It came out nice. Clean job. Old super glue can be weak and brittle. For delicate mirrors I often drill a small hole in the mirror post and a matching hole where it attaches to the car. Then glue a pin or piece of wire into the hole in the mirror. Makes a positive mount and it easier to install in a lot of cases. It might still be doable on this one even though it is finished...

Southern California Model Club
Scale-Master replied to Romell R's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
There should be an I.P.M.S. chapter within your range, there is one in Pasadena... There are a lot of chapters... -
Welcome. I usually just use paint. A flat finish will give a little texture (is it a velour headliner?) that looks pretty convincing, and since it is not on an easy to see part of the model it may not be as critical as you might be thinking. I have seen flocking used, but it tends to look like shag to me instead of velour.

Oh yeah! That is nice, and I didn't even notice it was a slot car the first time I looked at it. Must look very cool running around the track. Now to get some orange slot car track...

1964 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442------update 12/19/11
Scale-Master replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That is looking super nice Bill! I really like the engine, and the dash, and the chassis... -
"Outta the box", they came with it. I did paint them. They look like a generic composite of Pontiac and Buick five spoke Rallye type wheels but they have three "tangs" sticking out around the center. Too bad, without those things they be really nice. Still a better option than the toylike HW wheels, and easy to find if I am thinking what you might be pondering...

I was afraid of that... I think in this scale it can be a 70-73... depending on how it's decorated... Except for the grille engraving... (which is clearly not a '72 pattern)... Like anyone can see it... while it is assembeled... The left rear fender lip... is probably the worst part I see... I hope I don't get the thread locked... for pointing out that flaw to everyone... including the builder... Oh look... I didn't even get an additional post counted... and I didn't bump the thread by posting as an edit... to something I could have responded to before... but forgot too... maybe intentionally... Captain out...

The body was defective and needed quite a bit of filler. I didn’t fix it 100%, but it is much better, hopefully they are not all like that… Lime Pearl over Bright Green base, Tamiya paints. Custom decals… It is actually a 1/64 Matchbox.

Thanks guys. I used the instructions from the 1/12 Tamiya kit I built (20!) years ago for reference. According to that, this is the Japanese GP version. (Note Japanese characters above the 3 on the front.)

I would like to apologize.
Scale-Master replied to John Teresi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I find it interesting how so many people who did not see what actually happened yesterday, that John caused and is "apologizing" for, have assumed they know what happened and (ignorantly in my opinion) jumped to his defense. It's nice you all support him and like his work, but it is not about his building or regular posting style. It is about a series of unwarranted rant-like comments he wrote making terrible and false accusations about some board members. He even continued his attack when no response was given by those he was accusing. There are at least two people he has not apologized to for what he wrote on this open forum yesterday, yet he has had plenty of time to come here for support... Even though he brought it on himself. I am not trying to start anything, just being honest. -
Thinning Testors Model Master paint.
Scale-Master replied to GMP440's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To be clear, I am referring to using lacquer thinner in the water clean up variety (aqueous) of acrylics. Of course it also works well with decanted Krylon, Rustoleum, Plasticote... -
Made all the decals. Mixed the Pacific Blue. Detail painted the engine and driver… It is a 92 cent Hot Wheels...

Seat belt / racing harness buckles
Scale-Master replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I did a set from Mylar for the hardware and vinyl for the belts. Medical tape has a bit more character than the vinyl, it was an experiment. I may try it again... -
I would like to apologize.

Why Do We Build Models???
Scale-Master replied to Romell R's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
First of all Rommel, I did not attack your character, please show me what you think I said that made you jump to that conclusion. Otherwise I'd appreciate you not falsely accusing me of anything. I don't know what you mean by "expecting you to lay down" either. Please provide an explanation, or stop insinuating that I am doing anything other than asking a simple question regarding your comment. I'm going to guess you think you know what I meant (But I think you are off base) instead of just reading what I wrote and responding to it. Don't beat around the bush. I think you are trying to equate my posting as I build and including an appropriate thank-you or to answer a legitimate question when I actually have more progress to share, with your self-described bumping only for attention. They are unequivocally not the same. I post in one thread per project, not two for example. Obvoiusly I don't "bump" two threads either, as you have done. I allow my threads to fall off the front page and don't feel any need to bump them "just because". (You can fill in your reason dejour why you need to bump.) I don't respond individually to posts, one at a time, spaced out through the day, to keep my post in play on the front page for as long as possible. When I do post to respond to multiple questions, I include all answers in one post, and let it go. You ask me "So is that how you strive to get attention? I wonder." Sounds like you are beating around the bush with that... You pose that as if to say when I post my projects, like 95% of the other builders here do I might add, it is only to get attention. Are you painting nearly everyone who posts what they are working on with the same brush as you are trying to paint me with? Yet when you post and bump repeatedly it is somehow to be seen in a different light? You even include the word “Bump” in your bumps. You have admitted you bump your threads for attention, now you take another stance? Why are you trying to make it sound like I am only trying to garner attention with my posts of my work, (as if it is a bad thing) yet you post way more than I do and you claim I am the one begging for attention? OK for you to post (currently it seems 10 times a day 1.55 average), but for anyone else to post much less you say they are only doing so for the attention? (My daily average is 0.48) Please explain. Thanks. -
Thinning Testors Model Master paint.
Scale-Master replied to GMP440's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep, good ole Lacquer thinner... Yes for Lacquer and Enamel, but I like it in my Acrylics too! Just do not return the Lacquer mixed with Acrylic back to the bottle, it will glob up and go bad in a day or so. But I like the way it sprays and it dries even quicker. I have no problem pouring Laquer mixed Enamels back into the bottles and them lasting long term. -
Why Do We Build Models???
Scale-Master replied to Romell R's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey Aftasshox, Did I miss something? What is the comment about bumping supposed to mean? I mean we all see you bump your posts all day and night long, it's how you strive get the attention you seem to crave. I get that. No big deal. But why that comment? Just curious. Bump if you have to... -
Wow. That is clean, sharp, correct looking. Great work! (I still wonder why people quote and therefore repeat-post all the pictures from the previous thread?) Especially the first response? Literally has me scratching my head... But I digress, again, beautiful job on that Jag!

Gotta love the 1/43rds...

What shall we build today ?

That was interesting, more advanced than I expected. And the quality of the film was very good too. Thanks for sharing that. -
Revell Master Modeler Stamp
Scale-Master replied to ra7c7er's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have that kit and it came with one of those in it. Chrysler was involved with Revell for the promotion. The copyright date is 1961 and the kit is of a 1962, but the lead time is common for the era... -
We're having a heat wave...
Scale-Master replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gee, that's too bad. It was "hot" and "humid" today here, 80 degree peak with about 65% humidity... light breeze from the ocean. It's tough here in Surf City... -
Tamiya 1/24 scale kit with an old AMT Buick V6 from an Opel GT kit, but car and engine are significantly modified. Car was converted from RHD to Left Hand Drive. Wheels are modified and detailed BMW units. Webers are from two Super 7 kits, intake manifold is scratchbuilt, intake horns were machined from 6061 aluminum. Car is fully plumbed and wired. Paint is a custom mixed “Violent Blue” with TS-45 Pearl white for the nose. Too many things to list, but here is the WIP Thread if you would like to know more: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43139

And now the front wing is done.. Had to repaint the Shell lettering after the decals cracked under the Tamiya clear. C/F is SMS. Goodyears are a pair I made.
