I have the '48 Lincoln; I opened the box, looked at it, test-fit a few parts, and it promptly went to the back of the closet on the bottom. I might have to find a pack of Black Cat fircrackers for that one.
Hey. I received this kit from a builder on another board sometime last year I believe. I promised him that I'd build it so I figured there's no time like the present. It will be box-stock (RARE for me!! ) with a nail polish finish accented by pearl powders. Thanks for lookin'.
I have a looooong way to go before paint is applied!!
The car below was painted roughly 6 or 7 years ago using Testors enamel thinned with lacquer thinner from AutoZone. I cleared it with Testors #2936 clear from the can. I didn't care about yellowing because it's already orange. Sometimes you have to go out on a limb and try new things. I rarely use enamels these days but I have no problem doing so as I now know what steps to take to make it a painless (mostly) process...
A lot of what I learned in the hobby came from trying what the status quo said NOT to do. sometimes the people giving the "advice" have nothing to show as evidence they use it. Donn and Mike Mc are two of the people that know what they're talking about. I use Donn's technique regularly when I paint my builds and Mike Mc has a collection of beautiful builds that I've seen first-hand and I can vouch for abilities with paint.
I bought a set just for this reason; I have yet to use them but I'm sure I can come up with something. To answer the Good Dr.'s question, I usually stare at the project until something comes to mind. I also likepainting with nail polish so I get a few different choices there. There are times when I see a certain color and the rest of the build just falls together in my head...
I saw the color above in my wife's manicure bag and things came together quite quickly. Chopper originally got me into using nail polishes and it took a while for me to get used to them but now, I'll use nail polish without hesitation.
I received a Monza a couple of days ago in the mail and just won another '70 Toronado from Ebay earlier today. I'll probably start a thread on the Monza pretty soon; I discovered that a 427 from the '67 Impala street machine fits perfectly and I've already got a color for it.
Having been around in the '70s and having OWNED cars from the '70s, I concur with what's being said about cars from those eras. I thoroughly enjoyed my '77 Grand Prix but not until I put a 400 in it from a pre-1972 LeMans in it. I'd LOVE to have a kit of it but it won't happen anytime soon. I was quite pleased when they kitted the '77 Monte carlo and I have build several of them. I may still build another but for the most part, I'm content with what's being produced by the kitmakers these days.
