Saw these at "The Coffin Corner"
Scale-Master replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I find it ironic how these renderings are disliked by some because "they aren't realistic". It's not like any plastic was harmed... I applaud the creativity even though some just don't "do it" for me. Ironically these types of designs are very similar to customized Hot Wheels I have seen due to the mixing of scales within a single subject. -
The interior did benefit from the seat decals. If I do another one of these I’ll fill in the molded seat dimples. At least through the windows and inside the body it looks good. The kit even provides a fiddly little vac-u-form piece for the intake as well as two white metal parts and one PE.

I too really like that IMSA styling. Looking forward to seeing you bring this one alive.

That came out great. You did an excellent job on a not so easy kit. Very sharp, very clean!

New Setting For Topics
Scale-Master replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's a good idea in theory, one of those other boards uses it, but I have not seen any member opt to use it. And I see few here, at least the ones that that often have threads with much of the, ummm... I'll call it "action", NOT using it as they seem to crave the positive feed back. Maybe even revel in the mayhem? It's when percieved negative feed back is posted that these issued arise. Looking forward to seeing if it works though Gregg. So if the thread starter chooses to not use this new feature, can we assume they want other members to discuss his/her work? And we can do so without some of the overblown drama? And no, I am not taking it as open season either if they wish to receive replies. -
Here I have started applying the decals. You can see the gold looks smoother and less grainy now. The roundel for the rear that goes over the rear edge of the scoop was not made to fit over the scoop. So I hand painted the white and the fine black pinstripe outline by hand. (Too bad my “registration” is better than the kit’s decals, that issue didn’t jump out as much to me before…)

Clear coat over decals question.
Scale-Master replied to Prostreet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Be very careful with TS-13 over those decals. Dry coats only, never wet. Or use enamel. The slight yellowing is unlikely to make much if any visible difference over the carbon fiber. Over white, yes, but not so much on darker colors. And keep it to light coats too. -
I can be, but it could also attack the decals. Best bet is to test. Hopefully you have an extra decal or two rom that sheet you can apply to something else and test spray over. As for over ALPS, it depends on what clear was applied over the printed images. Again, testing on something you don't need is the safest approach.

After the body was cleaned up and lightly primed, I shot a tan base coat then built up the gold in very light coats using Tamiya paints. The first couple of passes were done from the can, but the more than half of the paint was applied by airbrush, the finish and metallic came out finer that way. Once the base coats were built up I could see I would not be happy with the flake and texture. I color sanded the body with 1000 grit wet. (It smelled like sanding aluminum metal, must be a lot of actual metal in TS-21.) A few more rounds of airbrushing the gold and color sanding filled in the texture and very light coats proved to be the key to achieving a uniform and smooth finish.

You can't wait for me to finish it? I can't wait for it to let me finish it.

Thanks, as for the McLaren, here you go: http://www.modelcars...en&fromsearch=1 I haven't added any updates despite the amount of work I have been putting into the McLaren because it does not look much different. As soon as I have something substancial to share on it, I will...

Yes, it is 1/43rd, another Marsh Models kit. As for being my normal? I can't say... I build most scales, just on a 1/43 tear right now, but still plugging away on that 1/12 McLaren too.

There was the #4 (also Holman-Moody) car that was a somewhat similar color, more bronze/copper than this one's color. It had a green flash on the nose and a green panel on the right side. This one will also get a pink diamond on the right side. The coloring was for easier identification. I have some of the original IMC kits, but have not built them. Yet...

The tires are resin, the outer rims are machined aluminum, and the centers are cast white metal.

Who likes Hotwheels?
Scale-Master replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Prices vary for the cases. Original or repop from a fews years back bring different prices. If the snap-hinges are still on it... I have never seen a original factory complete one with the cars for sale or otherwise. Mine was just an empty case I had to populate. Best chance is to look for the missing car only. -

Those first two were the same as mine, except the Camaro was orange. Played them to death. But I still have every other one I got since, except the Sizzlers. Only have a couple originals of those. Should have kept them in the round case Romell mentioned. Still have that case with original my Red-Lines! -
Revell Mustang GT500 1/12 Scale, Hawaiian Style
Scale-Master replied to Gregg's topic in WIP: Model Cars
What will make it Hawiian Style? -
The windshield is flat stock also, not vac-u-formed.
-
The interior is resin with a white metal dash. The seats look a little uneven, but they supply decals that hopefully will address that.

You are correct Monty. While the record books score The #2 car as the 1st place winner, I think Ken Miles in the #1 car got rooked out of the win (now recorded as 2nd place) by slowing down allow the iconic photo finish. The other two cars are already done...

How to make your own plastic.
Scale-Master replied to Nick Notarangelo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wonder how long it takes to cure and if it is porous? And what does it smell like after a couple weeks? Anyone gonna try it and let us know? -
This will be the gold Holman-Moody car with the pink flash. Body is resin; the locating groove for the splitter in the hood vent needs to be filled for this version, (the kit builds one of two versions), and the lower rocker panels also needed some filler. Otherwise it is a relatively nice and thin casting.
-
Don't forget the Tulip Panel between the bottom/rear of the rear window and the front edge of the trunk... And the Header Panel in front of the leading edge of the hood, (think 1st generation Camaro).

Thanks guys. The humorous answers about the wheel are better than I had come up with. I was going to go with "Because the real car had it". The GT1 was available as LHD or RHD, as were many street cars derived from these race cars.

No secret here... Collected and played with 'em since they came out in '68 until more "important" things came along. Got back into collecting and customizing them in '99. Now I just customize and don't waste the money on collecting. I'll keep what I have, including all my originals from childhood (un-customized), but no more collecting...
