Back in the sixties we always waxed our cars to the max. Polished the chrome. Wiped the tires down. None of us owned what would be classified as a Show Car or true Hot Rod. But when we gathered at the Frisch's mainliner on Saturday night those cars sure reflected those lights on the canopy.

You do build a wide range of models and do it well.

Christmas is done and over with, for the most part, for another year. I'm sure, with the economy being what it is, there were many disappointed people this year. Paula and I did not exchange gifts this year and Michelle and the kids are at Disney World for Christmas. Now that it's over some people will be struggling to figure out how they are going to pay for it. I think that is a darned shame but it seems to be the way we are conditioned. Christmas means buying gifts for people. I know as a child my parents always saw to it that I had a nice Christmas. It's now time for a lot of people to start thinking about the coming New Year, evaluating where they are now and where they want to be this time next year. I know for Paula and I there were good spots in 2010 and some really rough ones. But we made it this far. I don't know what 2011 holds for any of us but I do know that we are the ones in charge of that. We may have to cut back some more, watch our finances a little closer and not eat out as often. Perhaps I won't buy as many models and supplies as I did this year. It may even come to shutting down the internet and satellite TV. But this time next year we will still be here, God willing.

Merry Chirstmas from snowy Southern Ohio.

Merry Christmas Tom, I, originally from Cincinnati. -
I have read through each of these posts and it seems we are ALL in the same boat. I have been blessed with my job of 23 years and a loving wife, but it has been a little rough. But 2010 has come full circle and is about to close out. It has come to an end with my daughter and five grand children coming home to Mom and Dad. A better Christmas present is NOT out there any where. We are a family. Merry Christmas to all and prayers for a better 2011.

What are your Projects for 2011
DRG replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I build one model at a time. I will be working on a 66 Chevy Impala SS 396 but after that God only knows and He isn't talking. -
It's rather small, especially compared to some, but it works for me.

Who inspires you the most?
DRG replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would be seriously remiss if I were to mention names as I can not possibly remember everyone that has inspired me. I have been inspired by those that encouraged me, those that critiqued my builds and those that simply looked yet left no comment. I have been inspired by the high scale of workmanship that is displayed in this forum. I would hope I have made some friends along the way. -
I'm not the skilled builder that many of these guys are but if a 1966 Chevy Impala SS 396 qualifies I would like to be included.

While it is a long story I won't go into here, my daughter came home last night, my grand-kids came home. I am not ashamed of the tears of joy that stain my face. I want the world to know, I want to shout it from the roof tops. My daughter came home.

I would like to try BMF but in all honesty I'm leery of it right now. Good Lord, I forgot the headlight lenses. Thank you.

What's up with screen names?
DRG replied to oldscool's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My sign in name is the same every where but here I'm known as Donald Gardner other places as prg5609. It happened here when I typed in my name and I just left it that way. -
Everything but the distributor are from the kit.

It is always sad to hear of a friend passing. That is especially true under these circumstances. We question why and yet there is no answer. Remember him for the friend he was.

very nice builds, all of them.

New to modeling, need help!
DRG replied to mx22's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The 1/24 size kit is a good size and should be easy to handle. Paint, brushes and hobby knifes are things you will need among many other things depending on how heavy you get into modeling. Take your time, ask questions and most of all have fun. The higher the number the bigger the model, for instance 1/24 is bigger than 1/36 and 1/16 is bigger than both of those. A 62 Chevy measures out at about 9 inches long in 1/24. -
Well I finally got it done. I made some mistakes on this one that I am aware of and I'm sure some I'm not. Please feel free to critique this build as I want to learn and get better. Thank you for looking.

My wife has been beating on me to get this kit. Looks like you did a good job and the pictures are fine.

Photobucket's "Improvements" *Mild Rant*
DRG replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Admittedly I was a little confused at first when dealing with the new way. But after a few moments I really have no problem with the new and improved image hosting. Besides it's still free. -
2010 was the year I got back into modeling after a very long absence. There were several things that amazed me as I started this journey. The quality of the kits is much better than forty or more years ago. The tools and gadgetry that can be purchased to assist in building our models seems endless. But I was also rather disappointed at the quality of my first several builds as I don't seem to remember having the problems I experienced. Those models I built years ago surely looked better than that. But then perhaps thats looking back through rose colored glasses. I joined this forum and one other forum and have learned many things. One of those things is the quality of builds being done to-day is simply mind boggling. I just wanted to thank everyone that has offered a helping hand, criticism where needed and instruction as I have journeyed down this road. I pray that everyone has a great Christmas, a Happy New Year. I am looking forward, as far as sixty allows me, to a New Year of learning and improving my modeling skills. May God richly bless all of you.

As I have went through this entire posting I must admit that I am in awe of your craftsmanship. Seeing build like this make me want to just quit and find some other hobby. At my age I will never be able to accomplish a build as fantastic as this one, either the truck or the diorama. Fantastic work.

Welcome to the best model car forum around. The information and advice that is available is great. It's also great to have a young man showing an interest in this model building hobby. -
Improving your modeling skills
DRG replied to spkgibson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All points on this subject are well taken and understood. But by the same token what is the point of someone posting their work and asking for comments if no one is going to bother to reply. I am aware that I'm not that good of a builder, yet. But I try, make mistakes and try again. Are we really helping a person become a better builder by not replying. I think not. but then that's just my opinion. -
Making progress on the Chevy. Thanks for looking, comments pro or con are welcomed.

Now that was a trip down memory lane as I remember that kit from the sixties when I was 14 tears old. Naturally it did NOT look any where near that good.
