  1. I favour 1/25 scale as well... But , until someone tools a 1/25 scale 1969 Coronet-Super Bee-R/T , the ancient Monogram 1/24 is all we've got .
  2. In spite of its inaccuracies , it builds nice . It's even easier to build a closer-to-stock replica these days (vs. the 80's - 90's issues) since Fireball Modelworks created : - Correct tyres and wheels : http://www.fireballmodels.info/ - 1/24 Scale induction setup : http://www.fireballmodels.info/ The only other two glaring faux pas are : - Power Disc Brake booster and master cylinder - Plymouth Satellite / GTX emblem on the back seat
  3. Hopefully , that guy at George's Garage is awaiting the recycling man to come along and buy those wheels . In the meantime , he's installing a trad paint scheme . Don't think that I've not seen exactly the outfit you've described --- I grew up in a Los Angeles suburb ! Haha !
  4. My favourite reference source is Hamtramck Historical . Here's a couple of links to the 1973 Dodge Light Duty Trucks ( e.g. , pickups ) : https://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1973ColorAndTrim-07.shtml https://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1973DealershipDataBook-10.shtml
  5. 99% of the time , rubber band tyres and gigantic wheels on an older vehicle make them look like a Happy Meal toy . Wide white wall tyres , only on .c1982 & earlier . 80's , ad seq. , monochromatic is also gross .
  6. I laughed so hard when I saw this back when :
  7. That ancient kit whose origins date-back to 1967 (for the 1968 Charger annual) needs to be put-to-pasture . The Revell kit kills that inaccurate pile of "BLAH" anyhow... inaccurate from the start : - 8 3/4 rear behind a Hemi / 4-speed - 1966 & earlier type brake master cylinder - 'Road Wheels' ( colloq. , "Magnum 500" ) incorrect for a Hemi-powered vehicle for 1969 Add those to its age --and the requisite scribing and fiddling-- and it's not worth the trouble .
  8. Handsome companion ! It would appear that he's licking his chops or has an itch . Thanks much for sharing !
  9. The first Pinto kit that I built was the 1978 Sportabout MPC annual (when I was 8 years old) . In later years , I recognised the optional 351 with its "equal-length runners" induction , Dominator carburetors , headers , etc. However , weren't the P/S iterations' 351's backed with a Lenco ? The regular kit seems to have a generic TopLoader ---- and that miniscule , stock axle . Heck , it'd be cool if Round2 backdated the Pinto wagon to a c.1972 (which MPC didn't offer) along with a backdate of the Sportabout P/S kits ! Add a period-correct trailer to the mix , and we could have a Pinto-pulling-a-Pinto to the track setup ! Heck , even a dusting-off of the 70's E-150 as a tow vehicle would be nice !
  10. Out on a limb here ---- perhaps Round2 recognises that the Chevy II / Nova is a largely sought after piece ; and , that since there's a delay in Moebius' similar kits of the same subject , why not strike while the irons are hot ? The rest of the kit already exists (regardless of their age and simplicity) , so why not get that lead ? Maybe the AWB Chevy II hardtop kit will be bashed with this promo-style wagon by builders and bashers ? I see that as a viable reality . How much -- if any-- of the 1966 L-79 Nova would work with this '63 ? I know that the "1:1" X-body was redesigned for 1966 ; I don't recall just how different the two generations are .
  11. I cringe when I watch anything on YouTube *because* of the ad infinitum , ad nauseam ads ! I lost count just how many times a "BLAH-BLAH-BLAH" ad would pop-up two , maybe three , minutes into a video ! Other times , I can get though a 15 minutes Uncle Tony's Garage and not have my crust-in with so much as a single ad .
  12. I'd say 1980 , based upon what I remember the dealerships had in their parts departments when I was young . My aunt worked at Downtown L.A. Ford ; she'd bring promos to me from 1970 - 1975 ----- I'd kill to have the Maverick , Torino , Mustang ( and Mustang II ) , and Econoline promos again ! Remember in the mid-late 80's there were promos as well : - 1984 ( ad seq. ) Corvette - 1988-1991 C-1500 - 1988-1989 Berlinetta And the early 90's : - F-150 - Ranger To name the ones I'm able to recall . But , you're right by-and-large ( not that I'm disputing a nit of your information ) . Further ; I'd like to believe that a reintroduction of promos would be an excellent idea . Kids will be kids --- give them something with wheels and brightwork , and they're happy .
  13. The prospect of a curbside being priced in the same realm as a 'full detail' ( a relative term , esp. when it comes to c.1960's AMT promo-come-kit offerings ) is a bit of a turn-off . However , when one considers that this subject is truly obscure , and is highly sought after , that ~ $30 MSRP isn't comparatively bad (versus some annual that's a built-up , and looks like it sat at the bottom of a fish tank since 1965 , whose seller is asking $100 + ) . I just hope that the "Un-Bossing" of the Boss Nova is cleanly executed (e.g. , not rife with sink marques nor radical "core-shift") .
  14. Were both copies "short-shots" , or just one of them ? From whom did you purchase your copies ? Hopefully they'll send a new one to you --- a new kit . I've not had to use Round2's parts replacement services , so I can't speak to how they'd handle this .
  15. Thanks for the , um , " ad hoc" advice ?
  16. That kind of 'progress' ( gentrification ) has been going on since the mid-late 80's , at least in big / bigger cities , esp. on the east and west coasts . The former Ford Plant in Downtown L.A. (closed in c.1929 ; relocated to Terminal Island) on 7th x Santa Fe was repurposed into some hipster paradise (at least the main structure was left intact) . Next thing you know , these developers will be turning asbestos mines into gastropubs and multi-family living quarters... ...in a non-smoking environment .
  17. Oftentimes , failed or failing emissions controls were the demise of these --and countless others-- vehicles . As the 70's 'progressed' , the miles and miles of vacuum hoses ; the sealed , non-adjustable carburetors ; terrible fuel economy with high fuel prices , and ;weak drivetrains ( like the TH-200 trans for an instance ) , all lead this vehicles to an early demise . Quantify those aspects by adding road salt to the mix , and there they go . Certainly 'Cap & Trade' and 'Clunker' programmes also were instrumental in salvage yards filling-up with these cars . Now when one finds a decent example or a well-preserved example , they fetch a high price . This is in direct opposition to the "no-car-built-after-1970-is-worth-anything" mentality during the 90's and earlier .Back in the 80's through the mid-90's , 1971 & newer vehicles could be had on-the-cheap... ...I miss those days.
  18. Those "Times Square" , "Freemont Street Experience" ads have been around for at least a month , if not a bit longer . 99.9% they're NOT even related to anything in this forum ! Beauty salons , and the such , ads have NO PLACE here , period . And , the fact that their placements are so arbitrary only makes their presence even worse ! Advertising has become an overbearing practise over the last 20 , 25 years ---- who's their target audience ? As a member of Gen-X ( Blank Generation , et al. ) , I'm not finding anything relatable in these ads . Matter-of-fact , I'll go out of my way to NOT purchase from these corporations , even if their product is something I may otherwise be interested in .
  19. 16 years ago I built the c.1983-issue 1971 Satellite . I was hoping that the air cleaner from the AMT 1971 Charger would work --- too small ( 1/25 scale air cleaner vs. 1/24 scale vehicle ) , and it sat too-high on the carburetor . Would like to see Harts Parts give it a go : intake , Holley carburetor , correct air cleaner , and appropriate decal . As a side note ; I've got a compulsion to rebuild that 'Satellite' . I've got an aerosol can of Curious Yellow with its name on it .
  20. That's a very real possibility . There were so many garish cars in the 'States in the seventies ---- power levels dropped dramatically , just as ostentatious decals and emblems (and upholstery patterns) were coming in .
  21. Well , sunny beaches... It would ostensibly seem that the fender emblems on my friend's 1978 Hatchback ( 350 four barrel / TH-400 / towing package ) were bigger-than-normal . Upon further research ( mainly looking at brochures online , Nova from 1975-1980 ) , I must concede . At least the kit's emblems are easy to detail , esp. for myopic folks like me .
  22. I love those photos ! He's chewing-up that '77-'78 Monaco ! Fostering companion animals is such a wonderful act . My girlfriend's neighbours foster cats ; the latest one was Bob ( the name my girlfriend gave him because of the cat's short tail ) . He was so friendly and handsome --- I wanted to bring him home , but he was already spoken for . Enjoy your new buddy !
  23. Thanks much ? . Yes , Buster is keeping me on me toes ! Haha . Diesel is adorable ! Such wonderful markings on that pretty face ! May he bring you and yours many years of companionship and love ? .
  24. Too bad that Revell didn't tool a correct single four barrel induction ( intake , carburetor , and air cleaner ; a Super Commando 440 air cleaner decal would be nice , too ) . The induction from the original 'Satellite' is aftermarket ; the intake looks like a Torquer type ; the carburetor is , well , a lump ; and the open element air cleaner is a generic --but nice-- piece . Those newly-tooled aftermarket wheels had potential ( and I'm not a fan of big-diameter wheels on classic cars ) . Too bad they phoned-it-in on those .
  25. The 'Nova' emblems on the fenders ( wings ) from that era were , indeed , quite big and "proud" . The scale is about spot-on !
