  1. Thanks guys! It was a trying build, mostly the hinges. I did have to strip the heavy Revell chrome and have it all redone by Chrometech USA. My father in law was most pleased with the gift.
  2. Very cool project! Where did you source the wobbly's from?
  3. I will, I will!! I have yet to decide on what color to pain the exterior of the 5th wheel trailer and what car to park with it. What ever it is, it'll be an SCCA racer!

    1985 VW GTI

I built this Revell GTI to represent the real one my wife and I bought new in 1985. I tried to replicate the interior as close as was possible, and I'd love to have another try at the red stripes on the seats.....The inaccuracies of the rally light package, Euro bumpers and the aftermarket wheels and tires not withstanding, it closely resembles our real car. I have since located a Fujimi A2 Golf to raid the proper wheels and tires as well as the correct grill and head lights and may some day correct this one.
  5. This was my first attempt at a number of things, weathering, full detail and major kit bashing. I like it a lot, but think I should have lowered the ride height a bit.
  6. I built this dually to be part of an as of yet unfinished race car diorama.
  7. Here are a pair of Monogram NASCAR models built in the OOTB style. Enjoy.
  8. Built this as a gift for my father in law a few years back. Enjoy.
  9. Here is a pic of a SCCA production racer Sunbeam Alpine I built years ago from the original AMT Get Smart kit with the air dam and fender flares from the Tiger re-issue. Mostly a kit bash with photo etch hood pins being the only after market item. The next item is a complete "what if" phantom IMSA GTU car based on the thought that AAR should have raced the Toyota MR2. It is another heavily kit bashed model using the Fujimi MR 2 and Revell Mustang GTO kits as the primary sources.
  10. Not sure why the 3/4 view got tilted 90 degrees....
  11. Here are some additional detail pics of the phantom World Sports car: A front 3/4 view of the Phantom WSC The tub was completely scratsh built and the parts box was liberally raided for the interior. The engine bay featuring a normally aspirated Buick V-6 from the Mac Tools Indy car. Again, the parts box was liberally raided...
  12. Here is a picture of the front and rear undersides showing the extent of air pocket filling required. Also, the front splash pan is going to require considerable work.....
  13. If I remember correctly, Tamiya has a transparent green acrylic. I do lnow they have both blue and yellow in their transparent line, so I may have to mix it. And yes, it will be a one of a kind thing. Acutally, I have about 8 different Group 44 builds planned, ranging from the Renaissance XJR-5 IMSA GTP to an MG-B. This is the first one I've started though I have the rest stashed ready to work on.
  14. Dove into cleaning up the resin body this afternoon a bit. Very hard and brittle gray resin. Was going to take a few more pics, but ran out of battery in the camera...... Yes, it is interesting and uplifting when things come together. I'd seen the slot body on a couple of German slot car sites over the years, but it turned out to be long OOP. It's going to be a fun one doe sure!
  15. Here is a project that has been an on and off kind of thing for a while. The real car raced three times, twice at Le Mans and once at Daytona where it was entered in the GTX category with full GTP points. The Daytona version is mu choice as a build. Tamiya released the first Le Mans version as a snap kit, and as part of their Tamtech 1/34th RC series. I started the build with the Tamtech body, a bunch of Porsche parts, and the Tamiya 959 kit as a basis. This was during my "has to be full detailed" phase, so off came the rear body work, and off came the front body work. I eventually got the 961 kit for the interior basics as well as the wheels and tires. I've unearthed a fair number of pictures of the real car with and with out body work. I am planning on returning to this over the winter this year. Here is an exploded view of where it exists currently.....
  16. Its weird how things turn out some times. I had done an evilbay purchase of a pair of 1/24th Porsche slot bodies that both arrived trashed. The seller offered up something I thought I'd never find on this side of the pond. It was a very rough but very accurate Series three E-type Jaguar that was the spitting image of this car: I had wanted to build this beast for quite some time, and now I have my chance! It will be a curbside using Fred Cady decals, AMT minilites and slicks and such from the parts bin. Here is a pic of the basics I have gotten together for the project: This will be this winters project. I'll be adding photos, both of the project as it progresses and pictures of the real car I took when I saw it at Sebring a few years ago. The body is going to need considerable work to fill voids in the casting, as well as adding various bits of trim, especially around the head light buckets and cockpit opening. Also, the missing rear tail lights will have to be scratch built. All in all, it will be a fun task, and I'll have a very cool model to place on the shelf that few have in 1/24th scale. I hope all will enjoy.
  17. If you have no use for the fender flares, let me know....I do!! Jim
  18. Very sharp. Looks good in that color as well.
  19. Very nice work on a cool car. Very nice work on a very cool old Trans-Am car!.
  20. Very cool! And very nice work. The Challenge version of this kit is on my list to build an ALMS version.
  21. It's a very nice kit. I've got a couple stashed to kit basgh for IMSA spec long tail 962's. There are no issues with the kit as I remember it.
  22. I've had in the back of my head turn six at RA as a great diorama. An up hill under a bridge to a tight left hander. I have a bunch of file photos for just this thing. Problem is it'd be pretty big, and I'd have no good place to display it...
  23. Yeah, this was the last contracted year for the runoffs at RA. I went to them last year. Cold and wet. Usually, I go to the sprints for the full four days. Much better climate then!
  24. The mini and the "phantom" World Sports car were the last two all out heavy on the detail builds I've done, and they were from a few years back. I like the Mini a lot due to my continued trips to Road America for SCCA club racing fixes. I also have another phantom from a while back of ficticous AAR IMSA GTU car. Not my best work, but another full build. If there is interest, I'll post pics of it as well. I also plan on posting some in the work projects I'm excited about.....
