aware of. Yellow is for Caterpillar I'm not saying that a custom truck couldn't have a custom painted engine, but for stock these are the colors. Other than a custom, about the only other way you would see a yellow Cummins engine is for the ones that have built out of the box for the Can Do wrecker and been painted Cat Yellow to make the incorrect Cummins in the kit appear to be the correct Cat engine that was in the real truck.

Freightliner COE Questions
highway replied to TheSDTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've never heard of that, and still just pulling the yellow valve and holding your thumb on the red still only applies the tractor brakes.- 114 replies

I really hope you don't feel the same way about the trucks that bring your groceries to the store, but if you do I'm sure you would change your mind when you have nothing to eat. One plus though, you wouldn't have to worry about the roads being so "trucky" because you wouldn't have any gas to be on the road anyway.

I don't think it is a factor of "rah-rah"-ing as it is not just filling up the threads on this or any new offering with the negative type comments like "If it was stock I'd buy it" or "Why a NASCAR, I hate NASCAR" or even "I only build 32 Fords so why should I care about this" or however one may want to express their disinterest in this kit. I'm not saying that no one isn't allowed to voice their opinion, but it just seems more and more there are many more negative comments about new offerings regardless of the manufacture than positive, and also seems that more any more many also can't look past the subject matter and actually look at the kit itself. I have many kits in my stash that may not even fit into any portion of my interests, but after seeing a review of the kit or maybe seeing the kit at a friends house and looking though it or even seeing a build thread here, even though I might have little interest in the subject the kit alone was enough to change my mind.

Freightliner COE Questions
highway replied to TheSDTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do have to agree, but not sure how being a division of Freightliner now will be for them in the quality department. I've driven many a Freightliner and love the old school trucks, but the new ones can't hold a candle to the old ones.- 114 replies

Revell '70 Pontiac Firebird 2'n1 1/24

That was why the 80 just recently showed up in my collection, and for a price that should have me in handcuffs! -
Revell '70 Pontiac Firebird 2'n1 1/24
highway replied to KT EASTMAN's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I don't know about this supposed "backdating" or even how correct that information is, because I just went through all my Monogram (REMINDER: the Revell IS the old MONOGRAM 78 Trans Am known in one of its issues as the "Warbird") 2nd gen Trans Ams and found ALL VERSIONS share common parts. Yes, comparing the Turbo to the 70, it does share much more such as the engine moldings that do differ from the 78, but all versions share the same frame (though the 70 is shortened compared to the other two with no rear frame crossmember) and also the same basic interior tub. The seats in the 70 are different as is the molded in detail in the rear seat in the tub but the seats in the 78 and 80 are an exact match, and strangely the 78 has a molded in clutch pedal where the 70 and 80 has just the molded in gas pedal and incorrect brake pedal (since those kits DO have automatics compared to the 78 manual) but the 78 still has the incorrect automatic console and automatic shifter also found in the other two kits. The bodies all share the same underhood detail, and comparing the 78 and 80 bodies they appear to be the same. As I said, I don't know if the "backdating" story for the 80 to the 70 is correct or not, because regardless the body for the 70 would have meant retooling the entire back half of the 80 since the 70 has a smaller rear window and entirely different rear panel and front panel as well as hood, so I'm thinking with the changes maybe a "modified reissue" might be a more likely story. That said, since the 80 ALSO shares many parts with the 78 and all that would be needed to make a modified reissue "update" of the 78 to the 80 Turbo would be the pieces of the molds for the nose, rear panel/bumper, hood, and the parts for the turbo and wheels. Everything else is shared in the 70 and 78, and even another version of the 80 could be done as a 79 using either engine, the hood, and shaker from the 78 and for that version only the nose and rear panel/bumper for the 80 would be needed. -
That is a nice site Steve! I've always had a soft spot for screaming chickens LOL!

Freightliner COE Questions

I'm guessing you mean on the Ford since that is the only pic with a cab in it?? It is supplied in the Italeri Ford LTL9000 and also the Itaerli Ford Aeromax kits since both share the same cab. As far as I know, it also is not a Lund visor, Ford used these on pretty much all of their heavy trucks.- 114 replies

I believe you may have that backwards, the 77 had the honeycomb grille and the 78 had the diamond shaped grille. I zoomed in on both grilles, and the 77 is one from Universal Pictures from Barrett Jackson. I could not copy the Barrett Jackson pic with the info on the car, but hopefully the link for it with the info lacking on the pic I could copy will take you to the original pic with the information included.

For some, if it isn't something that interests them or above the price of a normal kit, they just think it is a waste of plastic. Myself, I like the fact it's something different, and the ones that already are putting it down means that there will just be more for those that are interested in older NASCAR.

Or maybe the forum does! It seems like a few are having problems today, I just seen another post where someone says the forum says he's not allowed to view HIS OWN THREAD! I had a small issue earlier too today when I was going to post two pics in a thread, one would upload fine but the other kept saying "Upload Failed".

Testors brush paint
highway replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You should do that regardless of the brand before each use because the pigments settle to the bottom. I have always shook mine before every use, and for many years I have BBs that I put in every new jar that acts the same at stirring the paint just like when you shake a rattle can before spraying it. -
missing versions in kits
highway replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think it would be even more logical for there to be a 426 Hemi to match all the racing decals they waste ink on when the kit has a 440! -
I'm not trying to be insulting with this question because I had a compression fracture to my L1 in Dec 2011, but how could you not know for 10 years?? I walked around for a month not knowing I broke mine before I finally went to the hospital, and the only reason I did go to the hospital was because I couldn't stand the pain anymore.

What would YOU like to see as a model
highway replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very true, and as Steve said, there isn't much in this thread that even raises my eyebrow. The main factor is that just because one person says "I want a Blanky Blank Sportster", it doesn't mean EVERYONE wants one. -
Revell's "new" Jeep & Snowmachine kit
highway replied to stavanzer's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Geez, can't someone make a mistake!?!? If I do remember in one of Casey's posts, I believe he had also stated he wasn't sure if the parts were chromed from Revell or that they may have been plated by an aftermarket chromer. -
Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
highway replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Unless you buy that new kit, as John said in his statement, DIRECTLY FROM HOBBICO, you yourself are NOT paying Hobbico for the kit but the hobby shop you are purchasing it from. This is an example: I own XYZ Hobbies in your hometown. I order 12 Ice Patrol Jeeps from Great Planes Distributors (since they also are a Hobbico branch) for my store. I pay them for the kits to have them on the shelf. You then come in to the store and buy an Ice Patrol Jeep and some supplies and pay me for the kit. Your money is paying me back for what I already paid Hobbico and a slight markup so I can keep the doors open for you. Whether it is a brand new issue kit or one that has been sitting on the hobby shop shelf for a year or two like a Revell Bronco for example, Hobbico has already been paid by the shop owner by the time it gets into your hands.
