Spoiled and Depressed
peter31a replied to Swifster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Those hobby shops you mention, Dave, are what I consider my LHS's even though they are 2 hours away. There are a couple that are an hour away they are combo shops that either have yarn and paint by numbers as well or are more RC and the kits are a small corner. The shops in Toronto are well worth the drive. I recently purchased a Paasche H from one of them. It would have been cheaper, maybe, to have purchased from coastal air as they had it listed at half the price I paid but by the time you add shipping, customs etc I figure I broke even (if you ignore the parking ticket I got). And I had the benefit of immediate personal information on the use and care of said airbrush. I have purchased older kits on e-Bay but I find in general to buy new kits on the net by the time shipping is paid it is better just to go to Wheels and Wings in Toronto when I'm down for a meeting. -
All your effort was worth it! That is one really nice Porsche race car.

How Technologically Savvy Are You?
peter31a replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Less Paper? Are you kidding? At our facility we go through so much paper it's incredible. In fact those of us that have to move those heavy boxes have a favourite saying: "I thought computers were supposed to eliminate all this paper!" Instead we're going through about 3 times the amount we used to. The other thing that ticks a lot of us off is the people who spend all their days in front of a computer think they are the way to get everything done. In the "old" days when there was a course to be taken, say 'fire safety', our supervisor would have to give us time and we would go to a classroom and be taught the course. Now we have e-learning on the computer. That is fine if you work at a computer all day but if you're in housekeeping, dietary, maintenance, transportation etc where you're lucky to get near a computer during the course of a day you can't get these courses done. The manager won't assign time to do it but will give us a dressing down if it's not done. It's also a challenge when there is 1 computer and 12 people trying to use it. -
Cool concept, well executed! Would be a street and strip terror. Job well done.

How Technologically Savvy Are You?
peter31a replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know how you could read a magazine on a phone. My eyes hurt just thinking about it. I have enought trouble finding a phone number on the thing. If I know the number (usually I'm just calling home) I dial it manually cuz it's faster than trying to find where it's stored on the phone. Of course then again my cell phone only gets turned on 2 or 3 times a month and I keep getting yelled at at work because I keep forgetting to turn the work cell phone on when I get in. And on the work phone, in 18 months I've had about 10 calls and maybe made 3. Of course as far as I'm concerned magazines are made of paper so I guess in the end I'm a technophobe. But I'm glad there is alternatives for those who like that type of thing. -
Being a Model A fan, I just have to pipe in and say that is one beautiful Model A Woody. Love the wood work you did.

Hubley's can be a real challenge at the best of times. You did a really good job with this one. Congrats!

Sorry Michael, I don't know why I called you Matt. But my comments stand otherwise, that Hudson is a beautiful build.

That Hudson is beautifully done, Matt. Congrats!

Mine comes in an envelope as well. Many times the envelope has been well mangled but usually the magazine survives. Usually once the guys in the U.S.A. start saying they've received theirs, I know mine will be along in a month so for example issue 163 that they are now discussing I know I should receive by about January 23. And I hoard magazines as well about 3 filing cabinets and several boxes so far (although I am starting to divest some...well trying.....sorta....). -
motor racing models cd via curt raitz
peter31a replied to randx0's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Motor Racing Miniatures(?) I think. I recall it as a good mag but I never managed to get many copies. This cd could be interesting. -
I'm such an idiot. I knew basically what it was. I knew Daimler and I wanted to confirm model # and try to pin down year but stupid me never got around to doing the search and replying to Harry. What a dweeb! Where's that wet noodle...

Saw the 1;1 at R&M Restorations in Chatham, Ontario, Canada on our way to the Detroit NNL this year. Unfortunately didn't have the camera with me when we went in and we closed the place as we looked around so we had no chance to go back to get pics. Picked the reissued kit up at the NNL so was really kicking myself for not having taken the camera in when I had the chance. Thanks for posting the info and pics of the real thing and thanks for your in box review.

Congrats to both of you on really nice Dupont/Craven builds. I had forgotten they sponsored him first before Jeffy.
