  1. my two favorite wish list topics were locked. what hurt could they do? take up bandwidth or pixels or whatever it's called? yet all the while the "attaboys" are allowed to run rampant. good grief; what one has to endure for free. and Carstens is in the dumpster. that is all.
  2. needs some tin foil on them rabbit ears
  3. it is a rush, huh?
  4. no love for the Beetle split? I think '56 was the cut off, then the oval for a couple of years.
  5. they're bad guys if they do their job, and if they don't.
  6. I've got projects going so long the manufacturer should be sending me residual checks...
  7. I was always afraid to put on the earphones @ Borders. figured at least 1 of the thousand people who did before me had ear-cooties.
  8. that wagon came out swell. my uncle had one with wood paneling and branding iron things on the seats. I remember it had vacuum windshield wipers so if it was raining and he was driving uphill, well, he'd have to back off the throttle to get in a few swipes of the blades and then punch it down again.
  9. Michael's coupon value varies by the week. some 10%, some 40%. Hobby Lobby is consistently 40%. Michael's doesn't have a good or frequently changing selection of kits. Hobby Lobby has about 10x the variety, is usually changing x the week, and they have the sundries to go with the kits (paint, abrasives, glue, tools). don't have a Hobby Town near me, but there was one about 30 years ago. it was well stocked, but on par price-wise with the LHS, so I never frequented there.
  10. frequent any of the tool/ garage forums and consensus: sears is in the gutter
  11. with the exception of having the grumbly old owner behind the counter who has everything in the hobby for the past 50 years memorized, I can't think of anything negative about HL shopping. the one I frequent is expanding their wares weekly. great selection of kits, paints, & tools. as consumers, we've become so fickle and expectant of unlimited choices (of everything) that there's almost indignation when we have our selection limited to 2 or 3 items. I don't mean we need to accept everything HL serves, but let's use them for what they are so the can grow, too. I doubt we'll never single source our hobby needs, but we do need good suppliers.
  12. that's what one of the HAMBers suggested. I've just never seen it done (well) and whatever the end result I don't want it to look out of its era, or a caricature. one of the cars with which I learned to drive, although not a pickup. nor a V8, but I'm overlooking little details ....
  13. or Bo Diddly? played the guitar like a drum.
  14. low 70s for the past week. perfect early fall weather, no hurricanes on the radar, and the tourists are on the wane.
  15. I like the middle picture. i'll cobble up something; thanks.
  16. I understand there's no stake pockets most likely owing to that the vehicle wasn't designed to carry any appreciable weight, but in our perfect model world how could a rack be mounted to the bed? (google di'n't help) if it would be 1960 era construction, all the better
  17. as long as they have exact change
  18. maybe bringing up a web of hornets ... but Amazon Prime membership is a value in my magazine. it's about $8.50 a month, includes a Netflix style video membership, free return merchandise service, and two business day delivery for eligible items. works for me; YMMV.
  19. from a society which fails to follow traffic signals and is unable to make change for a dollar yet is expected to DIY its own solar array.... okay.
  20. I've had good luck with khaki or earth brown base, scribbles with a .01 art pen for wood grain, & then a coat or two of transparent orange. all paint Tamiya acrylic bottles. wood varies so much, nobody will tell you you're wrong with the end result, so it's just what makes you happy.
  21. the bears scare me ... car looks great
  22. all of these stories have a common denominator. there should be some pleasure in making a discretionary income purchase. this is why a great percent of my $$$ goes to internet companies. the big A being one of them. choice, availability, convenience - they're always open!, just cannot be matched by brick & mortar stores. every dollar I save in gas can buy paint or parts. the time spent driving to and back can be spent building. seriously thinking of marketing a series of T-shirts boldly emblazoned "Spoiled by the Internet". available in celadon, cadmium yellow, & ever popular cinnabar. XS - 3XXX
