  1. Hi, I'd like to get Ken's book as well and am keeping an eye out for one at a decent price. It'd be great if Kalmbach did another run, or even better a 2nd edition - I'm sure they'd sell. Scale.ModelMaker (John), AK Interactive do a series of weathering books and magazines that can be applied to cars. I believe they either have some diorama stuff as well or soon will have. Modeljunkyard.com is worth a look as well. Cheers, Jim
  2. Hi, Welcome to the forum - you'll find a helpful bunch on here. Nice to see another Brit doing car models! Cheers, Jim
  3. Hi, This Camaro is coming along great! Looking forward to seeing more. Cheers, Jim
  4. Hi, Cool sedan - the colour combo works well! Cheers, Jim
  5. Hi, A Fiero with some grunt - I like the idea! A well executed build - you should be pleased with your work! Cheers, Jim
  6. Hi, A truly stunning build of the '67 Corvette. I like everything about it - hope you do well at the show! Cheers, Jim
  7. Hi, Really nice model of the Nova - all it needs is some valve stems in the wheels and it'd be hard to tell it was model the pics were of! Cheers, Jim
  8. Hi, I remember building one of these Sciroccos (stock) in early 80's and it was a nice representation of the real thing. My first car was a Mk1 Golf (same as the Rabbit) and it was a great car. VWs last well and there is a healthy car scene for them so lots of inspiration for modellers! Cheers, Jim
  9. Hi, The AMT corvettes are very basic - but the overall proportions of the bodies are very good. I'm currently working on putting an AMT '63 body onto a Revell '67 chassis as all the C2 vettes had the same chassis (its an easy upgrade and gives way more detail). The Revell '67 Corvette kit is nice and there are both convertible and coupe versions available (although it seems easier to find the convertible at the moment). The Model Car Garage does photo-etch sets for Corvettes as well. Cheers, Jim
  10. Your build has come out great Geoff. I can imagine it zipping round the roundabouts and some lanes near Longbridge. Cheers, Jim
  11. "Rolling down the road in my V-8 Ford" I've got one of these to build as well - it was great seeing those videos in the 80's! Hope mine turns out as nicely as yours! Cheers, Jim
  12. Hi, Excellent idea with the roof and it looks really good. I'd go with Tom's suggestion to thin the roof from the inside as well. Like the paintwork you've done - it gives just the right amount of character. Cheers, Jim
  13. Hi, Mat Irvine (famous for K9 in Doctor Who) has done a couple of books on building model cars that you might useful, the second one is more of an update so that'd be the one to get. Dr Cranky - I enjoyed your book, haven't had time to try the ideas in it yet but some materials are on my shopping list for a model show I'm going to this Sunday. Will definitely get your painting book when it comes out. Cheers, Jim
  14. Hi, Haven't been on here for a while - the build is coming along well - as expected! I was surprised that you painted the inside of the body after everything else. I usually do the inside first and then mask the inside so the window areas are uncovered - that way there isn't a build up of paint along the edges when the tape is removed. Thanks for the invite - won't be at the Birmingham model show this year as I'm away so will have to find some other time to pop round. Cheers, Jim
  15. Hi, Looks like the surf shop decals will go nicely with a blue and white paint job that you could carry into the interior as well. A sedan would be popular with surfers - can get more of your friends to the waves! What engine are you going to go with? Cheers, Jim
  16. Hi, Nice start to the Kenworth - those Aussie trucks are a great take on the American designs. What did you think of the quality of the Auslowe cab? Cheers, Jim
  17. Hi, This one is coming along really nicely Geoff. Looking forward to seeing it for real one of these days. Great thread with all the detail - keep it going. Cheers, Jim
  18. Hi, Really nice build of a tricky kit. I like the way you said mostly box stock - looks to me like you've done a lot with this kit! Good idea with the paint and its turned out great. Cheers, Jim
  19. Hi, Very impressive work on the C6 - I've got one of these in the loft, plus a zr1 that I assume is basically the same kit so I'll be watching this thread carefully! You got lots of general tips as well, so keep up the good work. Cheers, Jim
  20. Hi, Nice rendition of the Camaro! It must feel great to have completed a model again - hope it provides the inspiration to enjoy this wonderful hobby and produce some more nice models to share with us! Cheers, Jim
  21. Hi, Great build - these were not easy kits to put together. Thanks for the info on the suppliers as well, I'll have a look at Czech Truck Model too. Am I right in believing they do photo etched grilles for Kenworths? Don't worry about the English - we understood what you were saying and that, after all, is the purpose of language! Cheers, Jim
  22. Hi, You're doing a great job on this one. I'll need to do a similar job with a W900L with an aerocab sleeper I've got but I've been holding off due to the amount fixing and fabricating it'll require. Seeing work like this really helps with the inspiration and gives ideas about techniques as well. Thanks for the thread - keep it up!! Cheers, Jim
  23. Hi, This build is looking good Geoff. I like your idea of using artists' acryclics - are they quite durable or do they need some clear over them? Cheers, Jim
  24. Hi, Thanks for the replies guys. Joe - thanks for the info on the different types of drag week classes. I normally like to see a big supercharger on top of a drag engine but I feel a pro stock look might be something a bit different (and a lot less work!). Cheers, Jim
  25. Hi, I've got a T-5 in my 1:1 street rod that I'll be doing a replica of some day so I'd be interested in one of these. Cheers, JIm
