Cool! Glad they are liked. Here are the others in "bigger" size....

Here you are Tom.

Thanks. You'd never guess it started out as black plastic.....!

I just posted a picture of the Tamiya GT2 kit I built as the Champion GTS car under road racing cars....

Thanks guys. I did the thumb nails to save space... here are blow ups....

Hopefully this works..... Here are seven subjects that I have built, all of the road racing topic. Four real, three "phantoms"..... Enjoy! This is the Champion Porsche GTS entry from the 24 hours of Daytona. Tamiya of course, with Umi decals, and some wiring inside the cockpit and a scratch built neon number indicator in the right side window behind the drivers seat. Other than modifying the roll cage to IMSA spec, the rest of the kit is OOB. Hasegawa AAR Toyota OOB. Monogram Chaparral OOB with aftermarket decals, mostly Cady. Revell Viper, with Le Mans Miniatures wheels, tires and brakes, aftermarket decals, vac form roof I sold through Penguin Productions, parts bok wing and interior bits. Phantom IMSA GTO Ford Escort built for a GPMA Phantom contest. Mostly OOB Tamiya rally Escort with Tamiya Ford Focus wheels and tires, and NASCAR aftermarket decals. Tamiya Mini Cooper done up as an older SCCA Production class car. Pretty much box stock, save the Weber carb and airdam. Clock Work lettering dry rub transfers, with a bunch of parts box decals. The tires are the Mini's rally tires with the tread completely sanded off. The single most ambitious build to date. A phantom PSCR World Sports car based upon a Tamiya Tamtech RC body. About twenty different kits gave parts to this car. The basic tub was scratch built. The drive train is mostly from a Monogram Buick V6 Indy car with out the turbo induction, the front suspension was mostly fron the Monogram Mustang GTP.

Nobody Remembers ? ( Chris Ekonomaki )
IMSANUT replied to TooOld's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Chris is the major reason I became a motorsports fan. Like Cronkite and the space race, Chris was the definition of a well researched fan. Long may his memory last. Rest in peace sir. -
1/25 Revell '70 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda 2'n1
IMSANUT replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This is all great news! I've been planning Gurney's racing AAR 'Cuda for a while now, using the Hemi 'Cuda kit for the transformation. A rumored AAR car is wonderful, especially if they go the whole nine yards for the racing version. I guess we'll wait and see. -
The Tamiya GT3 road car was an earlier version. I have this one and a Renaissance transkit for the racing version. Flying lizards again. I've built one of the GT2 kits, and have another pair to do. Very nice kit BTW.

As soon as I have time to do the photobucket thing, not only will I be posting pics of builds, but tons of SCCA, IMSA, ALMS, and maybe even Indy car pics........ But it'll have to wait till I return from work out of town.....about three weeks or so. Oh, and Thanks!!!

A "Rivet Counter" speaks up!
IMSANUT replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The moniker rivet counter got it's start in the military modeling world. I'm of this belief though I don't build military subjects, but rather road arcing subjects. No I am the first to admit that race cars change more often than I change the tv channel, but It is frequent that the model companies just get things completely wrong. -
True, but the GT3RSR also races at Le Mans, and Fujimi has done Le Mans cars before.... I love the building, but each of these builds is going to be close to three figures to get the stuff needed to build it..... I already buy a bunch of resin kits as it is, but plastic is supposed to be less expensive, right???...............

A "Rivet Counter" speaks up!
IMSANUT replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm in the rivet counter corner. As is witnessed by my review of the Porsche GT3R from Fujimi. I have had hopes dashed when inaccurate kits are released. The simply awful AAR Cuda from Revell comes to mind. Still, there is indeed something to be said about working around kit errors. It is after all a hobby about building things, and we all have talents to build. It is frustrating when companies get it wrong though. They do have the ability to research things to (hopefully) get the subject kitted correctly. Sometimes the ball gets dropped, sometimes things change. This is especially so with competition cars that are constantly evolving. The Monogram Mustang GTP is a good example of this, as is the Monte Carlo NASCAR kits whose sides curved under.... -
Still no luck loading photos.......

Here are some pictures of some of the road racing subjects I've built in 1/24th 1/25th scale. All are of real cars except the final three "phantoms."

Ok. I've viewed the primer on how to post photo's, and I've tried several times following the instructions, and the little spinning icon telling me it is working never stops spinning..... I've tried both upload options to no avail. I'm bummed......

Urbana for 34 years, Pittsburgh before that.

Beautiful vintage racers here.

The 4 cylinder used in the Probe and Mustang GTP were a twin cam racing engine based on the Ford of Germany Kent block. The Roush turbo fours were Pinto based 4 cylinders similar to the Turbo Tbird and Mustang SVO engines.
-
Correction, the Probe GTP used the same turbo 4 cylinder that the Mustang (7-11 version) used. The Probe was tested with a Cosworth twin turbo V8, but never ran a race with it. Later a related car, the Maxim did run a Roush V8.

Interesting thread here. I have several vintages of the AMT kit, and never knew it had Halibrand's as an option! I've always thought it was a great kit, though I thought it had a 260, but they look alike. As to the Revell 427, what makes it bad? I think the shape is pretty spot on..... I managed toi score an old Revell FIA roadster body on evilbay that needs some restoration, but it'll make a great looking car when done.
