  1. Gotta build something! I love the lead! I'm cuckoo for candy! I'm passionate about pearl! I've been lost since Custom Clinic disappeared. Greg and Mark- you guys rock!
  2. That sounds good. I was thinking of some sort of clip-on metal heat sink. No reason not to use both. I have "Cool Gel"; a spray gel that we plumbers use when soldering. I suppose I could use it and mix in some shredded paper. I definitely need to get a smaller torch, though. Maybe even break out the resistance soldering outfit I got for a song on eBay. The seller misspelled "resistance" and I got it for $36.
  3. It would definitely be easier to mill a fish mouth onto rod, rather than thin wall brass. My concern would be keeping the heat from melting nearby solder joints. I might need to come up with some sort of heatsink.
  4. The two main hoops will be close to 4.5" o.d. I'm hoping that will be a gentle enough bend for brass. Maybe copper for the smaller hoops. This is not a replica of an existing car, but a model of a lakester I would like to build.
  5. I'll find out. Thank you.
  6. I want to build a brass chassis and need to make a few full circles of 1/4" K&S tubing. It's a large scale lakester chassis. Thanks. Lee
  7. Jim Busby raced a dragster with two of them.
  8. Nice cheesecake. :-)
  9. No, but I saw one on Black Sheep Squadron.
  10. Craigslist transaction. I had a deal to sell two Mustangs to a guy for less than his wanted ad indicated. A day and a half after he was supposed to pick them up, he canceled. He did ask if I would sell my 4" cowl induction hood. NO,YOU STUPID CLOWN! Gee, what is it with Craigslist and flakes???
  11. Tonight's dinner with veggies from the back yard. Sautéed Zucchini with bread crumbs and grated parmesan. Pechuga Poblana; grilled chicken with sautéed poblano peppers and onions, topped with Monterey Jack cheese and green onions...and canned corn. Chicken recipe is a copy of a meal from a local restaurant. Turned out great!
  12. deleted
  13. I have a couple of those Ganbusters Lincolns. I can check to see what they have. I believe there's a Thompson SMG (tommy gun) in there.
  14. I did think of using dentist's chair as an astronomical binocular or telescope mount. Imagine having it fixed in place on a chair that reclines and automatically follows what you're observing. (That feature would have to be built, but it is entirely possible)
  15. Check eBay for a small drill press. You might find some quality old iron. Also look for a Sherline rotary table and tilting angle table. Those two accessories Will let you index the holes and drill them an an angle...but how will you get the wheel "blank"? Just get the Sherline lathe and mill package. It's inevitable <grin>
  16. My daydream is a '56 Continental MkII. Not much else can be done with the tooling (as far as I know). I certainly won't say Möbius would be "making a huge mistake" by not issuing one...but wow, what a car. Maybe a '71 Riviera in stock form and a low rider issue. Also- there's probably a reason why plain-jane versions of cars have not been issued. More people like the SS/GT/Hemi/big block version. The whole "I drove a '74 Buick to high school, therefore it would sell a million copies" is preposterous. Even the '64 Chevelle Z-16 kit was a dog.
  17. I didnt watch the news. What happened?
  18. This is the first time I've had veggies from my own back yard since I was a kid...back in the 1970s. I picked one zucchini and 14 jalapeños. The zucchini got bread crumbs and grated parmesan, then sautéed. The jalapeños got stuffed. It all went with store bought steak and potatoes. We do have potatoes growing, though. Pretty cool, IMHO. I'll try to post a photo later. On my phone now.
  19. Pete- I agree on country of origin for tools. I have 2 dial calipers. One is a Mitutoyo I got for free from work, back around 1990. It still works fine. It does get dusty on my work bench, so I bought a Starret off Craigslist to use in machining. Models aren't tools.
  20. AFAIK, there is only one kit available. It's in 1/76 scale by Giesbers Models; a resin kit from Europe. If you want the standard armor scale of 1/35, you'll have to do some scratch building. The TOG II uses the same turret as the Challenger A30. SKP makes a kit of that tank. The TOG II has skirts that hide its road wheels, which means you would not have to build those. The tracks could be an issue, if they are unique to this tank. I don't know, but I suspect that it needed giant tracks to support its 80 tons in mud, so probably did not use tracks from another tank. If you are not picky, you might get away with using tracks from a 1/25 tank. The hull is all flat sheet and rivets/bolts. It's old school scratchbuilding with Evergreen sheet styrene and rivets/bolts from a source like Tichy Train Group.
  21. Wow. This was predicted on the show "Beyond 2000" about 20 years ago.
  22. Nothing. I like to buy American made tools.
  23. My employer. I requested to get off work early today, so I can pick up something at a freight terminal. I was told yes, but that changed this morning. Now I'm trying to arrange having a friend meet me at the terminal with his pickup and trailer. The whole reason I have to go to the terminal is because work wouldn't let me have it delivered to our shop. It's big enough, we have forklifts and a dock, but the answer was no, because they were afraid my freight might get damaged. The friend with a pickup and trailer is a field supervisor. He had a bathtub at the shop and management gave him a hard time, for the same reason. There's a manager at work who keeps his personal trailer in the back lot. I think I'll look for a new job. Management doesn't seem to understand that EVERYBODY is hiring plumbers these days.
  24. I'm confused about lack of information in this thread. Why does everything have to be a link to some other site? Why can't people just write a quick summary of what they read somewhere else?
