Hoist drive info needed
highway replied to gotnitro?'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This might help you Jeff. This is from Miller Industries, and if you scroll to page 107 where it says "Dual 22K Turret Drag Winches", those should be the motors (in the yellow box) you are talking about. http://www.millerind.com/images/uploads/parts/Century_HD_Options_NOV_17.pdf -
Yep, race cars and police cars are a given for many multiples. I've got probably over a dozen of the 90s NASCAR Monte Carlo to build the various paint schemes and special paint schemes Dale Earnhardt SR ran over the years. The same goes for the Lindberg Crown Victoria police car, though I have to catch up on decals to go with the kits.

Exactly Rob!!! This was a few years ago, but all three of these Meng F350s came home at the same time and now I have five of them. All five I have plans for different versions, and some of my ideas require some major surgery!

Highway thru Hell
highway replied to dieseldawg142's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Kenworth in this picture is still somewhat easy to get. Also it's not that hard to scratchbuild most wrecker beds or booms, some flat plastic for the body and a mixture of a few different sizes of square and round tubing will make the boom and hydraulics. Once I get started on my Kenworth, I'm going to scratchbuild an axle lift for it since it has a hole for one in the back of the bed but none to fill it. -
Thank you for the response Dave, and it is nice to hear that even though no new tractor is in the works as of now, there are still plans for future items in your big rig segment. As Richard had also commented, even some different vintage rigs could be a possibility and one that comes to the top of my head that could possibly even use some common parts out of the Lonestar/Prostar molds is the older International 9900ix. I have tons of other ideas of other modern and older rigs also and if you'd like some added help and input from a builder and driver of the big rigs, please feel free to PM me as I would like to help but also to avoid offending any more builders that are focused just on the car portion of the hobby.

WOW, the narrowmindedness (or mindlessness) of some here blows my mind!! It has nothing to do with feeling under appreciated either, though it highly irritates me that for 20 years I've spent my life making sure that the ignorant masses that think that everything appears on store shelves because of little magical fairies have food on their tables!! I also don't see where you get off saying I was getting upset because I DID SAY even though nothing in Moebius' car line interests me, I know there are those that they do. I also build cars too, in fact 80% of my collection is cars and pickups, and the rest is a mix of big rigs, planes, ships, space craft, and military. This is called DIVERSITY, a term that obviously is not in many vocabularies since I keep seeing the same prejudice stating this is the "CAR" section! Oh, and if you can notice, the key word in your last statement is not "CAR", but "MODEL" As much as you may not like the fact, everyone here regardless of any specific interests have one thing in common, building MODELS!!!
-
That's your opinion and you're entitled to it just as I'm entitled to have my opinion. It makes no difference if this is in the "car" section or not, if you really want to be that prejudiced about it, any talk of the Ford pickup should be there too since the pickup section is in the "truck" section too! This topic is also about Moebius since both of these kits, however boring their car line of models may be to me, are new releases from them and just voicing my opinion that me and many other truck modelers would like to see some more new offerings from them too. I have no problem with their new kits though they have no interest to me, but not being narrowminded like it seems you are, I realize that there are builders that are happy with the car kits they have on offer. I've not implied or would never imply that Moebius needs to just do kits for truck modelers, it would just be nice for them to offer us some new issue kits as well and show truck modelers some love again, especially since there has been countless issues and modified reissues geared to car modelers since their first original issue of the Hudson Hornet years ago but only two new big rig issues (International Lonestar and Great Dane 53 foot trailer) and two modified reissues (International Prostar and Great Dane 53 foot Smoothside trailer) and one parts pack of wheels and tires for big rigs over the past 10 years. Oh, and if big rigs bore the snot out of you, consider this. Everything you own, including all of your precious car kits and the gas in your car that gets you to the hobby shop to buy them, comes to you thanks to THOSE BORING BIG RIGS AND DRIVERS LIKE ME THAT DRIVE THOSE BORING BIG RIGS AND SPEND TIME AWAY FROM OUR FAMILY, FRIENDS, HOME, AND HOBBIES SO INCONSIDERATE BEINGS LIKE YOU CAN HAVE EVERYTHING YOU TAKE FOR GRANTED IN EVERYDAY LIFE!!

As I've stated in the new thread on this same subject started today, I would rather see something new in the big rig line up from Moebius. The only car Moebius has produced that remotely has any interest for me was the original issue of the Hudson Hornet, and that is the only Moebius car kit in my collection, everything else in the car lineup is boring to me. Their big rig kits I have multiples of each of them.
-
Yes we are unfortunately Anthony, but I would be much more inclined to purchase a new modern truck or trailer by the case than I would any of the boredom that Moebius has been putting out otherwise. The only non big rig subject I have bought that Moebius has produced is the original issue of the Hudson Hornet because it has been the only car kit that they have issued that I have even a slight interest in. A little breakdown by the numbers just to show others that think the big rig builders shouldn't deserve a little of the new subject pie as well, here is a little example of how I have spent my money when it comes to Moebius kits: 1 x Hudson Hornet approximately $20 2 x International Lonestar approximately $50 each 2 x Great Dane Smoothside 53 foot trailers approximately $50 each 3 x Great Dane 53 foot trailers approximately $50 each 4 x Big Rig Wheel & Tire set approximately $15 each Hmmmmm......over $400 in Moebius' big rig offerings compared to $20 for the one car kit of theirs I have....that should prove what Moebius needs to have more of to get my money. Also, other than big rigs I do build cars as well, but nothing Moebius has produced since the Hornet are subjects I have absolutely no interest in!

This sort of goes with what Brian asked, but I'm just curious why you couldn't use the Revell K100 flat top for this? I know you have much more knowledge than me on those old KWs, and you always do outstanding work on them!

Highway thru Hell
highway replied to dieseldawg142's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm sorry to say, but it IS the beginning of the end for the show unfortunately. My girlfriend was Googling info on the show one night to try to find out when those of us that aren't north of the border might be able to see it on Netflix, and she ran across a story from Discovery Canada that stated ideas for a 7th season have been cancelled. So enjoy the show while you can, because it will be going by the wayside. Also, it should be no big surprise that Al and Gord take their big green machines up to the Coke, because Al's son does run plow for the VSA. I think it was the season or two after Al because a major part of the show that they even had his son in the plow doing a rolling interview in one of the episodes. -

*Outrageous Prices 1973-1974 Road Runner*
highway replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Do you even know the origin of this build?? It started out much like anything Steve Darnell builds at his shop Welderup, a pretty much worthless body shell rotting away in the desert of Nevada. I could see if it was a complete, numbers matching car, but it was far from that. -
ford bronco by revell 1966 to 77
highway replied to bubbaman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for posting that link Jordan, and I know for sure they were available red with the white top because my mother used to have one. That Bronco was kind of famous in our family history and more for a family picture because on the way home from school for the family picture, my older brother had rolled it less than a mile from the house! How everyone still managed to have a smile on their faces is beyond me!!! -
MPC 1975 Datsun Pickup 3n1 Kit Parts Review
highway replied to hpiguy's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
By the look of the treads in this pic, the other tires have more of a GT Radial tread pattern than the ones that are supposed to be the GT Radial do. -
I seem to not only have an addiction to plastic, but to the live auction group I belong to on Facebook as well!! These came in Friday from my latest winning bids. All of these are open kits other than the NASCARS and the Ford Courier, and I'm quite impressed by the IMC kits considering they are older than I am! Even though I haven't taken the time to inspect the parts and level of detail they have yet, just looking through the instructions for both seem to make me think these will be nice builds. I'm really impressed with the GT40, especially since with opening front and rear panels plus opening doors what seems to be a very detailed chassis it appears as if it will be a better kit than the Revell/Fujimi GT40 kit I have. The 49 Ford and Merc came as a package deal, I already have two of the Mercs but I never got a Ford for some reason. The six wheeler is a builder too, the rear axle shaft for snapping on one side of the rear tires is broken, but since I noticed that the main parts of the cab and chassis are shared with the recently reissued GMC wrecker that made that no problem. I'll just steal an axle from one of my parts wrecker kits.

"Holy Grail" Models?
highway replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have actually had some luck getting a couple of my "Holy Grail" kits that were on the top of my list but just couldn't justify paying the collector prices the kits were going for on eBay thanks to recent reissues. The highest on that list was the kit that got me started in the hobby over 30 years ago, the MPC 1/16th scale General Lee. Another was the first big rig I ever built as a kid, Monogram's 1/16th scale Kenworth Aerodyne. The biggest one that was on my list until just a few weeks ago when I was lucky enough to win it in a live auction group I'm in on Facebook was concept Pontiac Trans Am Type K "Kammbach" sport wagon that I had been trying to replace from losing my original (and the other two previous also) in a house fire in 1997. The old saying "lightning doesn't strike twice" is untrue in this case too, because not only did I win the factory sealed kit, but a week later in the same auction group the same seller I bought the sealed kit from also had a nearly complete builder kit as well so it found its way to me too. Now I can keep the sealed one sealed and also build it again too! The only kit, though still a "Holy Grail" but not quite as high on the list as these three were, is a 74-76 Trans Am. I also had one of them back in the days before losing my first collection in the fire when I had at least one kit of every different body and/or bumper style of Trans Ams and Firebirds. This, even though a slight bit different, was also a "Holy Grail" that became that way because of the house fire. It took me almost 10 years to find this after the fire and meant more to me for sentimental value than any price tag could ever put on it, but it was what could be said was my first entry into the modeling hobby, the engine from my first train set that I had gotten for my first Christmas. There weren't many pieces that lived through my childhood from that original train set, but the original engine was still going strong until the fire claimed it 21 years later. I know it's not the original, but the memories make it close enough for me! -
Selling on the Forum - Poll
highway replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree, and most of the selling and auction groups I belong to there also have a "Good and Bad Traders and Sellers" list as well, and ones that can't be trusted are barred from the groups. That's your opinion, but if you don't use those, how do you know so much about what people post on there???? As for buying on pages I belong to on Facebook anyway, they are all closely monitored by the admins that run them and I know one of the main admins to the live auction group I buy the most off of personally. If someone does slip through the cracks and rips off a member of the group, they are promptly shown the door from every group the admin runs and put on the bad traders list. Also, as for selling on here, there would be no real way to police the sales just as there isn't for trading, and I've seen too many horror stories of members being taken just in trades, and just saying PayPal could be a solution isn't a solution because not everyone uses or has PayPal. -
The mailman dropped these off yesterday from my latest wins off a live auction group on Facebook, and the Trans Am Type K was in a parts box lot and makes the second find of one of my "Holy Grail" kits in as many weeks. Now I have this one to build and a sealed kit to keep on the shelf.
