I honestly would have to disagree with you.I have judged. I can honestly say when it comes to some models, people build them so near perfection that they appear perfect by the naked eye. Especially to some that posses more years of wisdom! The idea of judging cars is to find the best one. If by the naked eye, there are two perfect cars, then how do you figure out wich one is the best? You can not! So you bust out the mini light and the magnifying glass to look for any flaws if any! On one car, with the magnifying glass, we found a small glue smudge on one car as well as a not as perfect tape line as we had thought. However on the other one, we found a small almost not noticeable finger print in the paint using the light. With the naked eye none of us saw this! But when my friend busted out the assisted tools, we were able to see these. So these cars that otherwise would have tied, wich you are not supposed to have durring judging, we were able to decide. It is very hard to get a perfect line! Like wise, we do not have total v=control over glue no matter how hard we may try! On the other hand, putting a finger print in a not yet completly dreid paint job is controlable. So we knew wich one we felt as though was the winner according to modeler skills. The other one got honorable mention! So we did award him! We did not use these tools to view detail like PE parts ect. Wich both had a ton of PE as well as a ton of scratch built parts. They were again by the naked eye, equal builds! Now when it comes to my cars, you can see the flaws with the naked eye. So I would laugh at anyone breaking out tools to view mine! However when you are talking about professional show circuit builders, I strongly feel as though any help in determining the best is useful! Thanks. Jody

Alright. Another quick update. I got the grill and shell in and made the dul blower plenum box and got the purple sprayed on the interior. Now just to repaint the white in the interior and it can get installed permanently!I took a couple of shots here with the dual blowers sitting there. Mind you, I will be making angled boxes for the carbes to sit on, then the blowers horizontal on top of those, so the motor in all will still be about another 3/8s of a inch or so. About the middle of the windshield! Thats why when I was asked about the motor height being so low, I new better then to raise it.m I want it bigb and bad, yet also to a point where one could almost see around those blowers! LOL. Hope you enjoy! JOdy

Here is a quick mock up with the suspension parts (main) and the engine mounted. The body is also mounted. Have the bottom of the interior(exterior bottom) done and the interior sprayed white. Now to do the puple ribs. Thanks. Jody

Another quick update. This thing is really making good progress. Even with my frame mishap no thanks to my son, I was able to touch it upmostly satisfactory. Where I did not do so well, wont be seen anyways because its under the bed inbetween the huge balonies! So that is ready to move forward with me finishing the suspension up. Cleared the body the other day. Thought it was completly dry when I did a mock up of it on the frame. Left DNA imprints. Today I picked it up ready to start polishing them out. I was very surprised because I could just barly tell where they were. So I stuck the decals on and waited for a while. Then I cleard over it with two coats. No more fingerprints in it! So the body is done! Here are pics of the body. Tomorrow I hope to mount it on the frame and then move into finishing up the suspension and start the interior! Thanks. Jody

Quick update. I got the body painted in the testors one coat pearl white today. Son managed to some wtrestle himself onto my frame and busted it, so I had to glue it back together. Unfortunately, I can not unglue the rear suspension, so I will have to spray a tad of the pink into my airbrush and see how well I can touch it up. Thankfully they were all clean breaks, all 5 of them!! But I will move forward anyways. I am not trying to make a show winner, so either it looks good when I touch it up, or, it will still look good from a distance!! Thanks. Jody

Smart-Resins replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have never had the pleasure of building a Merc yet or chopping one! However I saw this thread a while ago about chopping a merc top and I archived the site that had it. Here is the link. I am not sure which style this is ect. But it does appear to be a dang good way of doing it! Thanks. Jody http://www.cjhilton.com/models/chop.htm -

Alright, I can not seem to find my old thread. But anyways... Finially I have a update on this! I busted out my new Paasche airbrush today to try since its fathers day. HEHEHE. I sprayed some alclad. Man did I get excited!! Very very nice! So I sprayed the front motor mount and water pump and oil pan on the motor, as well as the front and rear suspension and the rear rims. Yes, the whole rear axle is not there yet. I will make outer axle halves later. I have several pics here. sorry they are a tad darker (yellowish) I dont have a good photo shop and it was dark here(rainy). I do hope you enjoy. Jody
