You can get styrene rod or tube from Evergreen in lots of different sizes. It will be consistently round and not have a mold parting line. I believe the standard length is 12 inches. That might make the project a lot more practical. Edit: Evergreen also publish a book on using their styrene products to scratch build and modify models. Definitely worth picking up...IMHO.

Wagons that HAVE been kitted . . .

If we're going to include phantom build options; -
should i do it? "67" 1/8 gt500 altaya
LDO replied to Yentl's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Heck no. If you can write a check for it and never notice that the money is gone, then hey go for it. If that's expensive for you, then don't do it. There are so many other good ways to spend $1000+ -
Wonder what kit makers think?

AMT's Budd "The Cat" Anderson published articles in the '60s about kit bashing their models into new projects. He also did plenty of "whackin' plastic" as he called it (modifying, not just trading parts around). I got a Chevy inline six from a Galaxie, LTD kit from someone on this board. It didn't have instructions. I e-mailed the mfr and told them about my model engine swap project. They e-mailed a PDF of the instructions. I would think that the designers are thrilled to know that we are buying their products and modifying them. I'll bet there are already lots of Moebius Chrysler hemis in hot rod models. -
Some people decant model spray paint into an airbrush paint jar. It's already thinned. Tamiya have lots of colors, but of course you could mix custom shades, too. There's a tutorial video on this at Hyper scale.com by Brett Green. He uses a cut down flexible straw held onto the can with poster adhesive. He puts Saran Wrap over the jar and pokes a small hole in it, to minimize wasted paint. After decanting, let the paint sit with the lid loose on the jar so the propellant will come out of it. This works well for many modelers. You may wish to mail order paints from another source, but decanting Tamiya lacquer is a great intro, and you don't have to wait for mail order (if your LHS has a good selection of spray paint). Yes, I am biased towards Tamiya spray lacquer.

Are ALL tree huggers idiotic and opinionated?

There should be an IQ test for online reviews. I read Yelp reviews for a local Chinese restaurant that I really like. There was a one star review because of price. YOU KNEW THE PRICE BEFORE YOU ORDERED!!! I've seen two reviews for my employer from people who were not customers. Stupid.
-
One example of why online reviews are useless.

That's who builds models these days; people who started as kids and never grew out of it. You don't see teenagers buying many $170 Tamiya model airplanes or $60 armor kits.

I found 'em! My old cars!

Wow. There were no carbon fiber hoods when I was a kid. -
When you mentioned that trailer, my first thought was impossibly long sleeper.

Or just go Pro/Street. The tires from a Muscle Machines diecast 1/18 car are just right for 1/12. Nice and fat.

I'd say 4-500 bucks max for Tamiya quality/fit/detail level in 1/8 scale, but it would have to blow Pochers out of the water. Not hard to do, IMHO. Forget silly things like rotating crankshafts. Just concentrate on visible details. For subject matter, everyone will have a different answer. I could see spending that on a Duesenberg or other pre-war coachbuilt classic, or on a popular Ford other than a '32. For that kind of money, it should have a stock option as well as street rod. I can't think of many new cars that would appeal to me enough to spend that kind of money.

Close to $1100 US for a diecast car. Too much for me, and I'm a big fan of that car.

That poor Cadillac never hurt anyone. -
Yeah that's a cool idea, but the pay as you go idea is for the birds. The price is outrageous by the time it's paid for.

I can try to post more pics when I get home. They're on my phone and I'm having trouble posting them. -

The 1/8 Cobra is 3-D printed by TDR/Shape ways and costs hundreds if dollars, maybe over 1k. I would like to see a 1/8 scale '29 Ford roadster or Tudor sedan, either as an all new tool or as a modified reissue of the Big Deuce; just a new body for the deuce frame. I think a 1/6 scale Suzuki Hayabusa would be an awesome addition to Tamiya's big bike lineup. Lots of different ways to build that one.

2000 Cobra R for sale on Ebay
LDO replied to Quick GMC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Why? Just to say you have a limited edition car? Add a little boost to another Mustang and do the same thing with air and the radio on. -
1/12 Tamiya Porsche 934 rsr

Is that boosted air going into plenums or intercoolers? Edit: oh yeah...nice work! -

No a/c or radio? To hell with that. -
The buyer was from a Ranger website. After he didn't show up, I looked on CL and found a wanted ad. That guy bought the parts last night
