Testors Lacquer removal
Tim H replied to Bryan Brogan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have used pine sol cleaner to take off most any type of paint. I have a tub I pour the PineSol in. close the lid let it sit at least over night, but usually a couple days. The paint just rinses off. Tim -

I hope to at least get something done next year. Didn't do squat this year. Too many projects got side lined because of missing parts & pieces. but a couple ideas are flowing like molasses. Tim

73-77 Pontiacs: LeMans/GTO, Grand Am, Can Am
Tim H replied to DoctorLarry's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I am surprised I missed this thread when it came out. I love the colonnade GM A-bodies. Especially the Buick Gran Sport. I had a 75 Century Indy Pace car. Now my youngest is rebuilding a 77 Pontiac Lemans 2dr. Field find. Larry are you still doing the Pontiacs? I think with some tweaking you can use the AMT 69 Olds Cutlass chassis/drive train. For testing purposes I slide one under the Johan 74? Cutlass. Tim -
Well as the inventor of the sleeperball. I will throw my thoughts out there. Some of the themes are great I like the pro-touring, the 6 or less, and the van-ball. I like the truck idea, with anything from a Ford Courier to a Kenworth. Rob, being it is a cross country race on public roads we need to keep with the street legal rule. Tim

Ghost flames are nothing but the same color you are painting on just a shade or two either darker or lighter depending on the look you want. If the base color is candy then use a shade lighter or darker of that candy color. Tim

Anyone have a source for the proper colors for the Pontiac Rally II wheels? I am aware of the right colors are available for the 1:1 scale, Through Ames Performance and Eastwood. ( maybe the same stuff). I don't really need a 16oz can of it. So any other source Tamaya, testors, Etc for the colors. Thanks Tim

better chassis for builds?
Tim H replied to Tim H's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was afraid of that, may mean a change to a custom chassis. And go pro-touring with it. Tim -
I was thinking abut different chassis for models. To make them look better. I have used the AMT 69 Cutlass chassis under a few GM A-bodies with good success. From a 68 Chevy 300 up to the Johan 77 Cutlass. Unfortunately none finished. For Mopars I have used the AMT 69 Roadrunner, GTX, GTX convertible chassis both the stock and pro-street.under other Mopars also with Success. The Lindburg Color-me-gone car to the MPC 71 Roadrunner. Then again I could start with the bare chassis from the Johan Sox and Martian Cuda. Spend 40 hours making it look factory original like my friend Larry Hornsby did. Kudos to Larry for the work, It looks great. For Ford I am using the Monogram 70 Torino chassis under a MPC 71 Mercury Cyclone. I may see if this chassis will work under an old AMT? 67 Galaxie Convertible I want to rebuild. Of course the Monogram 93 Mustang chassis under a MPC 79 Mustang Pace car is a given. Yet, I have still been unable to find a better chassis to go under the Johan 70 Rebel "The Machine". Any thoughts? So these are my findings, Anyone else have other choices they use(d) I would like to here them. Thanks Tim

I am working on a couple of cars for the show. How about adding a factory stock class? A factory stock vehicle would not fare well in the street machine class. and It wouldn't be rusty and dusty either. Tim
-
In the Fairlanes I have built. I did the front window Mod. But since one was a convertible, one a wagon, and a resin 2 door sedan the rear mod wasn't needed. LOL. but I will remember it when I dig out another one to build as the kit is. Hey I can't leave anything alone. Tim
-
Fred, The AMT 1976 Caprice annual kit was the first kit I ever bought. Saved my $.75 allowance to get it. Still have it some where in my stash. Tim

Looks nice Dominik. As normal I haven't done a thing on my build. We do have a little bit before it needs to be done. I have been getting ideas about another entry. I will see if I can accomplish it or not. Then post up the entry. Tim
