Looking good. I had my rear sitting like yours, but then decided to lift mine up just a bit more, while trying to keep some of the tops of the rear tires under the fender lip.
-
The first time I built this kit, I was disappointed with the fenders, and the way the car sat ridiculously high in the rear. Those were the two things that needed immediate attention to make it look somewhat similar to the box. At that time, I didn’t even know about, or cared about the other little things like the door pillars. And I surly wouldn’t have even thought about correcting the hood scoop. I found the Grump Lump, but for some reason I only have the cowl induction hood in my other 69 Nova box. Must have got misplaced.

Hahahahahah. -
I do have a Comp Resin grump lump that I was saving for one of da grumps Camaro builds. Maybe I’ll graft it on to one of the other Nova hoods I have. I have a spare because the other Revell 69 Nova is going to have the cowl induction hood.

It’s hard to tell but I also noticed that the box art car seems to have the rallys that is supplied. I think I’ll be using the Cragers.
-
Yea. I was checking out the old 1970s rule book. And I’m not a big fan of large scoops. I dunno, but for some reason that scoop looks like it belongs. Especially with the “Edelbrock” decal on it. For this particular build anyway. I still remember when this kit caught my eye many years ago.
-
Thanks Snake.. I think the scoop is a bit overkill myself, but I just want the car to look like it does on the box top. I’ve seen issues of this kit with a blue car on the box, but on the original box, the car always looked black to me. I especially like the “Edelbrock” decal on the scoop. So.. I’ll be sanding off the “Weiand” on the resin hi rise intake I’ll be using.

I hear ya.. even if I had an expendable income, I’d still be careful with my money. I’ve met quite a few people in my time that had more money than brains. -
I agree. This Old Pro kit caught my eye as a kid. I thought it was the coolest looking car. Then you were fooled by its contents. All I ever wanted was to have the car look like it does on the box. I’m sure a few people have done this before, but I figured I might as well too. I carved out the rear tail lights, to remove the separate back up light, but I’ll have to head to the LHS and get some red clear Evergreen.

Not getting too involved with this one right now. My carpal tunnel, ulnar nerve entrapment, and back problems have kept me from the bench. Especially when I have a few other projects to finish up. But I was toying around with this idea. Revell 69 Nova, with the vents removed, and the actual Old Pro scoop grafted onto the Revell hood. Stole a set of wheels and tires from the Dyno Don Comet. I’d like to paint it black, with the nice set of the AMT decals. What do you all think?

That’s how it all rolls, I suppose. It’s not a seldom thing to see an open kit with the two engine halves glued and painted, actually go for more than an untouched, pristine kit. Both sellers would have perfect feedback, so that’s not the issue. I could never figure that out? -

The big yellow directory of model car kits. Seventh edition. Bill Coulter. Like I said earlier, I get it’s just a guide. I notice some things go the other direction too. A nice semi rare kit going for less than you would normally expect. I bought myself a Johan 63 Dodge Polara for less than the guides price. If I remember correctly, I believe I was the only bidder on it too. The 63 Dodge just happened to be one of my “must have” kits, btw. I’m just happy I found one, let alone was able to buy it. -

I hear ya Snake.. been many times I’ve scrounged parts, bodies, hoods, etc, to get the project done. -

Good point.. anything can be re tooled, or re released anytime. I had the AMT original release of that Mack truck kit, (green rig on the box) that I sold for $120. Then a few months later it was re released with better quality rims, and anyone could buy it for $35. -

And then that thought comes into play... “ did I loose out on the kit over a buck or two”??? when the auction is over. -

Yes. Sometimes I wonder if owning those couple rare kits I want is even in the cards anymore? -

I totally understand. I also am a big fan of Stephen King, and collect his first edition books. I’ve seen some listed in a guide at a price, and seen them sell for 10 times that amount. But then sometimes you get lucky and get a great deal... go figure.?? -

how many built models?
Brutalform replied to Paul Payne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Due to allowed space, I have approximately 60 completed builds, and 60 unbuilt kits as well. It also seems I have about 10 projects going on as well. There are some completed builds I’ve sold, as well as 1 or 2 “in progress” projects as well. I really try to keep things in check with these numbers. As soon as I see some items not fitting on my current shelves, and getting placed somewhere else, I try to thin the herd a bit. I plan on buying a Pace paint booth, and an air brush set up, that will be set up and used in my model room as well. So I can’t see my collection growing anymore than me buying 3 or 4 rare kits I really would like to have. -
Not complaining, or anything, but I’ve noticed some of the more rare kits on the Bay are going for some big dollars. I normally check the price guide, then I really decide if I need/want a particular kit, before I decide what money I am willing to part with. I don’t mind going above the value listed in the guide, but lately, some of these kits are going for three to four times what they are listed in the guide for. As I do realize that it’s “just a guide”, and the market constantly changes. For example, I had my eye on a Johan Dyno Don Maverick kit, that was valued around $85 dollars, so I put a bid on it well above that, and now I was outbid with a new bid of over $200! Thats astronomical... no matter how badly I want the kit, I’ll have to pass. I do understand people can up the bid for someone, which is against Ebay rules, but it’s happening in many, many, other items as well, so I don’t think that’s the case. In closing, there are only a few kits that I really desire, probably three or four of them, that I would like to own, but at these prices, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Isn’t the top grill with the markers a Comet grill?? I know the Maverick had them too since 71.

If you could give me some of your 1980s pointers in model building, it would be much appreciated!! Because that is one fine looking Camaro you built. Very clean, and detailed. Nothing here that would take your attention away from the subject. Very nice.
