  1. This is getting to be an old thread, but I just sprayed some automotivetouchup.com paint on 2 bodies. It seems great, and does not seem too hot. I put it over Duplicolor primer, and kept it light - will apply a 2nd coat when this one gasses out. That said, I sprayed some on the back of an unprimed panel to see what happens - so far, no crazing. I used regular lacquer thinner (being in California, no fancy lacquer thinners are available.) Did it about equal parts thinner and paint and sprayed at 15 psi. The paint was $12 for 2 ounces. Being unthinned, it is a great value - 1 ounce would go long way - 2 ounces will probably do 4-5 bodies!. Honestly I don't think there is necessarily a reason to use this vs. Scale Finishes. I sort of did it for the heck of it. It requires clear coat. Will see how it looks after that.
  2. Aren't there some little l-shaped panels to put in ahead of trapezoid shaped side panels, also I thought the drive shaft slipped into the the mission. If you can zoom in on picture it might help. http://media.fotki.com/1_p,rtqsdwkkkqkqkrdxdffsrgttqwqd,vi/wgqbrtkbkxskwfgrttsxwrqfwtgqb/0/997090/13556979/Side-vi.jpg
  3. Nice decals! I am sure you know this, but I believe that kit has a hemi and not a Boss 429.
  4. What happened to the Chevy wheelstander? Did you finish it? I have this kit too and am thinking of actually building it and getting it off the shelf. Strange how this kit has somewhat crude headers, while the Bounty Hunter Mustang uses the same chassis and engine but has much nicer headers.
  5. The kit engine is a 392, and that engine has the magneto at the rear of the engine. The real car had a 426, which has the magneto or distributor in the front, but I didn't want to go to the trouble of putting a 426 in. The kit has recently come in either Bounty Hunter or Blue Max liveries, and both ran a 426, so the kit isn't truly accurate for either of those cars. The kit also comes as a Hot Rod magazine car, but I believe that is a fictitious car, so any engine would work.
  6. Nice model!
  7. With the nice pix of the Charger posted, I thought i'd show my Mustang. Its the MPC Bounty Hunter build almost box stock. I used Revell rear wheels to more closely replicate the wheels the real car used. Decals are Slixx and paint is HOK Sunrise Pearl. Clear is Testor's One Coat, although it caused some problems on the hood and roof stripes. Therefore, hood stripes are actually Testors Chevy Engine Red. I should have painted the roof and trunk stripes too.
  8. Thanks for the pics!!!
  9. Hi, a few people asked for more pictures, and since today was a sunny day, I was able to take some better pix. I have also included the issue Super Stock Illustrated that has the specific version of the car I modeled on the cover. The car was in a few incidents during the year so its appearance changed some, and it also sometimes had Goodyears and sometimes had M&Hs out back. The only thing I intentionally changed were the injector lines to the scoop and the manifold. This version of the car had sort of a mess of rubber hoses and I cleaned it up a bit. I also wish I had used spark plug wires in a color other than gray, as you just cannot see the gray. The rear tires are from what I think was an MPC Ramchargers FC from the early '70s. I included a pic in case anyone knows for sure. Without further ado, here are some pics.
  10. Thanks everyone for all the comments. I will take some more pictures. I seem to get my best shots outside, and it has been raining in SF almost all every day. I may also fiddle with lighting inside and see if I can get some better pix. Chris
  11. The Kalitta Mustang won't go low enough as the tin over the bugcatcher is in the way. I replaced the tin with thin sheet plastic. Just look and see what is hanging it up and then see if you can solve it.
  12. That is great....!
  13. I grew up in Rome, NY, the next town over from Utica, where Phil was from, and he was my boyhood idol. When he passed away at 69 a few years back, I decided it was time to honor him with a model of the car he won the 1971 NHRA AAFC championship in. The model uses a Revell body over a slightly stretched Johan chassis. It's the Revell engine with Bantam Blast rear wheels (stripped and sprayed with Alclad Brushed Aluminum), MPC hard plastic slicks from the 70s, and a fuel tank made from a gas can in the AMT Boss Nova. Paint is Duplicolor White with Testors Hot Pink, all of which was airbrushed. I designed the decals ,and Chuck Boerner printed them (he also did the "Custom Body" words on the decal.) It took almost 5 years start and stop to get this done, and I am proud to honor my boyhood idol with this build!
  14. Agree about contacting Gene. They sent a few new sets altho they cracked too. They said to use water out of the tap as hot as possible. At least with the extra sets I had somewhat better luck.
  15. Clearview 2000 comes in both blue and red, so you have good choices
  16. Nice! Did you do something to tone down the chrome on the wheels? They look really good.
  17. That is great. Where did you get the front bumper? Did you open up the rear wheel wells a bit? Looks like MPC opened up the front wheels to get the chassis the to fit but left the rear wheel wells stock. Nice build!!
  18. Very nice!! Who made the body and what is the source of the chassis and Chevy engine?
  19. So if the front suspension uses leaf springs, are radius rods needed? I thought the leaf springs located the axle so radius rods were not needed. However, I am not a n authority on suspensions . Nice tie rods, btw.
  20. Here is a link to a video of the rocket truck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96UCh8zNx04 Hammerdown, I think you will take my pinkslip if we race! Chris
  21. This is a bit of model car abuse, but this AMT truck with Revell Magnum wheels has had some pretty good runs, compliments of Estes rockets!
  22. Hi, that is really fantastic. What clear do you use? Also, have to say the wheelstanding wagon is incredible. It really looks like a 1:1 !! Such nice work!
  23. I think the headers should be solve-able. Take a look at the shot of the AMT Hemi Under Glass kit from the underside that is in this link http://modelingmadness.com/review/cars/hiotthug.htm Based on that, you should have enough room. Also, it might make your life easier to have straight frame rails running front to back, instead of the way you have them coming in around the tire, then getting wide again. With straight, narrower rails it'll be much easier to mount each engine to the rails. Lastly, it is hard to tell, but be sure your new frame rails are not too big scale-wise. If they are too big, it will limit the room you have for useful things like headers! This whole thing is quite the cool concept!!!! Chris
