  1. Wow. My three Stutz Blackhawks just took a serious hit in value. No sour grapes, though. I'm glad to see the whole line back on the market. I'm sure I'll pick up some other classic racing cars. Two thumbs up.
  2. Wow. What is it about model car builders that makes them such crybabies wrt new cars?
  3. I'd like to add that two-part catalyzed putty is great. I prefer Evercoat Euro Soft glazing putty. It is very fine grained. It seems to work best over a lacquer primer. Many "tube" type putties cure by a solvent evaporating out, allowing it to shrink and crack. Look for a book on customizing model cars by Mark Gustavson. He also had a series of articles called "Custom Clinic", In Car Modeler magazine. He tells how to do custom body work like chop tops, sectioning, channeling, etc. Well worth it to find the magazines and/or the book.
  4. And because people like to daydream about having it all, whether it's a perfect woman or a bad-a street machine.
  5. The same reason Playmates get airbrushed.
  6. Just wondering. I have an idea for a future project. Thanks.
  7. Not every "rat" has a chassis from a race car. To me, rat rod is a derogatory term describing a car that looks cobbled together and is unsafe. I've seen suspensions that look dangerous, I've seen a Tudor sedan that had its fuel tank moved to directly behind the driver's head, and another Tudor that was radically lowered, but didn't have a transmission tunnel. Four guys rode to the show in that one. Yikes. Watch that driveshaft. Essentially, it describes a turd on wheels.
  8. Rest in peace, Joe. I have Sherline tools. They are great for making model parts...just the thing for people who like to tinker.
  9. I'm digging' the cowl induction hood scoop. I wonder what kind of induction system it will have. Maybe a "sheet metal" manifold fed by a centrifugal supercharger or a pair of turbos.
  10. I saw a thread like this a while back. There was a photo from an Asian kit with English paint colors listed. One was "semi-gross black". Hey, relax, it's only SEMI gross.
  11. You can get decals that are solid sheets of various colors. Just cut out stripes and apply them. You can also get blank solid sheets. Airbrush the color you want over that, cut stripes out, and apply them.
  12. Also...this thread. Wow. Maybe someone could make a diorama of a train hauling some of these engines...about to wreck.
  13. An old COE like a resin White 3000 or '35-'39 International would be awesome. My idea would be make it FWD; turn the engine around and have it go to a heavy duty axle turned upside down. Cover the engine with a sleeper. Now the rear end can be super low. Make that a slide-off flatbed and have it carry a belly tank land speed racer. That would be one wild race car hauler.
  14. Ugh. Posting by phone is such a pain.
  15. Wow. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings.
  16. I once read about using screen as a mask. Spray some black, lay down some fine screen, then spray the other color. If your internet search didn't get good results, try better search terms. I used "painting fake carbon fiber" and got lots of hits. Add "scale" or "model" to narrow it down. Kinda like thread titles.
  17. Or Jeffery Lebowski's assistant Brandt in The Big Lebowski. Rest in peace, brother.
  18. How is it relevant to the topic of this thread? How is Street Rodder arriving two at a time relevant to this thread?
  19. How is that relevant?
  20. Hot Rod too? That sounds like the cover of Car Craft.
  21. Update pic It looks SO long. I got the idea from a shop in Lagrange that puts long beds on Dodge Megacabs. I wish I could afford that.
