A few more in progress shots: dash gauges removed, seat sanding hood sides getting grounded down, chassis from Charger fitment to Monaco door panel fit test
-
Update on the interior: Rear seat. Decided to modify the Charger seat instead of the LTD seat by rounding off the corners and filling in the pattern. Front seat. Used the Charger lower section. Rounded off the corners, added some material to the bottom. Used the Monaco upper section. New back from styrene. Filled the area in between the split bench to make a real bench. Filled in the pattern. Side panels cut down (needs more trimming). Will be adding more styrene to make the new panels

Would love to visit you sometime and see the car No, I haven't looked through the site very carefully. Too many words and numbers and not many photos

Glued the hood to the body to blend it in. I think I have the shape nearly done but will know more after the primer. This was the tough part. Hard to see in the photo, but the sides (inner of the fender crowns) were sanded hard to deepen and therefore visually lessen the '77 dip. Next, will be to cut out the narrower hood and add the Charger engine bay and wiper panel

thought that was a model at first. Would make a great real or not shot hope to see some shots of it in the sun

Your computer or device might look a little different but the concept should be similar Reply Click to choose files (on your computer) Submit Reply that's one way. You can also add attachments or add a link or imbed a photo -
Plan is to either: Print the masters and pour the mold using steel filled injection molding resin Or CNC the molds. There's a CNC department where I work and can get an employee discount Yes, multi piece body for sure. Simple is better and cheaper for making, shipping, and storing. Once the model is built, no one could tell the difference Do you make molds as a service? If so, I'd like to discuss this project with you. Thank you for commenting

1/6th is common in studio scale cars. Not sure why, but I think it had to do with the dolls available at the time. They were used as figures for miniature shots

Here's a tip for you in case you don't know. If you are using a service, 3D printing gets more expensive the taller you go (Z axis). This is due to the time it ties up the machine and the support structure. To save money, split the body into sides, hood, roof, trunk, front, and rear and print them as flat as possible. If you're doing it on a home built machine, I don't think it matters much. SLA is more expensive but has bette detail. SLS has less detail but cheap. You need to seal the SLS body with superglue and do lots of sanding

Are you going to reshape the grille insert to Americanize it? -

Good work! I've had to peel off that plastic wrap from hundreds of Jeeps, Hyundais, Mercedes, Chryslers, and Audis -
Clearly Scale Resin

Any photos? -
Left to right, Charger, Ford LTD, Monaco Rear seat options. The 1970 Ford LTD rear lower seat looks the best due to the curved edges. It would have to be narrowed to fit. Monaco upper seat will work with minor pattern changes Front seat options. Bottom half of Charger (rescribed pattern) plus narrowed upper half from the LTD

Thanks Dan, I'll try that

I replied to you. Did you get my email? -
I did not know that, thank you! I'll pick up that kit I'll look forward to hearing your input since you have a real one. Any ideas on where to get the dash gauges? The Satellite dash is perfect but the gauges are different. Any other front and rear seat ideas? I don't want to use the LTD seats unless I have to thank you for your words! more progress today, filled in the hood valleys. Also measured the fender tops on the Monaco and found, they are perfect without modification. Also, molded the rear bumpers for extras

Thanks! The idea came when I realized the Monaco was the renamed Coronet with a relatively unchanged body. I had no idea before since the car was before my time. The '77 Monacos were my favorite cop cars and wondered why it was only around for a few years.
