  1. I *believe* that those lamps date back to the 1966 Sonny & Cher 'His and Hers' kit(s) , which were Barris customs .
  2. Traction bars were largely deemed a hindrance to the Torsion Bar suspension's action , and were thereby almost universally ignored . Some early (1960-1962) Stock-classes MoPars employed experimental use of rearward-facing traction bars with mixed results . Truly , Chrysler engineered the rear axle to sit off-centre on the springs (slightly-forward of centre) , and a pinion snubber (adjustable in some cases , though not from the factory) to aid in traction . The 8.75" rear is a stout piece . However , by 1966 , it was deemed incapable behind the then-new 426 Street Hemi ; durability from repeated hard acceleration (e.g. , "Supervised Acceleration Trials") was the concern . 1965 was the last model year for the 8.75" rear behind manual trans equipped high performance and maximum performance engines (440 four barrel , 440+6 , and 426 Hemi ), though it did live on as standard with the Torqueflite .
  3. Is the white pretty solid or is it at all opaque ? Reason I ask is that , what would "prevent" a Gremlin owner from adding pinstriping to the factory decals ? I've seen exactly that on some 70's customs (original cars) ; the one which comes to mind is Zack Reynolds' 1971 Hemi'Cuda hardtop . When it was new , he had some-one outline the Billboard stripes in white . For the life of me , I cannot find any images of the car in its as-found condition ...
  4. That is beautiful !! First time I've ever seen Landy's "1970" A/MP Dart in-scale , and you've done it some justice ! I wonder if the "1:1" is still around ? I know that Landy had 2 LO23M8B's ; a 4-speed and , later , an automatic . Bob Lambeck piloted the A/MP "1970" Dart .
  5. How about Pic ? Don aka XJ6 ? I may be able to snap a couple of pics with my cell phone . That's very nice of you ! Check your inbox soon ...
  6. Thanks , Mark . The tail lamps lenses are in almost perfect condition , thankfully . Some-one must have opened this kit some decades ago , and then decided to just toss it into their stash . The headliner does look different versus later issues of the kit . Oh , and that surfboard is just plain cool !
  7. Thanks , Carl ! I'll have to look for that review
  8. I recently found an original , 1962-issue Revell 1956 F-100 at a local thrift store (!!) . The box was opened , but most (probably 95%) of its contents were there ; the original pinstripe white wall tyres , and the decals . The only thing missing is the instruction sheet ; the only flaw is 'tyre burn' on the Pontiac engine . How different are the kit's part numbers between the 1962 original , and the recent "Big Daddy" Roth version ? I can print the instruction sheet from Revell's site if the individual part numbers are the same .
  9. Here's how the rear axle looks in the finished model, I agree it's a little undersized but you can't see that it's hollow once it's all together. Two suggestions if you can't live with it is you could swap out the rear axle from the Polar Lights 65 Dodge Coronet. It's the same style but a little larger. I think that one's also molded hollow. The Lindberg 64 Plymouth or Dodge's would also work but I believe those kits have the Dana style rear axles. Both kits are pretty common to find if you don't have them already. Steve Steve thanks for showing what it looks like built.i decided to make my own mods to it.filling in the areas i want different...like the real one is.I have most of it done now.still working on the pinion top side...getting there.I will be drilling holes after I cut the snap pins off for the wheels...its fun to me.If you know...is this a representation of the 8 3/4 rear axle that was in these cars with the 426 wedge motor? 1965 was the last year that regardless of engine / transmission , the 8.75" rear was the only game. 1966 models had the Dana 60 ( ending in 1972 ) behind the following : - 440 Magnum (Dodge) Super Commando (Plymouth) when equipped with 4-speed (3.54 gear standard , 4.10 optional) -or- Super Performance Axle Package (automatic ; 4.10 gear) - 440 Six Pack (Dodge) Six Barrel (Plymouth) : standard and only diff with the mid-1969 Lift-Off Fibreglass Hood was 4.10-gear Dana 60 ; 1970-1972 when optioned with 4-speed ; 1970-1971 Super Perf Axle Pkg w/ automatic - 426 Hemi : 8.75" w/3.23 gear with standard automatic ; 3.55 Performance Axle Package (automatic) . Dana 60 with 3.54 gear w/optional 4-speed ; 4.10 gear with Super Track Pak [sic] (4-speed) or Super Perf Axle Pkg (automatic) The 8.75" diff is a solid piece . How it survived behind 4-speed-equipped cars (with the 426-W or Hemi [1964-1965]) is either a testament to its strength or an often-replaced sub-sized rear .
  10. I did too. Have it upstairs right now! Don't know. Will check. But I also have the 440 left over from the Hemi Dart. I will have to check to see if there is anything there and if compatible. RE : 383 / 440 from the 1968-1969 Revell Dart : the driver's side manifold is exclusive to the Dart and Barracuda , and is only correct for those two cars . Perhaps the exhaust manifolds from the 1967-1968-1969 Charger is a better ---albeit still incorrect for 1965--- choice .
  11. From every photo I've seen , that differential housing does look undersized . Not a deal breaker , not by a long shot ; just a disappointment .
  12. The Nash V8's : 287 and 327 cubes . I thought that 1966 was the first year for the 290-343-390 series ?
  13. Nice touch with that vintage KLOS sticker !
  14. First time I saw "S/SE" , I thought that the cars got reclassified ! Yep , huge difference between "SS/E" and "S/SE" ; a precursor to Pro Stock . I'm not too sure about the history / timeline of the blue-coloured headlamps on Sox & Martin's cars . Now , the blue-painted engines ...
  15. The 1968 "BO29" (and their Dodge relative , "LO23") were cosmetically-updated to 1969 front / rear , and campaigned in A/MP (though I have seen a Dick Landy Dart with "S/SE" [ Super / Stock Eliminator ] emblazoned on its door glass) . Sox & Martin also campaigned a 1968 Formula-S 340 in F/Stock . Cosmetic changes were common with the 1970 'Cuda convertible ; 1970 models were classed in SS/D(A) , whereas the 1971 models were classed in SS/E(A) . This was done via Chrysler fudging the shipping weight for 1971 , as they were hot on the tail of the Ray King 1970 SS/EA LS-6 Chevelle convertible .
  16. Wrangle up a Dana 60 rear while you're at it . The 8/34 is absolutely incorrect for any 1966-1972 4-speed / 440 or Hemi combo . Then there's that incorrect 4-blade direct-drive fan ...
  17. The tapered-end fits-into the backside of the wheel(s) , with the "bell" end facing the suspension .
  18. ...to add to the interior appointments and special orders discussion in general : - 1978 Ranchero , special ordered with rubber floor mats . Every-thing else was standard fare . (this was a friend's grandfather's vehicle. He said , "Carpet has no place in a work vehicle !" I agree .) - The "XL" trim level ; I have seen it two-three different ways , typically work trucks : (1) vinyl seat w/ carpet (2) cloth seat w/ rubber mats (3) vinyl seat with cloth inset , and either carpet or rubber mat . - 1983 F-250 XL , 351M / creeper 4-speed , extended cab , long bed , vinyl seats w/ carpet , and rubber mats for the rear passenger / storage portion of the cab .
  19. I again assert that this could be done ! Revell = based-off of their excellent Z-16 AMT = backdate the 1965 Chevelle wagon
  20. That's right : Dodge Fever II ! It's been absolutely decades since I've seen that issue (had the SAE issue when it was new ; a 20 year anniversary or some-thing of the infamous MPC / Chrysler / et al. contest . I do remember that Keeler , to paraphrase the article , "Visited a dental supplies store to get the [plaster ?] to fill-in the hollowed-out engine , and add a crank and rods ..." , and that the car Keeler started with was a 'Freudian Slip' in that he misread the rules , and instead started building from either a '68 Super Bee or a '69 Super Bee ( both ostensibly MPC annual kits ) , and had to start over on the project ( !! ) . Thanks for the memories , Tim ! Although I was born in 1970 ( I Feel Alright ) , I have a life-long love affair with the era which preceded my current existence
  21. Thanks for this excellent topic , Tim ! I remember the Scale Auto Enthusiast issue from c.1987 which exhibited the original build of Keeler's Dodge Fever , and its stablemate Super Bee-based build (it was red ; I can't recall its nomenclature) . The article focused on a twin tribute build , IIRC (though my memory's getting hazy) . I didn't realise that you were a part of this contest , too ! And 4th Place isn't bad at all ! The question is begged : what became of the 3rd Place contestant ?
  22. I'm surprised that no one's mentioned the Chevelle 300 Deluxe 2-door wagon, which could easily be modified from the AMT '65 wagon ... 1963 Tempest Wagon Super Duty ! 1971-1974 Coronet or Satellite wagon 1978-1990 Caprice wagon
  23. I'm embarrassed to admit that I'd forgotten about the '70 Deuce at the time that I replied to your candidate . I guess that my thinking was , The 350 is an RPO offering ... but not the LT-1 !
  24. 1958-1959 Fords were so gorgeous ! In my opinion , they looked better than anyone else's offering those years ... The Ranchero is an especially nice canvas for customising .
  25. If only they did a 1968 , 375hp 396 / TH-400 ; the only COPO Nova !
