nhrafan - Thanks man haha, i love overkill boohoo - Thanks man. Yeah i thought it was a 25 at first but after looking at the cars details i got from my dad when i went to sell it, it said it a ZR so im thinking whoever had it before just switched the trim, either way its the same car just with a rover badge instead of MG. diymirage - yh i know what you mean, il see what it looks like when its painted then decide but i think your right, although, the rollcage is going to be the same colour as the body because thats how the rally cars are usually painted so maybe a couple sneeky decals on the cage? some of the decals on the design come with the kit but they are so thin, the tear so eaisly so im going to have to find a way to transfer the ford and focus decals without ripping them :S edit : these are the decals that come with the kit....

So iv just been getting stuff in primer today, nothing special so im not going to show pics of that but iv come up with what i want it to look like when finished, obviously i will have to make some of the decals.
-
Very nice work man, you have inspired me to do similar, ironic how i have a unopened lotus 7 kit and a revell buick v6 isn't it? haha
-
Ok show polished a little part of the paint test subject, i did not fully prep the primer but im liking it, just imagine what it will be like when i do prep properly for the focus. Before Polish After Polish

is it a prowler? sounds like you have it all planned out, looking forward to progress.

Thanks man, the car was a 2001 MG ZR, as you can probaly tell by the pic i was in the middle of fitting the new engine when that pic was taken. i got it from halfords but its not halfords own paint, i bought it in a 500ml tub (glad i didn't get the 1l tub now or i would have loads left), i don't use any of the halfords own stuff really, doesn't seem to like me or my projects lol so i always use hycote for primer and clear coat, all seem to be compatible with each other, i was suprised after i thinned the paint that it would go through my airbrush but it does with no problems.

So iv been thinking about colour and remembered i have some car paint that i never used because i was forced to sell the car before i got a chance to paint, MG Rover, british racing green, this is it on a test body after sanding out the orange peel, no wax or polish. What do you guys think, should i use it? this is the real car, the colour from a distance.

looks great man, not really feeling the silver BMW wheels though, maybe paint them black to look like UK steelies? just an idea. Keep up the great work work!

GTMust - Thanks Tony and good luck finding a probe kit, sounds like a killer project. diymirage - Thanks man, yours sure looks unusual but nice to see another focus that isn't build box stock. Tom Reid - Looking forward to your build. DoubleD - Thanks Dave, i was actually thinking of adding a firewall, a solid styrene sheet with a section cut out to fit a old rear window i have from a AMT charger then i would glue it to the front of the rollcage, just need some styrene. Im not sure about the holes in the quater glass, maybe some small scoops instead on the sides? Im using the mesh from the revell enzo kit for the front bumper and the cut out of the hatch, mocked it up with white glue and looked good so il stick with it. Hmm...Ford Focus FF sounds good I was thinking Ford Focus RSF-550 at first but its abit too long haha. made007 - I might have used a gt-40 engine if i had one but im a bit bored of v8 engines right now (never thought id say that) also thanks Modlbldr - Thanks Tom, Hmmm....i like the sound of that MR2 with ferrari powerplant, maybe a f40 twin turbo v8 would be killer! I finished the mustang and few other projects a while ago but didn't have internet at the time to update because im in my own house now so all my old projects are at my parents place, i will try to get a few pics when im next there if i remember.
-
Few more pics for you, iv cut out where the number plate would usually go, for heat extraction, i will be using the mesh from the ferrari enzo kit as a grill. I will also be using the radiators from the enzo kit, they will be mounted in the front. Once i get a better knife i will cut out the moulded front grill and hood vents and replace with the mesh from the enzo kit. Also mocked up the spoiler. Needs tidying up but should easy enough.

Thanks guys. Im deliberatly holding off working on the body, it needs work to the roof but thats about it as it has the wide arches moulded and rally bumpers. After taking the last pictures i thought id have a go at taking apart the engine to re paint it, suprisingly it was very easy to take apart. I want to try add springs from a xmods rc car to the rear suspension to give it abit more realism.

Thanks for the comments guys Iv been busy lately but have found time to work on the project a bit. iv cut part of the chassis out, now i just need to measure the width of the swing arms and cut the inside wheel wells correctly, after that the engine will sit further up so it will be more visable when finished, anyway enough talk....

Kit - Revell ford focus rally kit used as the base. Powerplant - Revell ferrari f50 barchetta engine. I need to cut into the chassis to mount the engine.... As you can see there will be a few problems, mainly the exhaust and drive shaft being moulded to the chassis. I should be able to just get away with covering it up with a sheet of styrene and the kit come with front belly pan that ends just behind the cross member. I will need to get a set of the f50 wheels and brakes to properly mock it up, right now its on xmods rc wheels so not ideal, also i will have to get a set of matching wheels custom made because the front wheels will use the original pin wheel mounts and the rears will use whatever the f50 wheel mounts are. Anyway, alot of body and chassis work needs to be done and engine needs refurb but thats all for now.

does anyone have a copy of the ferrari f50 instructions on photobucket on something? Thanks.

So im looking at buying the tamiya rx7 r1 kit that includes the engine with it and have a few questions. Whats the quality like? Any fitment issues? Is the engine accurate? Are the tyres rubber?

Ever Model Your First Car?
Deckerz replied to Danno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i would have modeled my first car but it does not exist in model form, MG ZR. -
My favorite model kit shame i don't have one any more :/ so glad to see the supercharged version built
-
its a rc car not a model but......i do appreciate a great looking suby, keep up the good work. any thoughts on a paint scheme yet?
-
thanks for the info man, iv never been able to paint the windows, it always goes wrong for me lol, iv heard it has alot of parts for the suspension so lowering it should be eaisier then most other kits, no under hood detail is fine for me because i want to make mine race car style and race cars only really have the engine under the hood, the rest like battery and stuff is usually in the boot or where the back seats were, speaking of the back seats, are they seprate or moulded to the interior?
-
looks real nice man, perfect paintjob, im gonna have to pick up this kit, always loved the front of the charger. any shots of under the hood?
-
Thanks for the comments guys, really motivates me to keep going on my builds. Alright guys iv done alot of mesuring and calulating stuff for this car for the scratch build parts such as the roll cage so theres not much change in progress but i mocked up the engine with the front on and radiator with fan just to make sure the dont hit the bar in the front and gladly they don't tomorrow iv got to clean up for christmas, put stuff in the loft and do some wallpapering. once thats done i will try to get the engine in primer. should i strip the supercharger base and paint it chrome or should i leave it met silver?

Im trying to figure out the easiest way to lower the front of the revell mustang gt kit, the front suspension iv already glued onto the chassis because it snapped, so i need to find a way to lower the front while the suspension is glued on, the front springs are not glued because i know have have to take some off those. the only way i can think of is to cut the springs down and glue them then warm the front arms so they will bend abit and push them up into where the shocks go in the interior tub, but thats risky and a last alternative, any other ways? Second i need to some how make it fit wider wheels, as you guys know who have built this kit, the wheels are too thing and are more like truck wheels, im wanting to fit the volks in the pic below but they stick out past the body. I guess i could get some sheet styrene and make wider arches but i wanna see if theres any other ways.
-
Ok so iv seen a few resin parts for the revell mustang gt on ebay, the front lip, a few hoods, few spoilers and side scoops. Is there any other stuff like resin wide arches, roof scoop, rear bumper splitter like the one on the gt500?
-
heres a few more shots, test fitted to make sure it fits I think for covering the old fuse box, i could probaly just melt a thin a piece of styrene on top of it or glue a piece under it. This first bar was easy to make, just trimmed a piece down to size but now iv got to start the mesuring for the rest of these front pieces, once cut, shaped and glued, i can then start on the cockpit rollcage. Its all being made just from part trees.
-
I was doing research last night into the rollcage of a mustang gt and thought it was only inside the cockpit but i was wrong, i cannot find any pictures of the rollcage in the back of the car inside the cockpit though. Anyway heres the picture i came across.... I think this would be classed as part of the rollcage but not sure, anyway heres what iv started on, obviously my tubes are abit thicker but you get the idea. I had to cut the fuse box out because otherwise the tube wouldn't fit, i know the engine bay looks smaller then the model engine bay but the model is not perfectly true to scale.
