I'm a little late to the party here, but first off DO NOT look for the first release if you are planning to build the truck, GET THE REISSUE!!!!! The reason I say this is because I had this original issue that I started to use to build this rig once the reissues were announced and it was the biggest mistake I could have ever made!! As you will see in the next pic of the bare frame, and can also see some in the box pic at least with this kit, most of the kit other than the cab and frame rails were molded in a yellowish plastic and it proved to be very brittle with the almost 35 year age of the kit. The cab hinges were the first to go, as was countless other parts including a part of the lower cab corner by the grille which was also molded in the yellowish plastic. Needless to say, this never got much past the stage it is in with the pic of the painted cab and trailer because I got tired of fighting the brittle plastic and the cab will be rebuilt using one of my reissues. I do hope the pic of the frame you wanted finally does help you, and the wheels are 10 hole Alcoas in the kit, though I used a Moebius wheel and tire set for mine because the chrome in that original kit was not very good.

"Too Many '69 Camaros and '32 Fords!"
highway replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was also issued by AMT, though I do believe this was during the time AMT also had the Polar Lights name. I did not know until I dug this out of the stash that it is in fact a snapper, though ironically it came with glue and paint! It is a full detail kit with engine although it is a snapper. -
It all depends on the condition, this one is still factory sealed and lets just say I paid around the price of a current issue kit for it!

This is what the mailman brought to me yesterday, wins from a live auction group I'm in on Facebook, and all of the older kits in the front are all still factory sealed originals. The Type K Sportwagon is one of my "Holy Grail" kits!

Engine in Ford LTL 9000?
highway replied to PierreR89's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, if Pierre was referring to this kit or the newer wrecker version, this is way before the Aeromax came to be and could be anywhere from a late 70s to 80s era truck before electronic engines. As Brian mentioned earlier, a glider could use any type of power unit you would wish to put under the hood Pierre, as I have toyed around with a few different possibilities for mine. Detroit Series 60 from the Italeri Petes Cat 3406 from the Revell Pete 359 snaps Or for the wild and crazy, the Detroit 12V71T from the AMT Super Boss! -
Revell Kenworth K100 Aerodyne - 2017 release
highway replied to steve1970's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
You're welcome! The Papa Truck also is good for a custom look for a tractor too. I used a spare fifth wheel on this one for a custom I'm building. -
I just recently picked up the dually version, as well as a few other goodies!

Revell Kenworth K100 Aerodyne - 2017 release
highway replied to steve1970's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Honestly in my opinion Jeff, I would use the "Papa Truck" if you want to build a K100 wrecker since it already has a stretched frame for the hauler bed. -
Highway thru Hell
highway replied to dieseldawg142's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you have Netflix, they have "Highway Thru Hell" and another similar Discovery Canada show called "Heavy Rescue: 401" there. The Weather Channel carried the show through season 4, but they have never carried it past that, the only way I got to see the 5th season was thanks to Netflix. I did just check, Netflix does not have any of the season 6 episodes yet, they may have to wait until the season ends to carry them. -
Moebius Trailers
highway replied to Madd Trucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hope this isn't true either, and if so it is a very dumb move on Moebius' part in my opinion! It seems as if everyone here has at least one of each style and probably more than that. I know personally I have 3 of each, and if this is true I'm going to go scarf up all of the at least 8 to 10 more I know are sitting on shelves at various shops in my area! As for more Intertrashinals, if Moebius is not finished in the Class 8 market I would rather see more modern equipment from Freightliner, Peterbilt, and Kenworth instead. Don't get me wrong, the Lonestar is a nice truck and the Prostar was a no brainer since it shares mostly everything but the hood with the Lonestar, but the only one of the two I bought was the Lonestar. The Prostar never appealed to me mainly because I don't build fleet style trucks unless it is something I have actually driven and the only reason I would like to see a Freightliner Cascadia to build my current fleet ride. -
Thanks Marty, and especially with a Hemi Orange Mopar! Even though I bleed Ford Blue, I've always loved the Mopar High Impact colors and I have two of the AMT Challenger kits that will get High Impact colors as well. Thank you guys!

This was a too long on the back burner build that finally hit the finished column after being started about 7 years ago. The paint is Testor's Custom Lacquer System Hemi Orange. I had a few issues with parts fitting, mainly the headlight lenses (which my Carpet Monster feasted on one and the reason for the tinted headlights and taillight) and obviously there is something keeping the hood from fitting properly.

Inches to scale conversion help needed
highway replied to DrKerry's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Other than the great help most have already given you Kerry, there is one addition no one mentioned. Though the measurement that you needed was already in inches, just in case you would need to find out what something measured in feet would be, don't forget to convert it to inches first for the measurement. A good example would be making a 48' trailer in 1/25th scale and this is how I find out the measurement. 48 feet X 12 = 576 inches Then just follow the others advice for what it would be in scale. 576 divided by 25 = 23.04 inches in scale. -
I checked that out, and the instructions are the same style as what is in the KW and also seen another from the same seller. I would say mine was very well bought compared to the prices of those two!

Thanks Mark! I never had seen it either Mike. I'm not really sure, but seeing as how it is a 1/28th scale (the reason I got the Testors trailer to go with it) and definitely a Japanese kit with instructions mostly in Japanese and the early Japanese kit features like an option to motorize it, I would guess it may be an IMAI original. It also has the options to light it as well. Thanks for pointing out the gun rack in the Chevy, I honestly didn't even notice that, I just wanted a 4x4 Stepside again!

I bought some kits in a live Facebook auction group Saturday, and since the seller didn't live too far from me I asked if I could pick them up. He said that was fine and that I could look through everything else he had for sale, and it's a good thing I took extra money! The first 5 are the auction wins, the second is everything else that followed me home, including the tote in the third pic that is nothing but assorted semi parts that I'll have to organize and at least three bagged trailer kits that appear to be complete.

At least when it comes to the trucks, most of those have just been recently released in some form. The Alaskan Hauler is just a modified version of the standard Revell of Germany Pete 359 kit, which is also the base kit for the Peterbilt wrecker that was out not long ago. The only difference between the standard 359 kit and the tri drive versions are a frame extension to add the third drive axle, of course the third drive axle and associated pieces, and the squared off front fenders and larger front bumper. All those parts are on separate sprues just added to the stock 359 kit, because this build I started of a custom bull hauler started life as the Alaskan kit but without the Alaskan parts, and an extension to the frame using a section of the unused standard frame rails from my original Can Do wrecker. As for the KW heavy hauler and Oriental Express versions though I have never had those, I'm sure they would be just as the tri drive Petes are with the added frame extension and third axle pieces just added to the base kit. That base kit was just reissued and the aerodyne version of that base kit is supposed to be out soon if it isn't already, so it shouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that Revell couldn't add the tri drive parts.

Found an alternative solution
highway replied to Iroc crazy's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
There is a very simple solution for the price just as I did to purchase mine, Hobby Lobby's 40% off coupon! That knock the price down to right around $40, and a cruise through the clearance section also yielded the two choppers at a little over $9 a piece, two for less than the $27 msrp of one! -
Although that has been reissued not too long ago, when it comes to the International Paystar Logger the Roadrunner trailer in it is different than the trailer only kit. I didn't know about this until I was talking to a friend from a model group on Facebook, but the beam is two pieces (top and bottom) and the beam is also thicker for the Roadrunner trailer offered in the Paystar Logger while the trailer only kit is split into four pieces (front and back top and bottoms) and the beam is not as thick. The beam from the Paystar Logger is on the right and the trailer only kit's beam is on the left.

If I remember correctly, the Cali Hauler was just reissued within the past year or two. I was just looking at it at a LHS a week or two ago.
-
You are correct Brian, it was said the W900 molds were destroyed when it was converted to the T600A.

Recommended Detroit Diesel Green?
highway replied to Dieselhead's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used Model Master USSR Fulcrum Gray/Green on this Detroit, pretty close to my eyes at least for older Detroits like a few Series 60s I had driven. -
Model year id help
highway replied to 57peppershaker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Without digging through the stash to find it to see exactly what custom parts are in it, Revell did a custom version that was a stepside bed that was two wheel drive and reissued with a yellow truck on the box art. It was issued in the "Hot Rod" magazine series sometime in the late 80s or early 90s and also with a racing boat. -
1984 Honda Civic Hatchback & 2002 Honda Civic Type R
highway replied to highway's topic in Model Cars
Thank you Tom, and it already has been doing that, though I have quite a few "shelves of doom"! I originally just started with the 84 after buying it from a friend, then the 02 followed, and then a couple near completed builds of a R34 Skyline and an 09 Challenger jumped on the desk too.
