Revell 1969 Dodge Dart GTS in code F8 Dark Green Metallic a
1972coronet replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
I remember that issue , and that F8 beauty on its cover ! That was back in 1995 ( I can't believe that that was 25 years ago already ! I'm 50 now... ) . I , too , was overjoyed with seeing a 1969 Dart kit ! I couldn't believe my eyes ! I've built a few examples over the years ( first one was German Silver Metallic with a red interior . I also used the 'Recall Wheels' from the MPC 1969 Barracuda ; second was silver-blue metallic with white interior ; and the last one was EV2 with black interior and MRC Keystone Klassics ) . Great to see that beauty again after all of these years ! -
I heard that in a Scots accent ! Haha ! ( I'm Scots , Welsh , and Irish ) .

It's going to take considerably more work than 'merely' creating stock fenders and quarters for that body . The front bumper and grille are incorrect for a 1973-1974 Charger ( the 'hideaway' headlamps disappeared after the 1972 model year ) ; the Hemi was gone after 1971 ; there's no engine compartment on / in the Petty (et al. ) Charger . The dashboard , interior tub , and seats from the 'street' editions of the Charger are correct for '73 - '74 ; the steering wheel is not . Ne'er-the-less... A stock 1973-1974 bumper & grille + the Fenton wheels + scoop to cover the supercharger cutout + the interior from the street editions = a great basis .

There's a new Bond film due to premiere on 30/06/2021 -- its title is Licence To Reissue . Diamonds may be forever , but licencing isn't...

That Petty-come-Street Charger kit has some nice castings (perhaps other 1/16 scale MPC Dodge Hemi kits are the same ?) on the block and transmission case . It represents Petty's 1973-1974 Charger ; the later iterations ( c.1982 red version with 80's wheels , and its c.1977 predecessor with the Fenton wheels and other 70's livery ) are "fictitious" , as there's no way that the 8 3/4 axle would survive on the street or track ; it'd snap in short order under that usage ( hard-launches , esp. with those wide wheels and tyres ---- Stock Car use is a different story ) . That's not to take away from it ; I'm not knocking it . It's a good starting point for a 70's 'Street Freak' !

Leaf Blowers ! The most worthless , counter-productive piece of "Blah-Blah-Blah" machinery EVER produced ! Granted , those of you whom reside in locales and regions where yards are big and fallen leaves are aplenty , the stupid things serve a purpose... However , out here in 'Apartment Land' , those pieces of "Blah..." do nothing but make obnoxious noises , kick-up dirt and sand and pollen , and destroy topsoil --- and frighten the (poorly-maintained) shrubs and plants ! Broken sprinklers ? Nah , we'll run two or three leaf blowers instead . No smoking on the premises ? No problem ; leaf blowers will blow allergy-catalysing pollen and dirt around for your pleasure . I seriously want to sabotage those "Landscapers" ( HA ! ) leaf blowers by putting diesel fuel in their blowers' fuel cells !

amt 1202 1/25 AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon - Craftsman Plus
1972coronet replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That's cool . I'd figured that it was an unassembled promo ( all Jr. Craftsman kits were , no ? ) , and I'm totally good with that . I'm just glad to see it returned to its stock iteration !- 599 replies

amt 1202 1/25 AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon - Craftsman Plus
1972coronet replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I recognise that this is a restored-tooling of the original ; and , I recognise that the engine compartment was reconfigured ( separate battery , chiefly ) ---- now , how's its engine "top" look ? I see the engine's "underside" ( a 'plate' , promo-style insert ) , and the separate bonnet (and the separate battery and other parts , to the left of the glass , by the QR Code) , but no indication of an engine "top" . Ne'er-the-less... That Nova Wagon , the Racers Wedge , and the GMC Jimmy are must haves !- 599 replies

I need this ( awesome ) kit as much as I need more holes in my shoes ! ARRGGG !!! Between that teaser photo ( thanks for sharing , Casey ) and watching HPIguy's build on YouTube , I'm sold ! Well , the opening boot is also a deciding factor -- seldom seen . -
"Polished" Stainless Steel Finish
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I can see the striations ( an artifact of the process , as you've mentioned) , but I don't really feel them . Even with my first attempt at decorating them ( Tamiya Light Grey Primer ; Rustoleum 'Stainless Steel' ; Tamiya Black Panel Line Accent ) , no recognisable plies revealed themselves ( i.e. , I didn't see the panel line mixture 'stop' nor 'puddle' at any 'intruding' striations ) . Perhaps the primer-then-paint provided a smooth surface ? Thank you for your advice and recommendations . I'll post some photos of the items as they are now (e.g. , before I put 'em in the Purple Pond' for stripping . I've got those two bottles of the Testors Metalizer on the way... ) . -
I'm guilty of exactly this ! Not on purpose , of course --- I just forget sometimes ( '999' Special Order vs. [E] F6 ) . IIRC , the Plymouth shade is the same as Chevrolet's Rallye Green The 1970 Hamtramck Registry - 1969 Paint Chip Charts Slideshow (hamtramck-historical.com) . Never-the-less.. gorgeous WM23M9A ! The addition of the 'rain drains' on the air cleaner base is a nice , oft-overlooked touch . Thanks for sharing , Tim !

Excellent ! Thanks much for the info and for the link ! -
Looks like a close match to Chrysler Engine Turquoise (last used in the 1968 model year ) . There's at least two different shades of Chrysler Engine Blue ( 1971 & earlier ; 1972 & later , with late-production 1971 340's being painted the 1972 & up shade ) . Cool discovery !

I recently purchased a set of Deluxe Wheel Covers ( 3-D printed masterpieces from Shapeways , from @camaro69: 1971 Plymouth Hubcaps (UNPLAS5SQ) by camaro69 (shapeways.com) ) for my 1973 Duster project , and am now attempting to provide them with their correct finish ( the 1:1 parts are stamped stainless steel with a 'polished' finish ) . The aerosol can of 'Stainless Steel' I'd purchased dried to a dull finish ( base / primer coat of Tamiya Light Grey Primer , aerosol ) . After letting them dry , I'd figured How about a silver Sharpie top coat ? Looked better , but... Even after applying Tamiya Black Panel Line Accent to the character lines of the wheel covers ( side note : the depth and precision of the parts from Rico are 100% flawless ) , the parts still lacked depth to them -- no sheen what-so-ever . Does anyone make a Metalizer-type stainless steel paint ? Naturally , I'd expect to buff / polish the finish --- I just need some suggestions . Thanks Much !

what 426 Hemi 1/24 looks the best ??
1972coronet replied to Mr mopar's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That conversion has been done ( S.A.E. , c.March 1987 issue ) by @George Bojaciuk; I did the same with the c.1994 modified-reissue 1971 GTX ( moulded in yellow iteration ) . George's conversaion is based on the c.1982 issue of the 1971 'Satellite' ( moulded in black ) ; he used the engine / transmission directly-from the 1971 Hemi 'Cuda Street Machine (non-stock air cleaner) . With the one I built , I used the GTX's Torqueflite ( cut-off the Hemi's 4 speed , then mated it to the 'Flight to it --- I didn't want to perform a correct Dana 60 conversion ) . Everything drops right-into place , and looks like it's meant to be there . The weak points of the Monogram 1/24 scale 426 Hemi are : - No oil pump nor filtre ( rob one from the GTX's 440 ) - No accessory engine breather ( should be on passenger-side rocker arm cover , per the 1970 & later EEC standards ) - No PCV ( roll your own ) - "Blob" Carter AFB's ( hidden-under air cleaner anyhow ) Do It To It ! -
Outstanding BS23V0 ! I'm partial to EV2 Tor-Red / Hemi Orange .

1972-1976 Duster Wheel Covers
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Rico , I just received those wonderful wheel covers ( 25.11.2020 at 17:45 PST ) , and they look fantastic ! I am going to wash them ( soap & water would be the best route , no ? ) , let them air-dry , then prime and paint them tomorrow (maybe prime tonight , barring any wind) . I will let you know if there are any depth-issues with the covers' character lines ( again , Tamiya's Black Panel Line Accent will be employed) . Thank you much for not only the prompt production , but for the prompt shipping ( two weeks' turn around time for a specialised product whose origins are in Germany is outstanding ! ) -

The parts which I had purchased are supposed to arrive today ( 24.11 ) , as they are at the local postal office as of 07:38 HRS ( PST ) . I have a can of aerosol stainless steel paint --- I will share photos of the wheel covers as soon as possible . -

Same with the kick panels (front) , sail panels (interior-side C-pillars) , and headliner . @mrmike, Yours is coming along quite nicely ! Tor-Red ( Hemi Orange) is a gorgeous colour... my '72 Swinger was factory EV2 . A friend had a '70 'Cuda 340 in the early 90's which was originally EK2 Vitamin C ( Go Mango) with white interior . Someone painted it generic white and converted the interior to black. I found shredded sections of the build sheet (typical Los Angeles Plant deal) shoved-under the dashboard . The car also had AM/8-Track 5 speaker stereo .

1972-1976 Duster Wheel Covers
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks for the heads-up regarding the character lines of the wheel covers . I'd figured that they were going to be faint with minimal , thin coats of primer and paint ( I have a can of 'Stainless Steel' that I'm going to be using ) . The reliefs will be treated to Tamiya Panel Line Accent ( Black ) . What year of the Scamp are you building ? Is it based-upon the resin 1971/1972 kit that was around ( Bandit Resin ? ) a few years ago ?
