Anyone Make A 1974 Trans Am Front End
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Something that occurred to me, are Monogram's 1/24th 1970 and 1977 Trans Ams the same kit with different front ends or are they totally different? Anyone know? -

Over the last year I've bought three Otaki 1/24th Porsche 911s at reasonable prices and they seem pretty well done for the time. I was wondering if anyone knew about the company or what happened to their molds. I'd really love to see the 911 reissued and even more, I'd love to get a copy of their Cheetah for a price that wasn't painful. Every time I've come across one of those it's in the $200-$300 range.

I've got a collection of mostly Monogram 1/24 Porsche 911s and for some variety I'd like to do one with a right hand drive dash. Does anyone know which if any companies produce a 911 with options to do RHD?

Maybe I should get one and bring it full circle by putting the body on a battery powered R/C chassis!

Nothing really for me in this batch, maybe next month. I've got several of the previous boxing of the Pinto, I couldn't tell if there was any difference between the new and old issues. Anyone know? Another question, is this the MPC kit or the AMT one? I'm wondering if the round headlight front parts will fit on the MPC Pinto wagon.

Steve Zimmerman on Facebook has some nice looking wheels and tires. His are resin with Pegasus tires, I think. I've bought from him and they were great. I think he sells under the name Zs Wheels, but not sure.

We're currently watching the Marvel movies in order and now I feel the need to build a Toyota 4Runner like the ones in the Black Panther Korea scenes. A search doesn't show a kit of this era 4Runner. Any ideas?

Courtesy of Walmart and Hobby Lobby's 40% coupons I have lifetime of the late '70s Ford van sitting on the shelf. I really hope Mobius will do the early 60s version. They're part way there with the drivetrain and frame from the pickups. I had one of the MPC versions a long time ago but it was 1/20th scale so I traded it.

1/25 AMT 1966 Mustang GT -- Original Annual & Modified Reissue
oldcarfan replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'll be getting a few of the '66 Mustang to build in honor of my dad. He had a 1:1 Mustang 2+2 and he built a couple models of it with the AMT kit.- 216 replies

Any Chance AMT Might Backdate The Dodge Van?
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
As far as Dajiban goes, it seems the short wheelbase is preferred, but the long wheelbase is also used. I'd bee happy with score marks on the inside to do my own conversion to SWB. -
I'm not familiar with this kit. Are they the styrene plastic or the vinyl? If it's vinyl, I've had decent luck with acrylic craft from Walmart or Hobby Lobby. Just be sure to use the flat and not the glossy versions. They seem to cover better.

I've had Dodge vans on the brain lately and it reminded me of something I think I heard a couple years ago. I can't find anything about it so maybe it was imagination. I think I remember a rumor about an early 70s Ford Econoline being a possible new kit, but haven't heard anything else. Could it have been Moebius? They've got a lot of the same parts already tooled up in their Ford truck kits. I'd sure like to see one. Similarly is there a Ford Transit available in 1/24th, maybe diecast? I'd like to do one in a Japanese tuner style thing.

Any Chance AMT Might Backdate The Dodge Van?
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
If they used modern technology for tooling, is it possible they could recreate the original body and the later 90s style in both a window and panel style to go with the rest of the original tooling? Maybe the way they recreated the Chevy II Wagon parts? They could do a nostalgia 75-ish Street Van with all the custom van accessories and some cool mural decals, then do the window version as a Cannonball ambulance and even add extra seats for a family van. For the later version, they could do special Dajiban version with a nice set of 16 inch Watanabes and some BF Goodrich wide tires. Add some Ferrari disk brakes, a pair of racing seats and steering wheel and maybe some toolboxes for the rear. Throw in some carbon fiber decal for the hood, and Japanese decals for the body. You'd still have to shorten the wheelbase, to be accurate, but if they put in score marks inside we could do it. They'd probably sell tons of them in Japan. Plus, all the extra parts could be sold as a separate parts pack kind of thing. -

They've re-released the Dodge van many times and I appreciate it, but how about backdating this kit into it's original version? The other thing I'd love to see is that same van in it's final iteration. I'd really love to do a Dajiban!

I came upon this on another forum and it reminded me of Christmases as a little kid. I remember getting a lot of these. I preferred 1/25th kits, but not having a lot of money, anything was appreciated. I wonder if the molds are still around? I'd buy a bunch just for the happy memories they'd bring.
