  1. The same reason Playmates get airbrushed.
  2. Just wondering. I have an idea for a future project. Thanks.
  3. Not every "rat" has a chassis from a race car. To me, rat rod is a derogatory term describing a car that looks cobbled together and is unsafe. I've seen suspensions that look dangerous, I've seen a Tudor sedan that had its fuel tank moved to directly behind the driver's head, and another Tudor that was radically lowered, but didn't have a transmission tunnel. Four guys rode to the show in that one. Yikes. Watch that driveshaft. Essentially, it describes a turd on wheels.
  4. Rest in peace, Joe. I have Sherline tools. They are great for making model parts...just the thing for people who like to tinker.
  5. I'm digging' the cowl induction hood scoop. I wonder what kind of induction system it will have. Maybe a "sheet metal" manifold fed by a centrifugal supercharger or a pair of turbos.
  6. I saw a thread like this a while back. There was a photo from an Asian kit with English paint colors listed. One was "semi-gross black". Hey, relax, it's only SEMI gross.
  7. You can get decals that are solid sheets of various colors. Just cut out stripes and apply them. You can also get blank solid sheets. Airbrush the color you want over that, cut stripes out, and apply them.
  8. Also...this thread. Wow. Maybe someone could make a diorama of a train hauling some of these engines...about to wreck.
  9. An old COE like a resin White 3000 or '35-'39 International would be awesome. My idea would be make it FWD; turn the engine around and have it go to a heavy duty axle turned upside down. Cover the engine with a sleeper. Now the rear end can be super low. Make that a slide-off flatbed and have it carry a belly tank land speed racer. That would be one wild race car hauler.
  10. Ugh. Posting by phone is such a pain.
  11. Wow. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings.
  12. I once read about using screen as a mask. Spray some black, lay down some fine screen, then spray the other color. If your internet search didn't get good results, try better search terms. I used "painting fake carbon fiber" and got lots of hits. Add "scale" or "model" to narrow it down. Kinda like thread titles.
  13. Or Jeffery Lebowski's assistant Brandt in The Big Lebowski. Rest in peace, brother.
  14. How is it relevant to the topic of this thread? How is Street Rodder arriving two at a time relevant to this thread?
  15. How is that relevant?
  16. Hot Rod too? That sounds like the cover of Car Craft.
  17. Update pic It looks SO long. I got the idea from a shop in Lagrange that puts long beds on Dodge Megacabs. I wish I could afford that.
  18. Wow. All the complaints are from guys who want to live in the past. That's not a bad thing, but it may mean that magazines that are exclusively about old cars may be a better choice...it doesn't mean that HRM sucks. Carbs and stripped-down Camaros are fast becoming a thing of the past. Guys who built hot rods back in the '50s and '60s didn't shoot for the retro "grampa built it that way" look. The styling of the cars may be timeless, but what's under the hood doesn't have to be. Was Stu Hilborn a heretic? I say no. HRM is changing with the times. I'd rather see efi swap articles than those two-wheel v-twin turds they put in the magazine for a while in the '90s. I think they are doing a great job. That's why I subscribed for the first time in about 20 years.
  19. It's 2014. Computer controls have given us street cars with 1000+HP, docile enough to be a daily driver. Ford and Chevy both have cars with 600+ and a factory warranty. Why would anybody want a car with no heat, a/c, power steering....ugh. No one wants that. You can have all those comforts and still do everything better than the '60s cars.
  20. Ira- I have a Jetson's car that I bought for parts. If you want, I can take some measurements to see if any of it is useful to you. The canopy is perfectly round, though.
  21. Wow. I shouldn't have paid eBay prices for three Stutz Blackhawk LSRs. No sour grapes here, though. It's great that everyone will have the chance to get these kits again. I'm looking forward to getting some of the Millers and Duesenbergs.
  22. Love will no longer keep them together Young and beautiful no more, his looks are gone When then the others turn him off...so does she Up next: The Wedding Song But seriously- it is kinda sad. The music may seem campy today, but it really did fit the times.
  23. The anomalies in the link could have a much simpler explanation: someone replaced parts using a later issue kit, then resealed the box. I know video rental stores could seal their used movies. How many other businesses could do the same? Plenty, I'd guess.
