Making kit chrome look more realistic
SuperStockAndy replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
And sand the chrome off along with it? -
Ever notice how kit chrome looks a little too...toyish? I've got news for you All I do is take some acrylic black paint, and pretty much soak all the chrome in it. Then once it dries, I wipe the black paint off. Here's the difference: (One on the left is stock chrome, one on the right is after the black wash) It really tones down the chrome and makes it look more realistic. But, unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to get rid of the sprue attachment points

Get rid of clear coat fogging? Kind of hard to see in the picture: I used enamel clear coat. I sanded it with 12,000 grit for a few minutes but that didn't really do much. Thanks

I'm sorry! It's a Harbor Freight double action AB. Model Master enamels, and Model Master lacquers. I'm constantly switching from lacquer to enamel, vice versa. I use a mix of mineral spirits and lacquer thinner for cleaning. -
About to give up airbrushing + rant

Thanks everyone...I guess I just wasn't getting it clean enough -
My airbrush is ALWAYS clogged. And when it DOES shoot paint, it spits it out! Before you start asking obvious questions... Yes, the paint is thin enough. I actually tried thinning it out to water's consistency...still won't even shoot! I always clean the needle, nozzle, and inside of it. I run a bunch of thinner through it to get everything out. I'm running about 33-35 PSI too. So I'm really discouraged right now. I'm considering quitting airbrushing altogether and going back to can. For me, it's just not worth spending 15+ minutes cleaning the airbrush EVERY time.

Wow, I always thought they'd be the same for all V8s. Just can't figure out how they'd be different. Got some research to do Thanks for the chart! -

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
SuperStockAndy replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I had to strip Tamiya lacquer off my Tamiya McLaren M8A, paint was only a few minutes old, yet it still took forever. To cut a long story short I just ended up using my trusted mineral spirits. -

I'm still around, however I'm hauling butt on my Revell contest car so the '55 hasn't seen any attention.
