I'm looking forward to that 1/16 scale 1955 Nomad (they sell for too much on 'bay !) and the 1/25 scale Pacer Wagon . The former I had over 30 years ago ; the latter around the same time (maybe closer to 35 years) . I bought it for 85 cents at FedCo in Pasadena !

Don't you just hate it......

Like Tom said ; it appears that Round2 has that AMC Pacer Wagon slated for reissue this year ( !! ) . Worst thing I ever lost a bidding war on ? A pair of vintage 1966 Renauld 'Sea & Ski Spectaculars' sunglasses ! I'd figured that they'd go to ~$200 tops , so I set my 'Max Bid' at $225 ... ... they ended up selling for $800 !!! -
What happened was that the then-new 1960 Valiant ( The first of the A-Body line ) had to be engineered to work with existing assemblyline practises and mechanics (e.g. , Los Angeles and Hamtramck , and their ages-old facilities ; St. Louis , Newerk , and other plants weren't around in 1957-1959 ) . The body-on-frame process had to be maintained to an extent , that's why the separate K-member was introduced ; the K-member / engine / transmission / front suspension / brakes were assembled , and the bodies dropeed-onto them [ here's a link to Allpar's with vintage photos of the elusive Los Angeles Assembly facility : http://www.allpar.com/corporate/factories/los-angeles.html ] . As far as the employment of 1950's frames for the Valiant ( not yet under the Plymouth banner ; a separate line of cars sold at exclusive deallers ) I don't know . The last full-perimetre-frame MoPar built (passenger car wise ) ? The 1965 Imperial .

If I ever hit the Powerball jackpot , I'm going to buy a Prius or Leaf and stick a 6V71 in it ! Ha ha ha . -

Steven Spielberg ... Especially Duel ( 11 / 1971 Movie of the Week ; 1972 theatrical release) John Carpenter ... I love his "remake" (okay , even I barfed in my mouth as I typed that) of The Thing , and of course , They Live William Friedkin ... absolutely for The French Connection ; and , a related person : Philip D'Antoni ! Produced Bullitt , then produced and directed The Seven-Ups .

That's one of the things that made Punk so great : the return to the intimate venues ! Granted , I'm 46 years old , so I missed out on the beginning ; how-ever , I did get to see some great L.A.-area bands in the late 80's (though I did miss out on Rozz Williams' final show with Christian Death --sans George Belanger-- in '93 at one of the fledgling DeathRock clubs) . Dictators and Wayne / Jayne County ... Hm ... now that must have been a show ! (did Handsome D1ck Manitoba ever forgive Jayne ?) -

That is so cool ! Did you see The Heartbreakers when Richard Hell was still in the band ? Have you read Please Kill Me ( the Uncensored Oral History of Punk ) [Legs McNeil , et al. , 1996 ad seq.] ? I highly recommend it ! It starts with the Velvet Underground ; then to The Stooges and the MC5 ; onto Leee Black Childers / Main Man ; and finally Ramones , New York Dolls , The Voidoids , Television , etc. , etc. -

From the ashes of the original New York Dolls lineup , Johnny Thunders & the Hearbreakers were comprised of Dolls' defectors Jerry Nolan [drums] and Johnny Thunders [guitar] ; they were joined by Billy Rath [bass] , and Waler Lure [guitar] : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L.A.M.F. -
The C-body line had a subframe (think : Camaro and '68-'72 Nova) ; however , I'm sure that with your prowess , that you could scratch some-thing up to make up for the C-body-exclusive underpinnings . In answer to your other --and related-- question ; use the B-Body chassis as a starting point , then add a handmade subframe . Another consideration ; the C-body did not have a separate K-member ; it was part of the subframe .

Cover versions of songs by "nobodies"
1972coronet replied to Harry P.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
A friends' band whose name was 'The S.A.T.'s' (which stood for Sexually Active Teens ! Ha ha ha ! ) in high school performed a psychedellic version of the infamous 867-5309 (Jenny) song , changing its chorus to "TOpaz-7-5309" and adding early Pink Floyd meets The Stooges instrumentation to it . Unfortunately , no recording of it exists (that I'm aware of at least) ... and that was 30 years ago any-how ! -

Those are some great ones , Snake ! "Pre-Planning" , indeed ! Ha ha ha . Another colloquialism pertains to fuel economy : "I'll bet that your Cummins pickup gets crappy gas mileage !" . Well , actually , it doesn't use any gas ! Speaking of "DEE-fense" : I've long used the British spelling of defence (along with other "alternate" spellings) . Why ? Just to be different I suppose . -

Practically every-thing with "Pre" in its preface : - Pre-owned ( ostentatious way of saying "used" ) - Pre-approved ( really ?? You've got some documents that are already filled out for me to just sign ? ) - Pre-heat ( to paraphrase George Carlin : "How does one 'pre-heat' an oven ?" ) Another fun one is "Organic __________ " . Really ,now ... how many inorganic things does one actually encounter ? Then there's the beauty of the English language : every-thing is possessive ! For example : - "Did you change your oil yet?" - "Unclog my drain." - "There's dirt on your windshield ." - Your team sucks this year !" Small wonder as to why English is so difficult a language for non-English speakers to grasp ! Kudos to those of you --many members of this forum for instance-- for your practise of English ! I can only imagine what you've gone through to wrap your mind around its structure and possessiveness ! Ha ha ha . -
Thanks for the additional info , Snake . I remembered the Sports Car Conversion ; I didn't know that it was specified for every COPO (at least Camaro ; I've also seen that as being on the Chevelle , too). What was the OEM tyre size for the 9737 ? F60-15 ?
-
I *believe* that the 1969 COPO Camaro came with F70-14 tyres . Remember , the COPO's were not based upon the Super Sport models ; the tyres would reflect this .

C.A.R.B. (an ironic acronym for sure) is an antiquated agency ; and its chief architect is a hypocrite of the imperial order (Mary Nichols) . Where was C.A.R.B. when Porter Ranch was in turmoil ?? Where was The Great Bald Wizard (Jerry Brown) ?? Oh , that's right -- his sister just so happens to be an integral part of Sempre Energy (read: So Cal Gas Company !!) , thereby making her untouchable . C.A.R.B , S.C.A.Q.M.D. , and the other fledgling air resources board districts , all need to be disbanded and "reimagined" . Period . -
I screwed the pooch on the AMT 1969 Chevelle SS-396 Convertible that I'm working on . In my artistic mania , I was too focused on , How does that custom version fascia look ? In the process , I forget the most basic first-in-line improvement : the flippin' panel lines !! Now there's a little too much primer in the trunk lines and the doors' lines ( I shaved the door handles and needed some light coats of grey-then-red oxide primer as a guide ; that filled the faint door lines in short order ! Then I sprayed the same alternating-colours-of-primer on the quarters ( those needed some massaging ) and the fenders ( along the tops only ) . Of course the primer got-into the trunk lines ; again , they're faint to begin with .) . This oversight on my part reminds me of that saying : "Until you walk a mile in another man's shoes , you can't lead a horse to water ."

HA HA HA HA HA !! I despise those stupid stickers !!! It's like those infamous "DO NOT REMOVE !" tags on cushions ... ... but much more irritating . The best is when some-one adds tint film over that dumb sticker !! When-ever I get hold of a new vehicle (typically a work vehicle) that sticker is the first thing to hit the trash . -
Mopar Modeling Subjects
1972coronet replied to jjsipes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's what I feel is lacking in the MoPar arena : - 1967 Dart and or Barracuda - 1971 / 1972 Road Runner ( I'd be content with the MPC versions being reissued !) - 1974-1975 Monaco Police - 1977-1978 Monaco Police ( not too hip on that MPC kit ... ) - 1972-1978 D/W Pickups - 1970-1971 Challenger ( those Monogram-come-Revell 340 T/A kits are ancient ! Don't get me started on that caca diecast-come-plastic "thing" from a few years ago ! ) - 1958 "any-thing" with the Bendix Electro-Jector fuel injection ! - 1965 Coronet - 1970-1975 B-Van -
The Revell Dart chassis and suspension are nicer for certain , especially if one wishes to employ the nice (other than its distributor !) 383 / 440 with the Torqueflite . The AMT 1971 Duster 340 chassis will only work if one wishes to keep the 340 (needs to be modified to 1968-1969 water pump , "bubble top" radiator , and rocker covers format to be correct for pre-1970 340 applications) and the 4-speed . The trans tunnel will need to be modified for Torqueflite use , as it's too narrow . The hood from the 1969 Barracuda was indeed used on 1973-1976 Darts ; however , the fenders were definitely specific to the 1973 & up Dart (witness the cheesy 1972 & later "universal" side markers versus the 1969-only reflectors ; totally different .).

Back in 2009 , the will-remain-nameless auto parts store I work for "accidentally" received a case of "49 State" carburetor cleaner , and a case of "49 State" brake cleaner . I swooped those 2 cases up so fast ! Couldn't buy 'em fast enough ! Ha ha ha . Next day an email was sent out ; its message was to the effect of : ATTN : Southern California Stores : a mistake was made at the warehouses and "banned" cleaners [ part numbers 'x' and 'y' ] were sent to the following stores ____________________ . Please remove them from your inventory and send them back to the [ distribution centre ] ASAP ." Too late !! Ha ha ha !! -

As alife-long resident of the Golden (Showers) State : I think that the Republick of Kalifornia has bigger fish to fry vis-a-vis Porter Ranch ... That last Governor we had ---what's his name again ? Arnold Poopants ?---- is the architect behind the banning of cleaners that actually work . How about the 100% wortless brake cleaner ? Carburetor cleaner ? Parts wash ? Then there's the unavailable high gloss clear coats that many new cars have ; one can get the base / colour coat , but no-go on the clear (!!!!!). My brother-in-law goes to Nevada or Arizona to get the real stuff . BTW , that stupid "Prop 65" garbage has been around since 1986 .
