History of Monogram's 1940 Ford Pickup
1972coronet replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Thanks much for that article. Certainly I'm not alone in wishing/hoping that the tooling would be restored to its 1964 origins . The only error I'd noticed in the article was in reference to the 1985 ad seq. tyres: the fronts were indeed Michelin 390 mm (dating to the 1979 Mustang kits), while the rears were (technically still are, even in absence of name-branding ) Good Year Radial GTs (common in Monogram's Muscle Car kits from c.1981-present). Last time I built one was in 1985, 1986 (high school). I glued the doors shut after fighting with those hinges -- I'd imagine that original editions' hinges were just fine, but after 20 years of production... [ EDIT ] RE: The Michelin tyres: I was referring to the 390 mm wheels of the 1979-1984 Mustang, not the size of the tyres in 1:1. -

Looking for 68 Dodge paint match
1972coronet replied to Modlbldr's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Scale Finishes has those colours : 60s Dodge (scalefinishes.com) MCW : MCW Finishes I've never used either manufacturer's offering, so I can't personally attest to the quality, etc. Like you, I employ Tamiya aerosols (at least 97% of the time) -- too bad that the paint chips are such poor representations of the actual colours. Here's the direct link to Tamiya USA's site's aerosol paints : Shop / Tamiya USA -
I've been reading ShÅgun , which has been on my list since age 7 (but, mum wouldn't let me read it back then: "It's too violent for someone your age. Besides, you wouldn't understand it.") I can't argue - in my adult years - those points. It seems more detailed about sexual content and bodily functions than violence (haha).

That's a fun read. I've read it a few times (sometimes just certain passages). Leee Childers cracks me up ! Have you read Walter Lure's To Hell And Back ? Wonderful read by the most rational, accessible member of The Heartbreakers. The next music biography - an autobiography - I'm going to get is Time Between by Chris Hillman. He's offering signed copies of it via his website.

I have the c.2013 issue (first of the 'Retro' art series), but will be purchasing two or three of the new one as the aforementioned decals are worth it alone. Again: I wish that the DOHC Hemi from the Pro Street would find its way into the stock version...

Same here. Well, maybe three -- those Peacock Blue stripes (V6 & V8) and the V8F stripe are too much !

Rattle can "glop" leakage
1972coronet replied to plasticprime's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Testors cans have been doing that for - in my experiences - at least 15 years. I've never had a Tamiya aerosol can leak, and I've been using their aerosols for more than 20 years (one can was "bad", but that was my fault). The shelf-life of Testors paints have always been quite short, bottles and cans. However, at one time, if the can wasn't used-then-stored, its contents were fine for a while. But, once used - even for a spritz - they turned to garbage in short order. -

Give a listen to Rough Power [1972, c.1993] which was issued by Bomp! (now out-of-print). It's the early, "rough" cut of the Stooges Raw Power , and consists of a broadcast from WABX in which Iggy was in the studio (not on-air) with the tapes. I mention this because it's a fine example of how FM used to be in its heyday. -
What year did AMT move production to China ?
1972coronet replied to Ulf's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'd say it was around 2001, 2002. Their kits from 1998 were made in Mexico, which didn't last long (not sure as to why). -

Is that the longitude-mount trans. ? Is it a nice shifting gearbox ? -

1972coronet replied to peteski's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
[ see my response below ] Heck, that's more than my 1972 Swinger weighed, and it was a 'compact' during its era. I obviously didn't bother reading the article (my bad). Frankly, I'm surprised that it has a planetary gearset trans, as most new(er) vehicles have those junky CVT's (as @Ace-Garageguymentioned, good concept and theory, but awful in practical applications). Either way, nine forward gears is a lot to cram-into a transaxle (let alone a transmission). And, just as likely, it "skips" gears which the ECM [et alia] deems to be "inefficient" due to "demand" -- ostensibly an in es. CVT, but with planetary gears (solenoids replacing bands). -

And that small-displacement engine's in a 5,000 lbs. vehicle at that (perhaps a smidge hyperbolic on my part). A multiple-speed auto - planetary gearset - would be better than a CVT. Not by much (talk about 10 lbs. of dung in a 2 lbs. bag), but at least a step about those garbage CVT's.
