Just a Big Thank You to Everyone Here!
DRG replied to bigmikevee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have been a member of this Forum for, " a little under a year", and the help I have received is amazing. We are truly blessed to have such a gathering place of knowledge and people willing and able to assist us. I agree whole heartedly, kudos to everyone. -
I Hope This Doesn't Jinx Me
DRG replied to jsimmons's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Depending on the area where it is stored and my ability to finance a rebuild I would go for it. -
An excellent build of one of the best Chevrolet's ever made.

As we go through life we are supposed to get smarter. As we build our models we are supposed to get better. I am currently working on, haphazardly, a 1953 Ford Conv. While I am kind of making progress I am currently at a stand still because I do not like the engine in the kit. No problem, right, look through your stash and find one. I looked through my stash and found a problem. I can no longer identify what heads go with what engines, Manifolds are also a loss for identification. Ok, simple enough solution, build the engines and then put them in stash. I will from now on, but for time I'm stymied. What engine should I use?

Building models like that from your junk box makes me want your junk box. That is one cool wrecker, great job.

I can understand your frustration as I have had the same frustration many times. What I want to do always works out real good in my head but putting those thoughts to actual plastic and building a model are two separate things. Hang in there my friend, try again some other day, it will get better.

Pros and Cons Some thoughts.

Wow, really, I thought it had been longer than that. Oh well, count it to old age I guess. -
Pros and Cons Some thoughts.
DRG replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, I agree with your statements and I would not want censorship in any form. I'm just saying that there are times when our words could be better chosen. -
I have been a member here for a little over a year and have noticed something that bothers me a little. Members post the pictures of their builds in the Work-Bench or Under-Glass sections and ask for comments either pro or con. I have done the same thing myself. A vast majority of the builds that are posted are top notch quality and the only comment that can be made is a positive one. But occasionally there is one posted that, shall we say, has problems. I often wonder if we are to harsh in our judgments of those models. Do we consider the age of the person building it? Do we consider the time he has been building models? DO we take into consideration his financial status, perhaps he can not afford BMF. Perhaps it's because I am a Preacher, but criticism give using harsh tones and words is demeaning and meant to hurt. A critique given in a kind manner tends to encourage the builder to try better. Perhaps you feel that you don't have the time it takes to be kind and understanding. Then perhaps nothing being said would be better. By the same token those that ask for Pros and Cons should be prepared to accept those things as they are given. Give people the benefit of the doubt, they are trying to be of help. While there may be those of us that have many things in common there are others that the only common thread between them and you is model building. Perhaps we shouldn't be so quick to judge another person until we have walked a mile in their shoes. These are just some thoughts guys, nothing is meant to be offensive.

Michael, if responses to your posts are important to you, you are doing nothing to endear yourself to members of this forum. Chill out man, build models, post them and enjoy this hobby.

OK, out of curiosity I found your two Cords in the Under Glass Section. They look like fine builds to me. As far as people not commenting on your post I would not take it personally as it happens to me all the time. There are times when I, myself, don't comment but it's not done to offend or hurt anyone's feelings.

The sky's are lit up. Thunder is booming. Rain is coming down in sheets and blowing. What a great day for building model cars.

Toss it in a bowl of Dot 3 brake fluid and give it a couple of hours soaking time. Using an OLD toothbrush scrub it down, re-soak if needed.

Lots of good memories in one that looked just like that. Good job.

Does Plug Wire Color Really Matter?
DRG replied to mrmike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most of the time, when I'm building, I am building with a what if attitude. Other times it is an attitude of what can I use to represent plug wires. While I understand and appreciate Bluesman's remarks I always look at my model as a representative look. Extreme accuracy is of no concern. That's not to say that it will always be that way, but for now I use what I have. The problem, or more correctly the comments, are the reason I usually don't bother to post pictures of the models I build. -
or you could make a little sign to sit next to the model. Painted by Earl Scheib, Inc

I'm going to go out on a limb here and voice some thoughts about Model Cars Magazine. 1- In my opinion this forum we have is the best one out there and yes, there are others. 2- The Magazine that is put out, while notoriously late, is a top notch magazine full of information. 3- Perhaps some of the problems that some see with the Magazine and the Forum would go away if more people stepped up and offered to help. 4- Operating a web-site like this one os not easy or cheap. It takes time, effort and money. 5- Would an on-line MCM store help? I'm sure it would but then again there another responsibility added on to the few people that are trying to help. Just some thoughts.

How many car/truck modelers?
DRG replied to Erik Smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I may not know the number of those that build models but I do know that it would take a rather large number to support those that sell models and the cottage industry we have. -
My friend you out did yourself on this one. It looks great.

The Dr. tells me I have had a series of strokes. To me that is strange as I feel no different now than I did several month's ago. I have noticed that I tire easily. And I get distracted easily. Paula, my wife, says I have forgotten a lot of things from our younger years. Heck, I'm getting old, you expected something different.

A store on the web-site is a capitol idea.
-
That does bring back some memories.

Truth of the matter is life can be rough and disappointing at times. There are times when it takes everything you have to get out of bed. That's life. But there are usually things that make it a little easier and more enjoyable. Building model cars ranks right up there with me. It gives me something for me. Sounds selfish doesn't it. But it keeps me balanced and walking the path before me. Another thing that keeps me focused is family. M wife, Paula and granddaughter, Jorianna Cooking supper. Proud Dad and his daughter, Michelle Gran-Pa and his granddaughter, Jorianna. These are the things that enable me to face life, enjoy life. I build models to relax, to calm down after "one of those days" and to stay focused on what is most important in my life. Family.

I hope that everyone will forgive me but I am so proud of my daughter and granddaughter I just had to post these two pictures. Besides it's a better picture of me anyway. I am one lucky, blessed man.

That was my road-car on a job I had many, many years ago. Actually I like it.
