Nice job. I have always liked this car. Have the car craft magazine with an article on this car. How did you do the body? If Monogram Revell would reissue this they would have a winner. If the molds don't exist then they need to reverse engineer it like Polar Lights did with the old Aurora monster kits Would love to build one but not for the crazy prices for the the original kit. bobthehobbyguy

The "FreakShow" new project 1/12/13

John, This just gets better with every update. Looking forward to seeing the flames on this. Also it looks like you used surgical tape for the blower belt and I can see the cog pattern it it. How did you get the pattern in it? bobthehobbyguy -
I remember reading somewhere that he was given a bad time by the judges of some event because there were no rear springs I believe he added a couple of valve springs to answer the complaint. I thought the car was cool when it came out. Granted it wasn't practical but neither are a lot of cars that are art. Most of the ridler winners are not really practical and just function enough to pass the movement requirements. bobthehobbyguy

That was one of the points I was making that thie new valve covers are oriented the same way as the old. Second there is an article in the latest issue of rod and custom on how to put old style valve covers on a newer engine using an adapter plate looks totally possible in this case so it really can't be said that there is anything wrong with the valve covers used. With the automotive works of art today anything is possible with enough time and money. That's why some of the ridler winners cost a million or more dollars. I also agree the battery terminals are another great show of craftsmanship in this model. These are the things I look for for inspiration and ideas for my future projects and that people like John are willing to share. bobthehhobbyguy -
The "FreakShow" new project 1/12/13
bobthehobbyguy replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
John, This is a beautiful model. As far as the valve covers if the engine was a 392 an adapter plate would have to been made to use these valve covers. When you look at the 392 valve covers you have yours installed in the same orientation see attached picture. So this is not really an issue unless someone wants to try to make it an issue. Keep up the good working looking forward to seeing this one finished. bobthehobbyguy -
PEGASUS! Flying Mustang A/G Racer...WIP 3-29-13

Ira, Looking good as always. Wish they would reissue the pod racer seems like the engines are perfect for 1/24 or 1/25 scale. See the Olds Aerotech in the background and I saw that in the Quad bike you were doing it next. Any in progress photos of it yet? bobthehobbyguy -

Travelling with models
bobthehobbyguy replied to Burnout's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would not advise mailing your models. For a number of years GSL allowed mail in entries. This stopped a number of years ago because too many models arrived as kits. bobthehobbyguy -
Travelling with models
bobthehobbyguy replied to Burnout's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Burnout, I would recommend bring the models as carryone providing you aren't taking to many. That the way I have done it for the GSL in the past I think there is a greater risk with checking them in your baggage. I would also include a note in the box with the model that it is very fragile. bobthehobbyguy
