  1. Maybe if Atlantis sees how well Round 2 is doing by cloning old molds, perhaps they'll be inspired to do the same with these old kits. I'd love to have a few of them. My dad died recently and I found a couple of pictures of him in the mid-50s when he raced Triumph and Harleys in Scramble races. It must have been a workout hustling those stripped down, but still heavy bikes over trails and sand dunes. In his 50s he took up trials racing again for a couple of years, that time with a much lighter two-stroke Suzuki DR. He said it helped keep him in shape, but eventually his knees decided to call it a day.
  2. Yeah, I don't even remember when I got it. I went through a spell where I was building a lot of Ford trucks.
  3. I think I've found my starter kit, this Monogram 1997 Ford Expedition. If I can find either the Revell Lightning kit or one of their 1997 F150 kits, I plan to put the Expedition body on that chassis and go crazy. You can see by the price tags that I've had this kit a long time. It's been up in my in-laws' barn attic for a very long time. I need to go back this weekend and see if I can find my other F150 kits. I'm thinking maybe turning it into an SUV Lightning maybe with modern Coyote power if that fits the guidelines.
  4. It will be a couple of days before I can go through my kit pile, but I have a couple of ideas and should have an entry by the end of the week. It says production engines, I may have missed it, but do they need to be from the same manufacturer? Say a 2JZ, Hellcat, or LS transplant into a different brand?
  5. Looking good!
  6. That's a lot of nice builds!
  7. Fuel capacity, plus safety. In the 1:1 world, fuel cells are needed in case of a wreck. Imagine driving 100+mph and some local decides to pull over in the left lane. You don't want 40 gallons of fuel dumping all over you and turning your car into a recreation of Christine. I figure that plus high speed capable brakes and tires would be called for.
  8. I look at Detroit Speed for my definition of a RestoMod. They offer a lot of bolt on go-fast parts including subframes.
  9. Excellent paint finishes, I'm envious!
  10. I hate to dogpile on Rustoleum, but I'm guessing the primer wasn't completely dry or reacted badly, or maybe was just a bad batch. Their quality control is not the best. For my Binford tool box redo, I bought four cans of Brilliant Blue, and two worked fine and the of the other two, one seemed to not have any propellant, and the other came out like silly string. The only differences were the batch numbers were the same on the good cans and the others were different. Anyway, most of my problems seem to come after using one of their products. For primer I switched to Duplicolor or Plastikote sandable primers a long time ago and they seem to eliminate a lot of issues. From the smell, they are a lacquer base and are compatible with every type of paint I've used and dry fast. I like them because I can sand them using ultra fine sandpapers and they give a great base. Rustoleum paints seem to work best under low humidity moderate temperatures to me, and even then they can still feel tacky.
  11. Not sure, but I think those stickers were on kits sold through Kay-Bee or Toy-R-Us for end-cap special sales. Maybe Christmas or something?
  12. Kind of like Smokey Yunick in NASCAR, always looking to obey the rule if not the letter of the law? Find the grey areas and hand out in them!
  13. An apology for the misleading title, it was three, not two, builds. Chalk it up to miscounting!
  14. Thanks for the best wishes! I hope for better health, getting stronger every day. I found out that three heat strokes in a week are not healthy. It took a lot of tests for the docs to decide it wasn't a heart attack, but I still came out of it shaky even in moderate heat. At the same time, my dad was in the end stages of Alzheimer's and lost his fight last week. Here's to a better new year for all of us! That's not all of them, but the rest are still being dug out of storage. I've been collecting more than building for several years. I used to haunt HL on their clearance days, so I also have a pretty big collection of American kits, but my interests for a while have gone towards Japanese and Euro cars.
  15. Looking good!
  16. It's the quality not the quantity! Nice work!
  17. I like the boat especially!
  18. Looks like you have some nice projects lined up for you!
  19. These two are the same kit, released in different boxings. From memory, AMT did several F Series kits in the early 90s, releasing them in several variants. The Lightning was based on the shortbox tooling, with Lightning specific parts added. AMT also released the promo version as a snap kit. There was also a short bed flareside version. There may have been others, but that's all I can remember. The cool thing is that the parts in the kits were interchangeable with each other.
  20. Several companies have popped up that convert old 911s and 944s into safari style cars. They are a fun model project to work on. I googled Porsche Safari and all sorts of cool ideas came up. https://www.motortrend.com/features/1808-luftauto002-the-safari-porsche-911/
  21. It's been a year of changes what with semi-retiring, and health issues. I did manage to get a workspace built, and found most of my modeling supplies and got them stowed away. Considering this was the hottest summer on record here in Texas, going out to the shop was all too often out of the question, even with the A/C going. Most of my shop time went to actually building the workspace. Then I got distracted by finding and shelving the unbuilt model kits I'd packed away after the last two moves. Oh, and I found six big boxes of unbuilt kits in my in-laws attic that I forgot I had. Anyway, here are the kits I managed to build this year. The first was Revell's Honda Civic kit which I built without the body kit. That kit didn't feel like it should be either Fast or Furious. The only real change was to add a set of custom wheels that weren't quite as low profile as the kit offerings. It's a nice kit that could use a reissue with more stock parts! The second completion was one of Monogram's old Porsche 911 Carrera kits. This kit is a curbside, low detail kit, but it allowed me a chance to let my imagination free to convert it to a Safari version featuring some scratch-built parts and some tires from an old Ford Ranger kit. This is a simple kit but I loved building them as a kid and had several. Finally, I came across an old ESCI Countach kit that I bought a long time ago. It's not a good kit, it made me think of some of AMT's old bad 70s kits. Still, I finished it in Cannonball style with the wings and driving lights.
  22. I just got that kit from Lionheart Hobby recently. Haven't opened it yet, but hope to get started after New Year's. Looks like fun!
  23. Not sure which way we wind up going, but stuff like this is giving me ideas! https://edbolian.com/a-photo-tour-of-the-2904-winning-mercedes-s55-amg/
  24. Sounds good to me! I have a couple of ideas to start with. Guess the ground rules will need to be worked out. Going by the pictures on RestoMod Academy, the cars look fairly stock with some flares and spoilers allowed.
  25. It's been a trying couple of months here, so I've been making contingency plans for various possible topics for a distraction. I'm coming up with ideas for different cars and such.
