Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?
Pizzwizz24 replied to Synister's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I have the Pace 36" Deluxe. Definitely one of the best investments I made. Vented out of the window there isn't any stitch of fumes or odors during or after painting. It has 2 separately switched light bulbs inside which I put in two 100w daylight bulbs and there's plenty of light inside the booth. The intergrated switched outlets are also a great addition ( for a compressor and such). There is plenty of room to have multiple sub assemblies in the booth at the same time during painting if you choose to do so. Especially when using the extension shelf on the front. Only slight drawback is that the replaceable filters are an uncommon size so they are not stocked at the Home Depot or Lowes in my area but they'll order them in for you. I actually found an online shop that sells them even cheaper than HD so I'll order a box of 10 that'll get me thru at least a year. Of course I haven't had access to multiple spray booths to make a comparison to say which is better but just sharing my thoughts and experiences of what I do have. Chris -

Do you or don't you?
Pizzwizz24 replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm pretty sure we can all agree on that but Tom's initial question referenced "surfaces" and his picture displayed half painted chassis. I think this topic kind of took on a further twist and went to some extremes, as some usually do. Kind of like that game you'd play as kids on the school bus. As the joke made its way from the front to the back of the bus the punchline was completely different. -

I can't see any reason to agree or disagree with you Harry. Honestly, we're talking about areas that cannot be seen, right? So why would it matter either way? Kinda silly to debate anyone's preference on this one. Especially yours! We've all seen your builds and there never seems to be anything not detailed to perfection! So if it's not painted then it's definitely not seen. I choose to paint everything but I'm not talking detailing these small areas. A quick pass with the airbrush to cover the bare plastic is all I'm talking about. Not sure how much time or paint I'm wasting there. But again, all kind of irrelevant since the area is not visible. So I guess, ultimately, it can be wasted effort. What I find to be a bit funny is how it can sometimes be the tiebreaker or such for judges? Well.....if a judge can see it, then it is obviously not an unseen area and should be judged. Right? Am I missing something there? -

Pizzwizz24 replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I typically paint everything and because I can admit that I'm just way too "detail oriented" of a person (to a fault my wife would say!). I just cannot complete a build with bare plastic left undone. Just wouldn't seem complete to me. I know, I know..........I've got issues. But like I said, I can admit to them. Lol. I can totally understand the guys that don't paint areas that are unseen and those that don't to save money. Maybe if I were that way, I could finish more than 3 models per year and could afford to buy more! -
Painting ... Yeah Painting
Pizzwizz24 replied to Hollywood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I agree with all the comments so far 100%. I shoot primer on just about everything other than the flat black parts. I find it simplest to give a few mist coats on most of the smaller parts while still on the sprues then go from there. As for body parts...primer is probably the most critical stage. Prepping the body for its Basecoat is vital! Scuffing, gray primer, filling, sanding and more primer is usually my process. And like Skip says....second coat of primer is always dictated by the color of Basecoat I'm looking for (gray for darks and white for just about everything else). Sometimes I'll even add a few drops of the basecoat color to the white primer. Particularly when shooting reds. Basically creating a pink primer in a sense. Chris -

The hood looks amazing after all the work you put in and the shine you got from sanding the primer down to 12000 is the best part! Cmon man...... Look at that thing! That hood has been cut up, pieced together, puttied and all that good stuff and it's just about ready for paint?!!! FANTASTIC WORK KEN!! I know I'm not nearly as good or talented than most of the guys here but I sure as heck can recognize quality work and talent when I see it. I'm blown away Ken. Great work. Looking forward to more progress. And I'm with the other guys as well. Get someone to cast this thing. Sign me up for one! -
Another beauty Tamas! Always look forward to your Ferraris.

I have used Scale Finishes.... and from time to time I still do. I tend to like Zero Paints a whole lot more. I'd be absolutely lying if I went on to tell you about the chemical ( or substance ) differences between the two and why one is better than the other. The truth is simply that it just works for ME. I'm still kinda new to modeling and particularly to airbrushing (only started a couple of years ago). I tried so many different techniques as I started to learn and consistency was absolutely impossible and thinning correctly was getting me very frustrated. So I started to look for "airbrush ready" paints and found a few products during that research. I tried them all and Zero Paints was an instant hit. First time I used it I had finally had an awesome paint job that I was tremendously proud of and impressed with. Huge confidence boost there. Ever since, I seem to get a great paint job just about every time. Finally some consistency. They seem to just work great for me, or I guess my way or technique. Scale Finishes works well for me too. Probably a little less consistent than Zero Paints as I find them to be much thinner. I've become more familiar with their products and getting better results nowadays so I have been using them as well when I need a particular color quickly. Again.....great product but I found what works best for me. And I guess I've gotten a little lazier on experimenting, which is probably not a good thing. Also, I find that Zero's product lineup is far larger to shop for and their products are of great quality. I know that Jameston can make any color for whomever but the process is easier for me when physically seeing the color and label as opposed to researching a color and trying to find the color code. Typically, I'm also shopping for aftermarket accessories or tools when ordering so it becomes a one stop shop kinda thing. Again.....it's just all my opinion. I recommend anyone that is or was in my position to do the same and try them all and see what works best for them. Regards Chris

This is definitely a great build! Great vision on this one. I say street version. -
I use Zero Paints pretty much exclusively, besides Alclad and such for metals. I order just about every month from either Car-Model-Kit in Czech Republic or Spot Model in Spain. I Haven't had any issues with shipping to the U.S. from either. Orders from Spain usually arrive a bit quicker (about 15 days) and orders from Czech usually takes about 40 days but their paints are a little cheaper (about $1 per bottle). Either way I always get my order and their online stores always keep an accurate stock count so I'm more than pleased with their services. Their inventory is definitely a bit less than HiroBoy but that's expected since they are the manufacturer. I spoke with Steve @ Hiro just before the holidays and he is expecting to finally be capable to ship to the U.S. very soon using DHL. He just needed to get some sort of certification on packaging hazardous goods and I beleive that was scheduled for mid-January, so pretty much any day now. Looking forward to it cause his paints are fantastic and his color range is endless.

Wish I knew of this thread before ordering from Strada. I'm in the same boat. Ordered and paid for an item that was listed as "in-stock" only to find out that the items were actually NOT in stock. The frustrating part is that I only found out the items were not in stock because after two weeks of wondering why I never received any "confirmation" email or when I'll get my order, I finally sent them an email to check. Well...the response came days later and still without a clear answer to my inquiry. It's been a few months now and each month I send an email to ask about the status and days later he'll respond saying that he needs to look into it. Really? Now I have to wait a few more days for you to respond again? Couldn't you look into it before responding back to me just now? I don't get it !! This is good business? I hope others that intend on making a purchase from Strada have the opportunity to read this thread beforehand and get a chance to make a choice based upon others experiences and not from someone providing false information. If i was made aware of the fact that my order was out of stock and may take a few months of not knowing when or what would become of my purchase and have to pay up front for it, well then I would be content with my decision. But in reality, that's not how it took place. I was led to believe the items were available for purchase and shipped upon payment. That's my definition of "in-stock". And lack of communication means there is something to hide because the truth is always easy to tell. I'm going to start the process of getting a refund. I would guess that it's safe to assume that this will be another whole bunch of bull.

Your Cuda is so awesome! You hit this one way outta the ballpark! Vinyl top looks great and the seam lines give it that perfect realistic touch. I have such a hard time getting windows to look so clean and clear and some of you guys here know how to get them just about flawless. Great job all around Marcos. I really enjoy this one.
