Just a few thoughts on scale
highway replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh really?? If it is so problematic, then why does it also seem to be a popular scale in the parts of the world that use the metric system?? These three are just from my personal collection, all from metric using parts of the world and at least in the case of the two Airfix models (the Rolls Royce is an MPC rebox of an Airfix kit, note the "Licensed by Airfix" in the lower right hand corner of the side panel) are issues way before any computer aids as the fire truck is copyrighted 1979 and the Rolls is from around the same era. The dump truck is from Japanese manufacturer Aoshima of a Japanese truck and many truck kits I have seen like this dump truck have also been 1/32 scale. There also seems to be quite a few aircraft done by foreign manufacturers in this "problematic" 1/32nd scale. Also, just for the naysayers, here is the 1905 Rolls Royce in Airfix packaging. You might be surprised just how much in the metric world there is in 1/32 scale just by a few quick Google Image searches as I have done like "1/32nd scale Airfix" and even "1/32 scale Tamiya". -
Choosing a glue bomb..
highway replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't usually do glue bombs because knowing me, I'd probably bust it trying to disassemble it, but when I do get any they are very much often someones half started project that might be somewhat assembled and/or painted. I also don't pay for them, it's usually as someone else said earlier in the thread, they find me! Now if you find something like this...........RUN!! RUN VERY FAST!!! GET AWAY!!! That horrible mess actually found me in a LHS from some kits they had gotten from an estate or something years ago. I seen the old Monogram "Exotic Car" series box for it and had been wanting a Countach so I grabbed it off the shelf and opened the box to inspect it. Obviously the guy running the shop hadn't looked at it before putting it on the shelf because after I nearly threw up looking at it, I took it to the counter and showed it to him and thought he was going to faint! He asked me if I wanted it and I told him I did until I seen this, but then he said just take it and get it out of here, it's free and you might be able to salvage something off of it or just throw it in the garbage! -
Thank you. It's something that isn't in my normal wheelhouse though I do like Vettes, and for a price cheaper than a new kit in a hobby shop, I couldn't pass it up!

Thanks Mark. I'm not sure how much extra detailing it will get, but the Pete was the only one in the collection I didn't have. All but the Aerodyne are original releases.

Paint booth question
highway replied to Ro3bert's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Robert, I have that exact spray booth and bought mine through Walmart.com, though it was shipped directly from TCP Global, Walmart.com was more or less the middleman for the order. I think I had it in a week or less from the time I ordered it. It is a great beginning booth, but if you do larger projects, it will be tight due to the compact size. This is mine with a 1/32nd scale tanker trailer from Revell's Mack R tanker kit. Also, a few tips for it other than the limited size for large projects, the filter gets quite unhappy with spray cans and it will clog it up quickly especially primer. Secondly, and I did this with mine before the first use, is to keep overspray off of the lighting kit put some clear packing tape over the area where the LEDs are. There is a clear plastic cover over the LED panels, but with overspray it won't stay clear long! That is why I put the clear tape over the plastic covers, after they get covered with overspray all I have to do is take the old tape off and put new tape on without losing the lighting feature. Last, though you will get the rotating base with the booth as in the forward facing pic in your post, don't waste the extra money on the optional parts holder shown in the large pic. It is JUNK JUNK JUNK!!! I did get it also, and only after a couple uses, all but 1 or 2 or the cheaply made plastic alligator clips broke. As Robert mentioned earlier, the exhaust hose is designed to go out a window and not mounted to the top of the booth. If you look closely at the top right corner of my pic of this exact booth, you can see the vent tube going up to the window in my model room. -
These are mostly wins from a live auction group I'm in on Facebook, but since the gentleman that runs the group lives about an hour from me, I went to pick my wins up and more. The brown box is a Borax 20 Mule Team from around the 60s still sealed inside, and to the left of the General Lee and Daisy's Jeep is the complete first season of the "Dukes of Hazzard" on DVD that he sold along with the General Lee kit.

Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
highway replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm sure they probably don't have all their eggs in Hobbico's basket either, but there are other ways to get the kits to the US that it seems some here don't realize. Hobbylink Japan is just one that quickly comes to mind as a way to get those directly from the source. -
Since this thread got dug up from the depths, I remember Monogram having a similar club way back in the day also. I can't remember if the Monogram was similar to the others described since it was over 30 years ago, but I do remember at least these two kits showing up in my mailbox back then.

dose toys r us have model kits?
highway replied to theraif's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't think that they have had kits for many years. I was probably a kid the last time I remember seeing kits in the stores. -
MPC El Camino with cool little dirt bike
highway replied to DanR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This can be built stock because it IS a stock El Camino and IS a stock front end for the SS version. Just because it is the run of the mill El Camino with a Malibu nose doesn't mean it's not stock. -
That's what I have too.

What would YOU like to see as a model
highway replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Both have been done, MPC had a 1978 annual kit of the Camaro and Monogram/Revell have reissued this 79 multiple times. The Thunderbird has been done too. -
Use some type of ad blocker. I have Avast antivirus and there is an ad blocker with it, and I never see an ad here.

Best Way to Store Molotow Pens?
highway replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The ones that I have found at Hobby Lobby come in 1MM, 2MM, and 4MM sizes, and they also have refills for the pens that can be sprayed through an airbrush and eliminates the need for the pens. -
1978-'83 Chevy Malibu questions
highway replied to Luc Janssens's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While I don't know about what the resin wagon is based on, I think I would have to agree with Rick that the 86 Elky would be the best donor since I've found through some issues I'm having finding a good donor for a 70 Elky resin I recently got that Elkys were based on a wagon's wheelbase. -
I don't know about what colors these were molded in other than obviously the "Lemon Crate" release was molded in yellow, these are some Google images of the different box art variations for the 40 Ford Pickup. I also found an approximate timeline for most of the issues on a site I'm a member of, scalemates.com and here is a link to that timeline and the years above the pics are what the timeline indicates for a year of release. https://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=265704&p=timeline 1964 1973 1980 1985 Though not in the timeline, by the box art I think this is around 1990 or 1991 1995 2000 2011

Actually you did leave out one thing, embossing powders in various colors for flocking interiors. -

Just a quick poll

C. None of the above -
Is there any time frame of when the Wilson will be out? I'm not that excited about the Peerless, I have one from the old Paystar Logger and the standalone kit, but would like to get a few more Wilsons.

Oh, so being a next door neighbor and a customer makes you an "expert" on Hendrick's business then? I guess that makes me an expert in the pizza business because I live less than a half mile away from 2 and eat their pizza. I guess too that working someplace for multiply years qualifies one for "expert" status too, so I guess since I've driven a truck for 20 years that makes me an expert in the trucking industry. Also, I guess you have proven you aren't "just some hillbilly" because at least hillbillies at least know the difference between "manufacture" and "manufacturer"!

Hobby shops in Pittsburgh, Pa
highway replied to Brandon17's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hobby Express in Cranberry Township and Auto Models LLC in Greensburg PA are both great shops. Auto Models LLC, in addition to new current releases, also carries a nice selection of OOP (out of production) kits. I live in the Steubenville OH area and both are worth my drive! There is also Tony Tyler's Hobby Center in the West Mifflin section of Pittsburgh, and though I haven't personally been there myself, is another you might check out.
