1971 Kenworth K-123
Jim Whalen replied to Piero's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice work! I like the junkyard picture and the first outside picture. -
Hi Guys, Got this completed and took it to a show, placed 2nd and a judge said it was the seat belts that had let it down. I wasn't too happy about the belts myself so I took it apart and replaced them. Took the redone model to a show last weekend and it won its class so the extra effort was worth it! Here are some photos of the completed model, starting with how it was presented at the last show on one of Scale Motorsport's stands with the ends painted to match the pickup: Now that this is out of the way I'm going back to a '40 Ford coupe that I have now painted the body 4 times - arrrggh!

I remember a '57 Chevy pro-mod running on the European circuit a few years ago that the commentators referred to its engine as being a semi-hemi. It was my understanding that the car had a BBC with custom hemi heads on it - I never got a close look up at the engine so I am not sure where the spark plugs were. I guess you could also refer to a flathead with the Ardun hemi head set-up on it as a semi-hemi as well.

Hi, NIce job on the dragster. The paint and decals look well done. If you do another top fuel model (either dragster or funny car) have a go at plumbing the fuel system as well, you'll be amazed at how much more life it'll give the engine. Here's one of mine - its got the later ignition system with dual magnetos but the fuel system is pretty much same as the dragster you've built. It is nice to see people doing drag racing models. I've been watching some of the Australian drag racing on TV this year - there is some pretty good racing going on down there!

1932 Prostreet Pickup

Getting close to being finished now - here are some progress pics. The back of the truck is finished: The engine is completed (the velocity stacks will be attached once the cab is in place - they are just sitting on the cargs just now): Here's a close up of the carbs that were taken from the Willys kit split and placed further apart on a plate so the Detail Master velocity stacks would fit (the assembly has been sprayed Alclad Steel with Alclad Aqua Clear): Should be in the 'under glass' section in the next few days! Cheers, -
Just been to my first club meeting
Jim Whalen replied to kpnuts's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hi, Pleased to hear your first visit to a model club meeting went well. Joining a club really does add an extra element to the hobby. -
That build looks really nice and has stood the test of time incredibly well. What paint did you use? How have you been storing the model? I'm sure plenty of people will be interested as when you think about the amount of time put into a build it'd be nice to think the finished article will be around to admire for a while.

Hi, Nice start to this project, I really like your idea of using the painting knife with sandpaper cut to fit to keep the areas flat when you blend in the chopped top. Will have to remember that one!

Nice build of the Vicky! Which body did you use?

1932 Prostreet Pickup
Jim Whalen replied to Jim Whalen's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Hi, Thanks for your comments everyone - they are definitely appreciated! Light is starting to appear at the end of the tunnel for this project. The cab is now done, all the chassis needs is the wheelie bar to be attached and the last two pieces are being painted today. Here are a few pictures to update people: -
Vote! Revell Share Your Dream

I voted for a few things - some great ideas on there. I have also registered but have not put any ideas up yet. -
Yup, definitely a '70s vibe going there! Nice build, pity the hood fouls on the air intake. I was in Canada during that time period so your model brings back memories of seeing cars like that for me as well.

An interesting mix of stuff there. Thanks for putting the pictures up.

Hi Eric, Welcome to the forum! You live in a nice city - I should know, I lived there for eight years. You'll find a lot of good people on here. If you have a question have a good look around and do a search or two before asking it as there is a very good chance the topic has been covered. This place is certainly a mine of info!

Jim Whalen replied to kilshaw's topic in Model Cars
That is looking really nice Jake - congrats on the awards you have achieved with this model. I'm sure you'll get some more if you enter it at some more shows. -
Hi Rich, Good to see you on here!! I should really join the Car & Motorcycle SIG and get a Mustang done for Telford - will have to check the timetable.

Not sure if I'll be going to Sutton Coldfield yet - it clashes with the European Finals at Santa Pod (drag racing) but as I am planning to go to Santa Pod twice earlier in the season I may make Sutton Coldfield (it also clashes with some tenpin bowling coaching I am due to do, but that may not happen). Sutton is usually a good show so it'd be nice to make it. I assume you're doing your GCSEs, hope they go well!

Hi, Not sure why your last post was so unhelpful - not a way to get people to read your posts. What you've done looks good - I was just wondering why you have shiny wheels. What story are you planning to tell with this model? -
Hello from a wet Lancashire England!
Jim Whalen replied to Crabtree's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Hi, Welcome to the forum Steve. You'll find there is a few of us Brits on here and that the forum has a ton of knowledgeable, helpful people on it. Also, there is a wide range of stuff on here will loads of quality builds being featured. -
Hi Jake, Welcome to the forum! Thought your article in the latest IPMS UK magazine was good - looks like you were too modest to mention that here in your introduction. You'd be surprised how much interest regarding American cars , customs, hot rods etc. there is here in Britain; you just need to look! I'm a member of the IPMS UK Hot Rod and Custom Car SIG and you'll find me at their stand at SMW or on the ASCV Wombourne stand at other shows. The next show I am planning to go to is the Birmingham show on July 27th. I'm working my way through a series of '32 Fords at the moment (there's a WIP in the pickup section at the moment about my '32 Prostreet pickup) so if you have any questions about that kit you got recently I'll gladly help out. Get some of your stuff on here - I'm sure people will be suitably impressed.

Sounds like a good line up of rods you've got to get through there Dave!

Hi, Glad you like the Krazeee Golf - that is quite an old picture of it. I have better camera equipment now so over the next few days I'll get some better pictures of it for you.

Hi Guys, I'm about to cut the windows for this build and would like to put numbers on one of them like you see on the competitor's vehicles. I believe this vehicle may belong in Super Street but would like someone to put me right on this and what I would need to put in the window. Thanks! -
I like the start to your Golf, sorry, Rabbit. Now that I have been back in Britain for such a long time I'm used to thinking of Rabbits as Mk1 Golfs. How's this for a Golf? Here's a funny car version I built a few years ago: Looking forward to seeing more of your build.

They might be a dime a dozen but they make such great hot rods!! There is so much than can be done with them, both in the real world and, thanks to Revell (and the aftermarket of course!), in scale as well. I like where you're going with this build and will watch with interest. Let us know how you get on with the solder, it is something I have never done so any enlightenment will most helpful.
