Both are really nice. Great color choices too. Too bad Italeri cheaped on this with the GTO interior and engine block. On the California, you realize the induction cold air is for a 250. If on a California, you need to have a sport version with a gas cap protruding through the trunk. What are you doing for the interior conversion?

1968 Hemi Dart - UPDATE 6/29/2015 Last WIP
Exotics_Builder replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Getting around to readying the body to paint, I have cleaned it up and applied primer (Tamiya Fine Light Gray). In the side view, you can see where I have shaved of the GTS emblem and front side marker light (not mentioned in the instructions). I have also scribed a panel line below the front door to indicate where the fender panel ends. This should be there on all Darts but is omitted on the model. The rear window trim is a bit thin and would be difficult to foil after primer and color coats. To help, I added Evergreen strip over it and shaped it. For the engine bay, I removed the heater motor and covered it with a Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland round shape. I also again pointed out the spots for the hood pins. There really should be brackets at the rear as the hood pins would be on the top of the firewall. However, the kit provided hood has the hood pin plate spots too far forward. I just elected to add brackets rather than finagle the hood. -

2015 Revell share the Dream
Exotics_Builder replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you look at it, you will see it is Revell of Germany, not Revell USA. Both are now owned by Hobbicco, but, if it is like last year, it was a Dog's breakfast spread of requests. It may give ideas, but these companies have a variety of means to gather data. -
Sealing Testors Metalizers
Exotics_Builder replied to johnbuzzed's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Exactly for the buffing versions. It will work for the non-buffing but I don;t bother. Allclad acrylic clear works well on Alclad, but I haven't tried it yet on Metalizer. -
1968 Hemi Dart - UPDATE 6/29/2015 Last WIP
Exotics_Builder replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yep. Missed it. Needs a quick trim. Also was told about the driver side mirror cover plate since it was a delete as well. Plus, there is a panel line that goes down from the front door that is omitted. -
Carb color depends on era and carb you are modeling. The colors mentioned above are good choices, Also Tamiya Titanium Gold or Champagne Gold for a 60's era look (I use over silver base). Modern renditions (Resto-Mod or Pro-Touring for example) could have black, chrome or bright silver.

First off, this is NOT a competition with the 68 Hemi Dart that Quick GMC has posted. I even hesitated on doing this posting. The GTR Auto Modelers theme for 2015 is 100 years of Dodge, hence any Dodge. I am not exactly a MOPAR aficionado, and only had two Dodge products in my stash of over 800 unbuilt models. I chose the Hemi Dart to do to support the theme. I did some research on the Dart (something I do on every model I build) and came up with a project. I elected to build the race car as delivered in the kit, using the supplied decals. As we are also trying to get our ready to sell our house, I’ve scaled back the detail level. I assembled some aftermarket parts for the build. They are the Detail Master hood pin set, Replicas and Miniatures Dodge Dart grill shell, the Model Car Garage Dodge Dart detail set and the Competition Resins seat set. I started with the body and scribed the door and trunk panel lines as well as the windshield valence grill (a lot of times primer and a couple of coats of paint almost bury this detail). I ground off the molded GTS emblems on the side and trunk as well as the front side marker lights. The Hemi Darts have fiberglass front fenders which did not have marker lights. In the engine bay I added blocking on the firewall and drilled out for the hood pins that will be applied later. For the interior, I used my Dremel to level the radio and heater controls and used Evergreen Plastic strips to cover them as they were not included in the race car. The side panels also have door handles and rear armrest that needed to be removed. I drilled out the front handle area as the hole is in the door panel even though seat belt straps are used to raise and lower the special windows for the car (I will be adding those later). I used Photo-etch shapes to add the cover buttons on the rear side panels and left the dimple as it appears to be in the actual car. For the engine, the Hemi in my kit has the uneven height cross ram. I cut that down and brought it level with the other side. This model needs to be completed by our August NNL. Given where we’re at, there is a good chance we’ll still be around for that. If not, it is an interesting build and out of my comfort zone (like the VM Samba Woody I did). Updates to follow.

Revell of Germany Ferrari SA Aperta
Exotics_Builder replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
On the piping or trim, Normally I have to do something extra, but Revell includes the decals for these. I did have to add the seat belt strap that is shown in the US owners manual (found one online). Here's the real car I believe Revell used as the prototype: -
Revell of Germany Ferrari SA Aperta
Exotics_Builder replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I know about the two issues you mentioned. Still haven't decided on the glass as I want to do a little fitment review. Another option on the glass I am considering is to color the edges with a black chisel point Sharpie. Still need to decide. Since I am trying not to buy any more paint than I have to before moving, I thought I would use some paint I already had. I experimented to come up with a passable match to Rosso Fuocco. It is Tamiya Mica Red over Tamiya Gold with TS-13 Clear Coat. Seems convincing. I do have Scale Finishes and Cobra Colors Ferrari colors, but didn't see one I wanted to use and didn't want to open an unused bottle. So the solution is what I mentioned. I had come across that You Tube video before, but thanks for referring it. -
I was trying to get this built for the March 21 Ferrari Expo after my Dino 246 GTS body was accidentally damaged beyond repair by a workman. But, a case of the stomach flu and the aftermath kept me away from working on this for eight days. I am in the process of finishing up the subassemblies prior to putting it together. The body has gotten its clear coat which needs polishing and then touch up to the engine bay, door sills and windshield. The chassis and engine are pretty much done. I added limited wiring to the engine as most of it is buried under the air intake and shrouds. I adapted KA Models PE brake set with resin calipers. To me, a big weakness in RoG modern models is the wheel/brake set up. Also, the SA Aperta kit has the 599 GTO brake covers, that the SA Aperta does not. For wheels, I used a Hobby Design aftermarket set I liked along with Hobby Design tires. I added the turned aluminum valve stems and Ferrari logos. For the interior, I opened up the vents and applied KA PE vent covers. I also added seat belts and created a set of floor mats. I have created a US side marker lamp decal that I will use, since this is a US Spec car. I also will need to add the air bag warning stickers to the sun visors. A little bit of polishing and clean up needed before going on to final assembly.
-
The same diameter and depth. Also, the engine is the 396 Big Block with dress up valve covers and air cleaner. The Overhaulin car was a small block if I remember correctly. Also, the show car, if I recollect, had 18 front and 20 rear.
-
Foose designed those wheels for an Impala he did on Overhaulin'. They were mimicking the stock SS hubcaps as a tribute.

Might I suggest, since you live in SE Wisconsin, that you should seek out the AMG model group. Not only would you get a depth of knowledge on kits (reissues, modified reissues or whatever) but also build techniques and other benefits. There are several members of AMG on this board. If you have not yet become involved with them, this would be a great opportunity for you.
