Built Models
ra7c7er replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can build or buy a nice display case or stack them in cases I have seen people make entire walls of model cars stacked in cases. I am building a diorama for some of them and then others will be displayed. Very very few might make it to my nephew who will promptly destroy them and then the cats will probably get one or two also. -
That's an awesome case. I think a lot of modelers can appreciate what case moders do. I always enjoy hitting up the local computer gaming contests and seeing all the cool mods.

his first model

That's awesome. It is hard to get kids interested in the hobby. I don't think models will ever disappear completely but I do think model companies need to try and do more subjects to bring in younger modelers. My nephew is 6 and has done a couple models but only with me I gave him a model to do at home and he never touched it. The sad part is he can do a snap model almost completely by himself an when I let him touch the paint he is pretty good at it for his age. -
Ugh. Glue problem.

It probably froze in the warehouse. I doubt it was a bad batch. Testors works fine for me I use testors, elmers, and plastruct on my builds. Not the first time I have heard about bad glue coming from Hobbylinc. I worked at a hobby shop and we would hear stories from people about glue and paint that came from online warehouses being bad; frozen, exploded, leaking, etc. Best bet for glue is a local shop or just using elmers. -
site works fine for me in Firefox, Chrome, and IE. Seems to have kits for pretty cheap I might look into buying from him.

It's nice to see someone enjoying that set. When it first came out there was some talk of it being a mistake by Autoworld but I have messed around with it some to and think it is really fun. I don't like that the drag racing cars are slower than there track racing counterparts but I know the reasoning for it. It is hard to see the cars at full speeds in a straight line so they slowed the drag cars down for more visual racing instead of just blue blur and yellow blur.

I don't really know what to call this rant!

You are exactly right. I watch more American LeMans Series races than Nascar and that's sad considering only 6 AMLS races are televised a year. -
Looks really cool to me. I will be watching.

Kyle never had a chance with a good team and when Adam died Kyle never recovered from it he lost what little competitive fire he had. Racing because just a thing to do after that. Kyle seems much more at home in the booth. What happened to Adam was really tragic he hit the wall really hard but it wasn't anything that so many others hadn't survived before. I do believe Adam would have been the next coming of the Petty name. He was a very good racer for his age. -
I don't like the idea either. Every thread in the workbench section is a kit review and you can go on umpteen number of sites to get free reviews.

You should at this to the events calendar. -
Here is a trading card I designed for a local racer and friend of mine. I hoped to make cards for more drivers but with so many having money troubles and the fact that my custom designed cards were more expensive than many of the cheaper options other companies had he was only one of three racers to order cards all season long. I will not be making more for 2011. It is neat though that someone got a hold of all three cards I made got them signed and sold them on ebay for $25 plus shipping. It was kind of neat to know I made something that people out there think is collectible. Two interesting facts about Mike. He is actually the only driver in UMP history to win most improved driver for the same division (the printed version of the card specifies that) and he got a new sponsor days after I made the cards for him and he changed his number to 81.

Simple model? Thanks for the help, everyone!
ra7c7er replied to RS Sport's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Fujimi kits are extremely nice mostly curbside kits. He could probably put it together fairly easily with a little bit of fatherly help. At 10 he could probably do a glue kit with your guidance. My nephew is 6 and has already gotten to the point where he can build a snap kit with minimal help. Just take him to a local hobby shop or let him look around with you online and pick out a kit and work on it together. -

WOW, is all I really can say. -
Older Nascars are my favorite also. Great build.

Cab Not Over.....

Interesting. Must be a scary to drive. Wonder how road legal it is or if it is a trailer frankenqueen. -
I picked up some junk stuff from a local flea market. In it was the El Camino mid engine drag body and the Fiat dragster that comes in the double kit. Other than that it was just some junk bodies and parts.

Donk or Tuner??

I've got to say both. -
Nice find. I get built ups every once in a while but I never know what to do with them besides raid them for parts and then shove them in the parts bin.

Oh, admittedly I didn't read all the postings. Sorry to hear that his models and photography looked incredible. My girlfriend even thought several of them were real life cars.

Nice build. Did the boat and car come in a kit together?

I will definitely try and make it out. Just last month I took some model junk stuff to the local flea market in Belleville, IL, and met a bunch of local modelers who are thinking about starting a local club. -

Looks cool to me, just keep it updated frequently and you will see the visitors roll in. -
they look really cool. As for copyrights and everything it's such a gray area. Many of the decal manufactures that make old school decals don't have any licensing and technically are breaking the law but no one really cares because it is so small time. The images are of model cars you built so again technically you only reproduced the car and as long as you say it's a model kit and don't try to sell them as a real photo of the car you are legally free to do with them as you please. You might get some flak but legally you would be fine.
