Looks nice, but it's first 25,000 miles have been frought with electrical gremlins. Everything has a sensor - even the dipstick! So the fuel filter thought it was plugged with less than 10k miles on it and visually was obviously not. This past weekend some other sensor in the ECU for the forward facing radar nanny went on the fritz and took my adaptive cruise control with it.

The one downside of coiled airlines is that if you have drivers who need their entire air line color coded - instead of just the glad hand, and the fact the brakes will not release, they are invariably going to drive off with them attached at some point, and when they lengthen out to their max stretch before the glad hands break away they will no longer be coiled. They end up being about 4 times longer than they need to be, and you probably have a big dent (if not an outright hole) in the back of the sleeper from where the inbound glad hand slammed into the back of the cab. Our newest trucks in the fleet - 2014 Volvo VN Sleepers and Day Cabs all have straight black air lines, and a straight green light cord.

Academy by and large doesn't bother with licensing anything they reissue that doesn't involve Minicraft - which as of late has been diecast "kits" and 1/43 scale stuff. For the most part in 1/24 they just re-run old molds they can obtain/lease on the cheap and fly with them. That's how you wind up with Joe's...or the famous "European Classic Car" Or the BMW, Porsche & Lambo with the company names in Korean... Perhaps I could interest you in a "European Super Car"?
-
Academy just reissued this "kit", which is why it's being reviewed in the first link. Should be plentiful and "affordable" right now.

Well if you figure there are 5 variations of this kit, and we know for sure what the first two are, I imagine those final three (presuming no further Model King involvement) will probably get spread across a good 18-24 months. Moebius has the two new car kits to issue as well, so I don't expect they'd necessarily express issue out all of the truck kits in the first 12 months. Between the Pontiac, the Comet, and 5 variations of this truck tooling they've got kit releases for two years (and that presumes no Model King involvement with the two car kits) without actually having to do any NEW new kits. Perhaps they'll pivot back to another large truck kit since the Automotive side of things is "planned out" for awhile.

SAL Fairy stopped by and dropped off one of the kits that "expired" out of my HLJ warehouse waiting for more important kits that I want to FedEx over in a group.

Ha! Well I texted the picture to a friend, and it was just easier to repurpose that cell phone capture than to drag out the "real" camera after working 12 hours. Although at this point my cell phone's camera is almost better than my last generation full size near-DSLR camera.

Actually the "cab" was a a police package Caprice they wrapped in yellow vinyl to make it a "Taxi". -
Aoshima showed the official test shots of the new body, door panels, and glass/intake areas today on their Facebook page. No more hinting around like they were with the blue car posted earlier. Most of us knew this was really in the works, but this is the first time Aoshima has officially acknowledged the kit formally in public.

1/25 Revell Mustang 5.0 LX Drag Racer
niteowl7710 replied to bad0210's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
If nothing is to be changed, no I will not hold my nose and buy one. As for measuring it against the real one, yes it was done by several individuals in the original '90 LX thread. I see no point in dredging all of that into this thread, as that really would be beating a dead horse, and the information is out there a few pages back. Just search for Mustang LX and look for the locked thread. -
$7.74 is expensive? It's less than 1/4 of what the entire kit costs. Even with the $4.83 to ship it it's only a third of the kit price.

Another LHS closing
niteowl7710 replied to jas1957's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well I lived in Lakewood for three years, and while it was a time I wasn't particularly active in the hobby, I never knew it was even there. Therein lies at least part of the problem, the only "LHS" I knew of was the HTUSA in Strongsville. -
1/25 Revell Mustang 5.0 LX Drag Racer
niteowl7710 replied to bad0210's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yet a few of us just wondered if well known, and acknowledged problems were fixed, or if Revell has it's proverbial head in the sand. You're the one accusing people of being edgy, suffering from seasonal depression, and being high on glue fumes. This is your buddy's car, so you have a vested interest in it, I get that, but who exactly is taking things too seriously here? -

You can put all the cute animated gifs you want up, and that still doesn't answer the question as to whether they fixed the problems, or they live in some alternate universe where the problems don't exist. One garners a great deal of respect from myself and a lot of the other "haters", the other just proves how far Ed has his head stuck up...the sand pile. -
Wheels are nice, but unless Moebius went out and tooled up (or re-tooled) the tires then they're dubiously usable at best. I've never seen a single truck anywhere at anytime - mind you I've seen tens of thousands of them in 15 years of driving that have the "all position" rail/ship container tires Moebius made on the steer axle of a truck. I understand having 10 tires with the same tread was cheaper and all of that, but that has always been the one disappointment I've had with the ProStar & LoneStar, give me 8 of those container tires for the drive axles if you have to - I have seen them used there albeit a nice set of real highway truck tires would have be nicer, and then a nice set of steer tires for the front.
-
I had a 2014 Cascadia when I was doing the Wal*Mart Dedicated account. There are actually very few old trucks left on any of Schneider's dedicated accounts at this point. Just some for the part-time "Flex" guys and the n00bs like Matthew. He'll get his newer white truck in a couple of months once he passes the probationary period.

I never have a problem with people not wanting to buy whatever kit and at whatever price point. But you see plenty of people who will think nothing of dropping near triple digit prices (if not over the $100) mark on a Modelhaus piece, drop triple digits on an original "grail" kit, buy a case of something, or buy a dozen assorted kits at once, etc. Clearly it's not the price that's a problem, it's the subject matter. There's a big difference between "I CANT Afford $70...", and "I wouldn't spend $70 on THAT!". One is a function of finances, the other is a function of personal tastes and preferences. The other contributing factor is "worth", and that again is a function of personal tastes and preferences. Some people don't think a reissued Revell kit is worth $25, because they were selling them for $10 originally. To a builder who has been desperately pacing a hole in the floor for a new pick-up kit - let along a 4x4 diesel one - this kit might be worth even more than $70, just the same as to some people the Moebius Hudson might be worth more than the $28 they charge for it too.

Chevy bow tie logo goes functional
niteowl7710 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So how much are you willing to pay for a 505HP car that thrashed a good many cars that cost twice as much (if not more) at the Nurburgring? Granted 98% of them will probably never see a day of track time in their lives, but it's a formidable car right off the lot. I mean it's faster than a 458 Italia, ZR1, 911 Turbo, LFA, GTR, all while wearing street tires in the RAIN...there are very few cars that have turned a better lap without having to be shod with "DOT" racing tires. Bet it goes even faster if you're not dealing with it slip-sliding all over the last 1/3rd of the track. Car turns a buck-fifty quickly and almost uneventfully. Oh and it has a stereo...but who'd want to listen to that when you can listen to the car. -
No none of Aoshima's Silvias (S13, S14, or S15) have LHD setups. You need to go with Fujimi or Tamiya if you want LHD, and Tamiya specifically if you want the markings to make them U.S. Spec 200SX (S12) and 240SX (S13), the S15 Silvia was not exported to North America.

1/25 Revell '13 Mustang Boss 302

All of the Mustangs from the '06 GT forwards to now have had the wipers molded in, and the engine is 22 parts which is about the same as the prior Gen Mustangs. -
South Hills Model & Toy Show 2014 Pittsburgh PA
niteowl7710 replied to N~8~Ball's topic in Contests and Shows
TriCon is split along usual IPMS rules last time I was there. The club might add any categories it sees fit, the IPMS show in Sharon has a Tunerz class, an Exotics class, a Muscle Car specific class, Competition is split into THREE classes, etc But SVASMCON has always been a more automotive "friendly" IPMS show, to the point a lot of people don't even realize it's an IPMS show to begin with...something to do with being in the middle of Cleveland and Pittsburgh and being the first fall show for us that are willing to make that drive. But I'm pretty sure at a bare minimum they have to offer up the following... AUTOMOTIVE 14. Replica Stock, all (Aftermarket allowed) 15. Pro-street / Street Machines, all (Street legal) 16. Street Rods and Customs, all 17. Curbside & Slammers, all (splits) 18. Commercial, Police, Fire, & Rescue, all 19. Competition, all (splits) 20. Motorcycles, all (Splits) means the category can split if there are enough entries - eg Curbsides & Slammers would split into one category of Curbsides and one category of Slammers. Not sure if they'll run a Box Stock Automotive Class, a Box Stock Catch-All Class, or just allow Box Stock entries within the categories themselves. One of the things you can "nominate" your model for at TriCon is "Best Out of Box". There's also going to be a "50th Anniversary of the Mustang" award this year too. Since I'm only about 10 miles from the venue when I leave work on Saturday mornings, I'll be stopping in this year. -
Roads were a little sketchy this morning going to the show, but the snow was done by lunch time, and the roads were mostly just wet by the time we all piled out of there at 3. Storm definitely did us a favor by going South, but a bunch of people below the Mason-Dixon who weren't planning on much are getting walloped.

Would Model T? I mean it's 102 & 104 years old...doesn't that stuff enter the public domain after awhile much like a song or book?
