  1. Nope, I've had a REO on my to do list for awhile. Little different style cab (civilian) but probably the same base truck. Wespe resin from Eastern Europe does a lot of military models including a 1/24 GMC 2 1/2 ton truck. The GMC was closely related to the Chevrolet 1 1/2 ton truck. Not a REO but I bet it would be a good start for your truck.
  2. California has allowed snail mail renewal for years if you have a clean record, they also bump it to 5 years instead of 4 when the previous period was trouble free. They only allow this every other renewal though as I guess they figure after 8-10 years you will have changed appearance enough to require a new photo. Arizona has a huge period before you need to renew, something like 20 years but that is probably because if it was any shorter you would have to renew your license before you got out of the building. I lived in Arizona for two years and after dealing with their DMV I'll never complain about the California DMV again.
  3. I'm a big fan of our accidental 26th President, the very quotable, man of action, Theodore Roosevelt. or for those with short attention spans If TR was a model car builder today his signature line probably would be something along the lines of "shut up and build something".
  4. I think most plows have butterfly hoods because of the plow equipment. A tilt hood would hit the plow equipment, so they would have to dismount the plow to service the engine, kind of a pain for minor service.
  5. Not much lately, I run a fire engine for the US Forest Service so my summers get pretty busy. Since mid July I've been working 70-100 hours a week, which doesn't leave much time for getting to the bench. A good chunk of the summer I don't even get to spend much time in my own bed (usually a tent in some cow pasture or fairgrounds). October-November through April I work 4 10 hour days which gives me 3 day weekends, and since fires are few and far between that time of year I actually get my weekends. If I'm in the mood I might get 10-15+ hours a week during the off season.
  6. In highschool I had a friend who had one of the early Honda Civics. The shielding on the sparkplugs wasn't good, so you could hear the engine through the stereo. If you set it on a blank station and cranked up the stereo it actually sounded like it had quite a motor under the hood. The Prius is silent, we had one at work and there were a few times when it was moving around the parking lot, that the only sound you got as warning was the crunching of a piece of gravel or a little scraping noise of a tire when they turned the wheel. That car kind of creeped me out.
  7. I've used them a few times, no problems so far.
  8. Neat truck, this should be good to watch. What did you use for the front tires? They look like a good possibility for a long stalled Mack AC rescue I have. My Dad's step father helped build Hoover / Boulder dam and later the Shasta dam.
  9. I can't speak for that particular casting, but RMR resin kits are in general decent quality. They are not as finely detailed as some out there, but they are a good value. Ron is very easy to deal with and drama free, if he can't ship it right away he won't take your money until he can. I've been buying from him nearly 10 years now and have never had a complaint.
  10. Actually you can, I just saw a bottle of turd polish at Autozone today.
  11. It has actually been below normal here. It can go as high as 113F but we've only gone over 100 a couple of days this year and most days have been the high 80s to mid 90s. We even had a week of 60-70s in June. If this is part of climate change I say bring it on.
  12. As I recall the 2005 Ford Mustang and 2006(08?) Dodge Challenger kits came out pretty close to the actual cars being available. I guess that is possible when the auto maker cooperates and the model company thinks they will have a sure thing on their hands. How long did it take for Tamiya to do a Prius? Probably not the same kind of confidence in sales as a sexy new sports car.
  13. I can't comment on the Plasticote - Valspar connection, but I've used Valspar paint once or twice and it seems like a decent paint.
  14. This perception may be due to how early generators worked. My Dad owned several Ford Model As in high school and college (late 50s - early 60s). He borrowed a friends older Pontiac and blew out the lights on the highway. He said as he got onto the highway it seemed like the lights kept getting brighter and brighter, until they went out. Turns out the generator on those old cars had two speeds, one for streets, one for highway but his friend forgot to tell him about that and it wasn't something that needed to be done on the Model A.
  15. I found this in a Vons parking lot in Bishop, CA. Would not be a bad way to travel around and see the sights, yes it really is an RV.
  16. Some old barns The office Ok, so technically this is really the office (and it is on the side of the road)
  17. Some shots from my drive to work Apparently there is a wood carver in the area, some people are more creative then others when nature gives them dead trees / stumps. The cowboy is probably 10 feet tall, here he is compared to the street sign I guess there is never enough yard art because this old Chevy boom truck is on the same corner
  18. Yes, that is why many early cars used kerosene or carbide lamps. Many smaller (250cc >) non street legal dirt bikes still use a magneto ignition because they can save the weight of a battery, starter and alternator and not being used on the street do not require lights.
  19. Thanks, that is what I expected to hear. I'll just keep watching ebay then or hope Round 2 keeps digging out the old Model T kits.
  20. Funny that you mention that... http://powerfunctions.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx?icmp=COUSFR30PowerFuctions
  21. Actually you can order brick by brick direct from Lego. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Pick-A-Brick-ByTheme Like Old Hermit I use Legos in resin casting to make my mold boxes. I color coded mine by type of block to make it easier to find the block I needed. The price for the regular bricks is pretty reasonable. They also have a lego builder program you can use to make your own sets. You build you set in a virtual Lego world then if you want it will provide you with a list of every block you used. My son likes to build things in the program, which is basically an unlimited box of virtual Legos, unfortunately it is quite a bit more expensive to order the stuff he makes compared to the off the shelf Lego sets, so they usually stay virtual (not that he doesn't have an enormous stash of Legos already). He is also a big fan of the MegaBlock Halo kits which are Legos in all but trademark.
  22. I wasn't familiar with the term, looks neat. I found this document, it might be useful for answering some of your questions. http://www.iadc.org/committees/rigmoving/Documents/Gin%20Pole%20Truck%20Guidelines%20initial%20issue%20march%202010.pdf
  23. Choose one as appropriate not sure myself Sorry to hear you life took a turn for the worse, but glad it sounds like it is getting back on track. Nice looking truck you get to drive. Ever think about a mini bench in the sleeper? I've run across a few truckers online that have been able to get a little building done while on the road.
  24. Anyone use Prep-All? I sent my wife to a local paint shop that said they had Prep-sol (my work hours don't work with their business hours) and she came back with Prep-All. I assume it is a knock off but probably the same basic thing? Seems to work ok, the first piece I cleaned with it had pretty bad orange peal, but that could be due to my adjusting to it. I've always used Westleys in the past, but like the idea of not having to soak parts over night.
  25. Would the C cab body be of any use on a stock T using one of the AMT 3 in 1 kits or is it boogered up from its use on a hot rod? I'm thinking it might be a cheaper way to build a C cab Ford van than hunting down one of those 1913 kits on ebay.
